I need some warm fuzzies and bit of pixie dust from you kind people. My friend and I are on the Jan 11 Wonder. With all the holiday stuff going on I feel panicked that I don't have enough time to get ready. We're doing land/sea and we fly out on January 7.

We decided on this cruise not too long ago so there are some things I need (sandals, etc) that I can't get because I live in Wisconsin and trust me, they aren't selling that in the stores right now. Hopefully I can borrow some things from friends.

Anyway, the big problem is I can't find my marriage certificate. I'm currently going through a divorce. I still have my married name on my i.d. and so it doesn't match my birth certificate so I guess I have to have the marriage certificate. I checked with the county and to get a new copy in time I have to pay about $50. Lovely. Do I really need this to board the ship?

I'm terrified that I'll be wretchedly seasick the whole trip and that it'll be too cold to enjoy much. We decided to try a cruise because I've never done it before and I'm all about trying new things during this stage of my life but now I guess I'm in the wrong frame of mind about this whole thing.

Thanks for reading all this complaining. For some reason it helps just to write it down. I should be thankful, most people have actual problems and not "woe is me, I have to go on a cruise" problems, right?

You don't need your mariage certificate. You do need picture ID though. Most married women's BC doesn't match with the last name on their photo ID. Disney (and more importantly imigration) is used to this. One less thing to worry about.

If you have a car, they will be selling sandles at the outlet mall. Not the best variety at that time of year but a lot better then you can get at home!;)

You live in Wisconsin, home of Land's End. Go to their web site and search for sandals. You probably will find some. They tend to carry summer items year round on their site and this time of year they ship it fast! You might also have luck once you are in Florida. Relax and have a grand time. Oh yes, my name doesn't match my birth cert. and it doesn't matter. Kathy

You'r ein Wisconsin. That means you're north of me. You won't be cold. Bring very light jackets to cut the wind on top deck when under sail and you'll be covered. The rest of the time at this time of year is very nice.

As for sandals, you'll find lots once you get there too, either in the airport itself if you're flying down or just about anywhere when you get to the resort, no worries.

Now about seasick- do you get motion sick on a small boat? Or, in other forms of transportation? Bigger doesn't mean more possibility of it, in fact, the ship motion is usually slight, so, less chance of getting sick at all.

Thanks guys. I don't know what's going on with me. I should be so excited for this trip but I'm just freaking out. I think once the plane takes off I'll be fine.

Thanks for the info on the marriage certificate. That is a huge relief. And thanks for the tip on Land's End! I ordered a pair of sandals, they're not exactly what I want but I figured I'd have them and then if I find something cuter down in Florida I can use the money I saved on the replacement marriage certificate to get that pair too!

I haven't been on a boat in the ocean before but I've been on fishing boats on lakes. Haven't been sick there.

heres my thing on seasick. Make sure that you are on land for a nite before cruising(if you are doing land/sea this is taken care of). On board dont drink achol the first nite or at least until you get thru the gulf. Take a bonnie about 3 hrs prior to departure that way you are covered. When the ship starts rocking a bit spend time out on the decks, the temptation is to go into your room, better to be out where you can see the horizon. If all else fails go to the medical center for the shot. I think you will be fine:)

We are going on the NYE Wonder cruise and this is our schedule: Visit parents for xmas on the 23rd, get a little househunting in on the 27th, drive back on the 28th, fly out on the 30th. Talk about a tight schedule, that reminds me I should bring DH's tuxedo in to be drycleaned (don't panic, he needs it for NYE, you don't normally have a formal night on the wonder!)

I'm not in a panic, though, because I've taken a cruise before and I know that even with very little preparation you have a really really great time. It's just that kind of vacation where it's kind of hard to NOT have a good time... there have to be pretty extraordinary circumstances for that to happen. I did have nightmares all before our first cruise but after a few hours on the ship I realized how ridiculous it was. Cruising is a perfect vacation if you don't have a lot of time to plan out a ton of stuff (and if you do, like many around here, it can just get even better!) Also WDW is so empty that time of year, you won't really need much planning there, you can totally be spontaneous and you shouldn't run into trouble (try that in the middle of the summer or a couple of weeks before and you will be miserable!)

You will have a wonderful time. As far as the weather goes it might be a little cool at castaway cay (in the 60's during the day) but we still had a great time there. It was lovely for being outside and being in the sun, just a little cool for swimming but if you are from wisconsin you might find it to be balmy :) It won't be cold there.

We travel this time of year every year and we always have a wonderful time.

My husband and I are lake boaters here in Iowa. We have never been bothered with seasickness. Since you mentioned you never had problems on your little boat I would say you won't be bothered on the cruise ship. Little boats can rock really bad! I am glad you found some sandals. Enjoy your cruise. We leave in one week for our Princess cruise, am I really looking forword to the warm weather! Right now even 50° would be warm for me! I would even wear shorts! Kathy:cool:

I bet you can find sandals in the beachy (sorry cannot remember the name) store in Downtown Disney. They sell bathing suits, coverups, etc. It is attached to the Sport Mickey Store. It is close to the Toy Barn.

Seasickness sucks! My only word of advice to you on that is to make sure that if you are going to take medication for sea sickness such as Dramamine, Dramamine 2, Bonine, Meclazine or even the patch please make sure you try it out at home before you leave! There is nothing worse (have had personal experience with this) than getting on the ship and ruining your expensive vacation with an allergic reaction because you didnt try it out before you left. The pills all have a risk of side effects and none of them are pleasant especially if you paid so much money and put so much time, energy and thought into it. It's better to ruin a weekend or weeknight with an allergic reaction (and able to go to your own doctor on your own medical plan) than to ruin a thousand plus dollar vacation.

If you drink they caution you against drinking while taking Dramamine but not as badly if you take Bonine or Dramamine 2 less drowsy (which by the way is just common Meclizine if you have any of that for some reason). Also if you are planning on getting the patch from your doctor do some research and make sure you try that at home before you go. The side effects of the patch are enough to warrant research and it suggests that you do not drink while wearing the patch as well!

Dont freak out! You will be just fine! It's very doubtful (although it probably COULD happen) that they will question your name on your b/c . As far as sandals go...hopefully you can get some from home if not do you not have any from last summer? Who cares if they are stylish...at least you would have some. The time of year should be fairly warm especially from your neck of the woods although we have been to Atlantis resort in Nassau in January and it wasnt particularly warm. Pack a sweatshirt or sweater and long pants just in case.
