Pre-Rant: Event Winners!

Just wanted to pre-rant based on everest winners. Like many, I felt that VMK selected teams with limited room designs out of goodwill. Maybe to help "spread the wins" to non CLs and other known winner types? I really hope this time they pick winners even if they win another contest like the Everest event. So what if someone has 2 Top Ten Pins!

VMK staff are in a real pickel. If they picked the big names some people will complain and say "they always win no fair. I never win" but if they pick a team where the best room features 3 HKDL lanterns to win for best use of color, most would say "not cool. how did this team win? they only have 4 tracks in their room and they didnt even title their shallow end correctly" So either way VMK staff will lose.

There was many debates about the accuracy of the everest judgings that even yavn and staff needed to step in and calm people down. We were all assured the next team event would be better more organized and more accurate judging. I really hope so!!

Hopefully Suzy and yavn will chime in and assure us the judging wont be biased AGAIN :thumbsup2 Awards should be earned, not given out of goodwill.

Just a little edit here, I know some teams were deserving but other teams? I wont get into it but one team won for best use of tracks because they overlapped the tracks. Still shocked that the movie ride team won for theme, sure great theme but what does it have to do with everest? I could go on but let me stop before the hate PM's roll in from people that did win and feel they earned it :woohoo:

little crazy. i remember the everest competition (didn't even go on the rides!). i wanted to join dearly, but i was new and thought it would be better to get more organized and grown my inventory while hoping that they'd hold another event like it.

how many winners did everest have??? because havind 18 winners may solve part of the problem if they only had like 3 last time.

anyways, your rant was kinda much needed because i went on this slide (non-dis, i wouldn't say anything negative about a dis slide) and the whole theme was peter pan. well, the rooms all looked pretty much the same (the jungle on the island), but i dc in the 10th room. anyways, i could easily see them winning because of a great theme idea, but their ride wasn't the best.

So, without any judging being completed, you are already angry about the judging? wow

You state that the VMK staff loses no matter what they do, but then you comment about the "judging being biased again." So, you have already set your mind to this thinking, proving that, yes indeed, VMK staff cant win. They havent even done anything yet and you are already upset.

Then you bash teams who won. amazing. No, I did not see the rides, nor do I know who won as I started VMK right at the ride contest and was clueless. But are you really putting down other player's work because you don't feel it was deserving of a prize??? How about a little sportsmanship.....

Who cares who wins??? It's a contest in a game - remember the fun element? Hey, here's a question: Why dont they judge teams who have done this before and are "in the know" separately from teams filled with first timers? Or how about teams with an overall credit total of 500,000 separately from those with less? Or.....?

Who knows what the judges look for or base their decisions on, but do you really need to tear down the winners of a contest almost a half a year ago? Or tear down the judges before any results have been announced?

How about just building a ride as something challenging and rewarding to do with friends, and not to prove that you are better than someone else? I am just excited that I got to participate! woo hoo! Go team! We built a slide ride and we rock! And so does every other person and team out there that put in the time and effort to create something!

Congratulations!

And if you really need the acknowledgement of the judges to make this experience worthy, at least wait until they have done something before you get mad at them. Doesn't that only seem fair?

If I remember correctly they had one grand prize winner last time, a top winner of each category, and multiple winners in each category. So there wasn't just three winners.
As a winning team of the color category, I think we did use color effectively. For some reason, and not knowing ahead of time that staff would be looking at that, I know I tried to use color effectively in my three rooms on the ride. I also noticed the use of color in my team mates rooms. And, no I don't think that any one room with just three decorative lanterns would have been the 'deciding' factor in the staff's decision. (also can't remember if that was our team or not):)
I certainly didn't think some of our rooms showed as much 'creativity' as some of the others, i.e. in use of ice blocks, crates, designs and such, but I know color was used pretty effectively in ours. And, sometimes creativity can be found in both design as well as use of color!;)

ok, you're right (as you can tell, i'm not that good at debates, lol!). anyways, just occured to me. didn't most of us tell our teams we were in it to have fun but that it would be NICE IF we won? not very nice to go against your word now is it?? anyways, i may have stated this before in another thread, but i'd be happy if any of the dis teams won.

This is my problem, you go and spend 70,000+ on rides and rooms then you end up getting no rewards and the thing was a waste, for even participating and helping your team out and also trying even if you lose.. you need to get a reward for that.

I didn't think the Everest ride HAD to be a depiction of Everest verbatim.
Heck, I still haven't been down to WDW to ride it yet!

But I thought Great Movie Ride was so clever. I had to ride theirs a couple
of times to catch the details again. (And ok, I might be a little biased
because I do have friends on that team, but I stand by my thoughts
about their ride had they been all strangers.)

This year, my vote for the "big prize" goes to Friends are Magical.
I can't be accused of any bias because I know NONE of their team members,
and I was blown away by their ride. (I followed their advice to ride in
tandem with a friend. If you don't ride with a friend, you lose a LOT of
their intended effect.)

Of course, I would want my team to win, but when I see other rides that
impress the heck out of me, I cheer them on, too. :)

Cry me a river before the dam has broken? Is this just fore-shadowing of what is to happen if you don't win?

There will be no ranting out of me this time. I only joined this competition for fun. Building it with my team and chatting while we waited to be judged or just hanging out and letting others ride. That is what is was all about. Team work and friendship.

If my team wins something that is a great bonus. I got a wow out of host_Phinney for my sports room and that is reward enough :) Staff never see the rooms I build so to get that made me very happy :)

Some teams I know have taken this contest to the extreme and forgot it is about virtual game with virtual prizes. I too vote for magical friendships. What an amazing accomplishment in the ride details of mirror images. For one player to do it that is great for a whole team wow that is extrodinary.

The only thing that made me sad about this event was VMK bullies that are also Dis members. You may not agree with what some one has said about your ride or implied but that does not mean you have to hunt them down on VMK and bully them in their own rooms and send team members to do the same thing. I know this has happened to quite a few people and it is just sad. The manipulating and lying I saw made me very disappointed. But that is the really world we live in so why not in VMK.

It is a game and what this competition shows me is the best of people in VMK and the worst of people on VMK.

PS if you have time hop over the Shallow End WDW Pool Hopping the lifeguards are great!!

I think this is a little pre-mature to already be ranting about something that hasn't even happened, personally... but I can see where there is a possibility of problems.

Only time will tell. I hope they do this one right. :)

If only you could have stopped before posting such a negative and mean spirited thread .. :guilty:
I would like to request this thread be deleted, its not helpful in any way and doesn't convey any useful information about vmk or this current slide event whatsoever. :sad2:

As well for me. I rode this with another Diser'. They didn't really tell us to ride on different tracks, but we were on the same and rode it together. They did an awesome job and they really do deserve the Grand Prize, but the staff are the ones that judge. :)

P.S. -- After that ride and talking we became friends :) lol

I saw many amazing rides that deserve to win! I saw monsters, a slide in the shape of a butterfly, a ride where each room was based on a Disney film, one about music...I could go on endlessly, but each was so creative and I had a blast riding them. No sour grapes here - I will be delighted with my green chair. Good luck everyone!

I have not had the chance to ride the Magical Friends ride nor Tampa's Ride Teams either but the ones I have riden are all so very creative and awesome I know the judges will have a hard time chosing the best.

:thumbsup2 Good Luck to everyone and I hope the DIS sweeps the contest. ;)

Good Luck to all the Teams Dis or not these rides are really outstanding.
