Hi everyone! My family, The Awesomes, will be going to WDW June 4 - 11, 2016 and we're very excited!

MY STORY:

I'm not sure where to start. Let's see... I last went to WDW in 2014 for the third time in my life and stayed at the All Star Sports (my son's choice). It was my son's first visit. My son has had more than 20 surgeries for a birth defect that you can't even see. (The short of it is: the first surgeon screwed up and other doctors spent 5 years trying to fix it). When he was able to go a year surgery free I took him to WDW to celebrate that as well as me completing my MaEd. I spent the first few years of Dear Son's life as a divorced, single mom so I was excited to be able to take DS on vacation without any help. After I got my MaEd I began substituting in my field right away and then found a full time job as an Intervention Specialist for middle school close to home. I also began seeing the most amazing (dare I say... awesome?) man. I don't understand how I went so long in life without him. He's just perfect for me, for DS, everything. I was content with my life, but he makes life so full of joy now!

MY FAMILY:
Awesome Jr, aka DS (Dear Son) - 9 years old, wonderful kiddo and Mickey Mouse enthusiast
Mr. Awesome, aka DL (Dear Love) - Has turned 30 at least once, nurse and veteran
MS. Awesome, aka Me - Has also turned 30 at least once but fewer times than DL, full time teacher and full time mom

OUR TRIP:
I had been planning another trip before DL entered our lives and then built up the nerve to ask him to join us on the trip. He was ecstatic! I love WDW in general, so I don't really have a preference as to where I stay. Ok, lol, who am I kidding? My WDW bucket list includes the Contemporary but whatever. When I went in 2014 I let DS pick and it made him so happy. This time around I wanted to stay off site because of the issues I had last time, but DL picked a place on site *shrugs* Whatever makes him happy. My main requirement was: must have a kitchen. So he picked the cabins! With a military discount this took us almost into Value resort pricing, so sure, why not? It fits his personality perfectly. DS is also thrilled about the cabins, the bunk beds, and the golf carts.

Last time around (2014), DS and I had nothing but issues from the moment we left our house. I wrote a trip report but never posted it because I feel that there's enough negativity on the internet and didn't want to add to it. Long story short is that everything went wrong. So I talked to someone when we got home and they gave us each 4 park hoppers for a future trip. So for this upcoming trip DS and I already have tickets to the parks.

THE AWESOMES:
DL and I were looking at our Magic Bands online and thinking of names. He immediately declared that his should say "Mr. Awesome!" It didn't fit perfectly, but will say MrAwesome. I knew mine would say MsAwesome. And then we had to decide for DS who wants his own superhero name, but it didn't fit. You know what does fit perfectly, though? AwesomeJr!

I'm in the process of making vector characters for some matching T-shirts. DS and I look great but I just can't get DL right. I'll post the image on here and get your thoughts as well.

Today as I write this in Ohio it is 10 degrees and I live in one of the only school districts that didn't call a snow day (also work in the neighboring town with a snow day pact... so we're working too, haha). I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to the sweltering humidity of WDW in June! I'm always cold, so I'm thinking nice, warm, happy thoughts!

EDIT: Here's the completed image for The Awesomes!

Hello! Can't wait to follow along and hear more. One of my favorite parts of the cabins is the peace and quiet. At a hotel, you're always aware of neighbors above, below, and beside you. Your cabin is your own private escape!

And it looks like we are neighbors! We are living a similar winter in northern WV. I'm a teacher too, Title I reading/math specialist for an elementary school.

Glad things are finally going well for you and your DS. Looking forward as well to the TR. My (next) trip isn't until August so I won't be that far behind you.

I am sure you will love the Fort. While I haven't stayed at the cabins (but in our Travel Trailer) at the Fort, it's still an awesome location. Just watch out for the squirrels. (@tiggerdad has them on patrol I think!)

Glad to hear it's lining up and looking forward to reading about it.

Just let us know if you have any questions.

Hi! Thanks for the responses! At this point, my questions are regarding transportation. We will be renting a car and a golf cart. (I'm so jaded from the sheer amount of time we spent on buses last time... plus people were just too much for me on them.) So any input on renting either of these is appreciated. Right now I'm looking at Tee Time for the golf carts because it seems to be cheaper than WDW. I'm looking at Alamo for a car rental because I coupon and have a couple haha. Any thoughts?

My favorite part of planning is looking at the meals in WDW. DL is a vegetarian and I'm very picky, so I'm having some fun looking into restaurants for us (I mean that entirely sincerely). So far we plan to eat at the following places:

Day 1: Rainforest Cafe (Downtown) for dinner
Day 2: Crystal Palace for breakfast, Be Our Guest for lunch
Day 3:
Day 4: Chef Mickey's for breakfast
Day 5:
Day 6: Tusker House for breakfast, Sci-Fi for dinner (nothing there that *I* will eat, but I'm sure I'll find something along the way!!)
Day 7:
Day 8: (our NASA day... no idea where to eat yet!)
Day 9:

I would like to eat at Beaches and Cream at some point. It reminds me of a restaurant we had here that closed recently. Plus my mouth is already watering over some of the items, like the No Way Jose. Yum!!

We will be in Titusville for this weekend, before Disney. So will scope out and see what kind of restaurants are in the area.

Don't know who your employer is but it may be worth checking if they have a discount also with the vehicle rental companies.

It cracks me up what some of them charge for a rental. If you need to get a rental on your "Car Insurance" (as I have had to do in the past) I can get a nice car rental for $30.00 a day. In fact in october last year someone rear ended my Truck. Damage was minor but they gave me an F-150 (although I didn't need that for the rental) and I paid not a penny more than $30.00/day. That same truck they'd probably charge $75.00/day if you just came in off the street wanting one. (It's crazy in my mind.)

You will love the cabins. On her first trip I took my DW there Origin We were supposed to stay at Wilderness Lodge but to ensure we avoided someone we used to work with we moved to Ft W. her reaction apon seeing the cabin " This is perfect I could almost live here!" Then she saw inside. Next trip was split stay AKL then Cabin after 1 day she wanted to go to cabin.
We use Tee Time for our golf cart but one small bit of advise. Kenny the owner is a super guy but can be a bit forgetful. Kelly his office mgr is on top of what needs to be done if you can deal with her as much as you can. Might want to ask if they have one with rain side enclosures in case of foul weather

Pretty much now Kelly handles all the customer dealings in rentals. Kenny primarily focuses on sales now. Says he misses the rental part because he got to meet a lot of great people but he doesn't have to deal with the organizing part which he said Kelly was better at. She is real nice and efficient and utilizes text messages to give information when possible so you have the information right on your phone.

We updated our dining plans. Mr. Awesome is very easy going about where we eat, so I have free reign lol.
Day 1: Rainforest Cafe for dinner
Day 2: (Magic Kingdom) Crystal Palace, Be Our Guest, Tony's
Day 3: (Pontoon boats, date night) Splitsville
Day 4: (Epcot) Chef Mickey's
Day 5: (Possibly visiting the ocean)
Day 6: (Hollywood, Animal Kingdom)
Day 7: (Possibly Blizzard Beach)
Day 8: (NASA)

Thanks for the input! I guess Mr. Awesome can get a car rental discount, but I already paid (I'm not one to wait until last minute). I went with Alamo for the car and Tee Time for the golf cart. I thought it was a little odd that Kenny said, essentially, "We will text you right before and you'll meet us at some random location off property." I hope that goes all right...

I called Ft. Wilderness to request a renovated cabin and they told me that they are working on the last loop this month (2100) and it is currently closed. As of our vacation time, all cabins will be updated, sweet!

Mr. Awesome and I were also looking to get out one day for a date night. So we called Wilderness Lodge's Cub Club, but I guess it is closed for renovation through June. So Awesome Jr will be spending a few hours at Simba's Cubhouse at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Does anyone have any experience with that?

I can't believe it's only 50 odd days away! I'm so excited for my trip with my favorite guys! :yay: I also learned that one of my co-workers will be in WDW during the same time. Also, my sister and her family will be in Florida during the same week (although they will be in Destin). No wonder WDW is so busy in the summer haha!

Fellow Buckeye here (Ashland). Welcome to the Fort and this forum. GREAT people here with all the answers, ask any question...you will get the answer. It looks like you have a full schedule but I might suggest you leave some time for the Fort. Many, many things to do and see right there. I also see you haven't mentioned Trails End in any of you dining plans.....it is the best kept dining secret at Disney. Buffet style for just about ANY pallet. Also, make some evening time for the Chip & Dale show........It's fun for all. Lots to do right at the Fort. Enjoy, we'll be pulling in following your week. P.S. My DD is a teacher, my SIL is a College prof. My other SIL is a teacher and a coach, my two Grand daughters are teachers..........SO you go Ms. Teacher. Take time to enjoy !

Thanks! Yes, I only listed the places I've made reservations, but Trail's End is definitely on the list. I also purchased groceries yesterday to be delivered from Garden Grocer our day of arrival so we can spend some time in the cabin :) And thanks! I'm an intervention specialist (middle school special ed teacher) and my school has class over the summer, so we're taking this trip during the short time I get off. Meh. Some time off is better than no time off!

The boat from FW to CR leaves 6:45ish. Plenty of time.

Kennedy Space Center

So we discovered that there will be a rocket launch roughly 2PM on our arrival day. OMG I can't imagine a better surprise for Awesome Junior!

Non-trip related... my son can feel lonely at times and I don't blame him. After much searching and deliberating, I decided to get him (us) a dog. Now, I like big dogs. Junior is scared of any dog until he gets to know them, and once he's comfortable their size doesn't matter. So we decided on a Great Dane. Mr. Awesome agrees, although he eventually wants his "own" dog too. Sooo May 10th our future puppy was born. We get to meet her this weekend, but here's what she looks like now! We will get to bring her home in early July.
