Heading to the world early March and planning to spend only one day at Epcot. We will have three non-parks days; days which I think should be spent just lazing around the pool. However, my daughter (age 12 going on 26) needs activity or at least diversity. Any suggestions? We are not "shoppers" and will not have a car so whatever we do must be within walking distance, public transportation/Disney transportation.

Many thanks,

We have done the movies Downtown Disney on a few trips when we have had multiple non-park days.

We will usually do half a day at the pool and then a movie and dinner downtown.

My daughter is 11 and definately a shopper so a stop at the World of Disney store is usually also mixed in.

Whatever you decide have a great trip!

Not knowing where you are staying, here are some ideas:

Downtown Disney - Movies; Disney Quest; World of Disney; just walking around

Fantasia Mini Golf

Strolling the Boardwalk at night (tons of performers)

Resort activities (arcade, volley ball, shuffleboard, hoops, community center, arts & crafts)

Eat at AKL and view the Savanna

We normally only do 2 park days on a 7 day vacation. DS 18 and DS 14 love to do the following.

DTD- go to a movie

Mini golf- there is Fantasia Mini Golf and Winter Summerland, both are great

Boardwalk- watch the entertainment along the water.

Water park- we normally do 1 day here to.

Rent a boat and take a ride. We have done this several times.

We always incorporate non-theme park days. Summer is mostly water parks, but I don't know if theya re open in March. Disney Quest in DTD is a 5 story building full of interactive video games etc., it keeps my son and his friends busy for many hours and I've seen many girls there as well. We also love to go to the movies and DTD has an AMC theater. Each resort has pool activities for the kids but in March I don't know that I would brave the waters. After a day at the pool we like to do movie night also, I either bring DVD's with me from home or get them from community hall and that night for dinner we do a sampling of hors doeuvres, like chips & dip, carrots & celery, chicken tenders, potato skins, mozz. sticks (all delivered from Garden Grocer or We go Shop).

You can rent bicycles or those 4 people bicycle surreys, you can also rent boats and remember that DVC members get discounts for those as wll.

Community halls also have board games, at home we're all too busy and dispersed, it's nice to get together and enjoy family time together, away from the parks. At night at OKW we love to take the boat to DTD and go for Girardeli's Ice Cream.

We enjoy the resort now as much as we do the parks!

Have a wonderful time!

You could also go over to the polynesian, and watch the Wishes fireworks from their beach

water park, rent a bike, rent watercraft, tour the other resorts, mini golf, Epcot-snorkel in the tank, community halls, arcade, Disney quest, movie, Cirque show, shop, fishing at the campground, Horse riding at the Tri circle D ranch at the Fort, dinner show, ......

Don't preteen girls like games? There are games (video and board) at the Community Hall as well as DVDs.

So what to do with DD and the other kids you promised your daughter you would take to WDW? (Inside joke, sorry) In no particular order and some are repeated:

1. The pool. March is still a little early for me but your daughter will love it.

2. Community Hall. Games and movies available for free. DD and I got a DVD and sat in the room to watch it munching on snacks.

3. The AMC theater for a movie. Forget Disneyquest, not worth it in my opinion. Before the movie you can have a quick and inexpensive meal at the Earl of Sandwich.

4. Try tea at the GF. Not as stuffy as you may think.

5. If you are near the Boardwalk stroll around there at night. Grab a not so healthy snack and watch the entertainment. Avoid the carnival games except the water gun one because they are tough to win anything.

6. Resort hop. Have lunch somewhere in a hotel on the monorail loop. Then stroll around the resorts. Again, if you are near the Boardwalk, stop at Beaches and Cream. The hamburgers are the best on property and there is ice cream.

7. Try the arcade. If there is an air hockey table, I always enjoy kicking my DD’s behind. (Maybe while you are waiting for your spot at B & C).

8. Check for activities at the resort. Lots of stuff planned every day.

9. Have fun no matter what you do.

Definately go see Bob Jackson's show at Port Orleans Riverside. It is a very kid friendly night club show in the lounge. Check out his web site (http://www.yehaabob.com/) for his schedule and some video clips to convince yourself it is very kid friendly. You'll have a blast.

rent a golf cart for the day at Ft W and drive around, roast hot dogs at FtW and stay for movie, rent bikes or surrey, rent mice (mouseobats), go to goofy candy co at DTD and make a treat, Disney Quest is WAY up there--we usually go when it opens at 11, stay for a couple hours, then go back to DQ after dinner until closing.

Disfriends are awesome! A week ago I had no plans for a trip and now we have a free hotel room (using Starwood points for all but one day. The first night we will stay at OKW. ), airline tickets (which costs about twice as much as they should have - due to my late planning), free one day GAD tickets and now thanks to all of you we have more fun non-park activities then we possibly do. :goodvibes

That is a great idea. I want to see Alice in Wonderland. Maybe it will be playing. Then I can brag about seeing a "Disney" movie while at Disney.

Not knowing where you are staying, here are some ideas:

Fantasia Mini Golf

Eat at AKL and view the Savanna

I now have both of these on our "to do" list. We always eat at Boma's but have not played mini golf yet - anywhere. We will this trip.

Rent a boat and take a ride. We have done this several times.

We have not rented a boat since Squirrel (two legged daughter) was four. I think it is time for another boat ride. Thanks for the reminder.

At night at OKW we love to take the boat to DTD and go for Girardeli's Ice Cream.

I like both of these ideas, esp if we can rent bikes from OKW area and ride to DTD for Ice Cream. Is that a possibility?

You could also go over to the polynesian, and watch the Wishes fireworks from their beach

This is another great idea which we have never done. I think we will do just that. :)

Cirque show, shop, fishing at the campground, Horse riding at the Tri circle D ranch at the Fort, dinner show, ......

After reading your post yesterday I went to the member site and looked up member perks. Cirque has a 35% discount happening "now". I gave a call and was told the seats had to be ordered 30 days in advance which for us would be YESTERDAY. After a very, very long time on the phone while they worked out the details we managed to buy tickets for a couple of very good seats. Spouse and Squirrel will go to Cirque while I shop or seat around the pool and enjoy my :drinking1 . I chose not to go, all that stimuli makes me dizzzzzzzy....

Don't preteen girls like games? There are games (video and board) at the Community Hall as well as DVDs.

I like this idea, while we will not have access to community hall most days I can bring a couple of board games. Don't you need to be staying at a DVC to use the community halls or can you use them just by being a DVC member?

So what to do with DD and the other kids you promised your daughter you would take to WDW? (Inside joke, sorry) In no particular order and some are repeated:

I think Squirrel needs to be at least age 14 before I bring on the gaggle of girls. They need to be old enough I can 1. send them out on their own and 2. they can sleep on the balcony cause I am sure I do not want them sleeping in MY room and as much as airline and park tickets will cost me, we will probably need to stay in a studio (so I can save my points for me, myself and I to take a later trip and regain my sanity). You will notice I stole the "MY" from you.

The pool will work for us and is our main plan for entertainment. Hey, we are from Michigan (and before that Washington state and many other states...). Any weather above 65 degrees is good swimming weather.

Love Earl-Sandwich, we can do that before spouse and squirrel go to the Cirque.

I think we will save tea until one of our mother/daughter trips. Good idea though and one that I do want to experience.

Since we will be in the Boardwalk area we can take advantage of the entertainment. And since we will be on vacation, I am sure many of the foods we eat will not be healthy - and I don't care...

Definately go see Bob Jackson's show at Port Orleans Riverside. It is a very kid friendly night club show in the lounge.

Another great idea, in fact, I just called our nephew (a local to the area) and he is now planning to join us for the Bob Jackson show. Thanks!

I was thinking fortwildernes for something new to do on my next trip u might have fun there

I checked out activities at Fort Wilderness and I think this would be the perfect place for a carriage ride. Thank you!!

Now I just have to pull Squirrel out of school for two days for the trip. My college will be on spring break but S's school will not. Oh well, this will be educational. :lmao: Up until this year I did not need to worry about Squirrel's school since she attended a private Montessori school where students are taught as an individual or in small groups thus she never missed a lesson. And since the school was getting most of my paycheck they never complained if she missed days for travel. However, when she entered middle school we no longer have the option of either Montessori or private. Now I have to play by the "public school" rules (nothing against public school, they are top-notch in our area, they are just "not Montessori" and I like the Montessori technique). However, the good side to no longer paying tuition is I can now replace my old, old van and drum roll here, take more vacations!

I had not thought of renting a golf cart at Ft. Wilderness. That is a great idea! I am going to put that on my list for when we bring my mother with us. For this trip I think renting bikes at Ft. W. would work well if we do not rent them at OKW.

Thanks!

When you go to Ft.W, first head to the Magic Kingdom (bus, monorail, whatever). Then catch the boat to Ft. W. It's the best way to get there and a lot of fun. If you take the bus to FtW, then it drops you off at a point where you have to transfer to the internal bus. No where as nice...or...

Got to the Wilderness Lodge and hike (I'd say walk, but you are in the woods) over to FtW. Ask at the desk at the Lodge for a map. It is a 15 minute walk and you come out near the coral area.

Thank you, the boat sounds like the way to go. We go on at least one "hiking" vacation a year, generally in the mountains somewhere. I think we would enjoy hiking around FtW even if it is flat land. Plus we can stop for a snack at the lodge. I am beginning to think we are going to need more days. Oh well, not a possibility for this spring.
