If we prepay our rental at Alamo online can we bypass the rental counter? I hope so! That would be very convenient.

What about if we have a coupon attached to the ressie?

Honestly prepaying is a bad idea. If the price changes I think you are out of luck. The best option is to keep the ability to cancel and keep checking rates. YOu will probably end up finding a rate lower than the 10% discount prepay offers. Unless your rental dates are in the very near future.

I think you have to check in online or at a kiosk no matter what, regardless of prepay. Since you are using a coupon you have to at least visit the kiosk. I don't think prepaying checks you in for the rental.

I wouldn't pre-pay until the night before....I know how prices can drop at the last minute.

What I am trying to do is bypass the counter. We've had some long waits before and would like to avoid that.

I think I remember reading if a coupon was used you could not use the kiosk? Your post seems to indicate otherwise?

I am confused...:confused3

Can you use the kiosk with a coupon and avoid a visit to the counter??? If so do you just get your rental agreement printed at the kiosk and then give it to the attendant in the garage booth?

Does Alamo have an preferred club that I could join that would help in this situation?:)

You can use the kiosk with a coupon, you just can't check in online. You don't need to use the counter. We always use a coupon and use the kiosk. Now there are some coupons and contract IDs that won't work at the kiosk and it will direct you to go to the counter.

I don't know if you can prepay on an existing reservation.

From Alamo Website
Pre-Pay cannot be applied to an existing reservation.

When you check in at the kiosk you will get a print out and contract to take to the booth attendant after picking out your car.

YOu can sign up for Quick Silver. I think with it you can go straight to your car, not sure though. It shouldn't be necessary, just use the kiosk. As long as you are using a standard coupon and contract ID you should be fine. Be sure to use SaveTime the day before you leave and enter all of your information ahead of time. It will speed up the kiosk checkin process somewhat.

Thank you very much:goodvibes

Does anyone have any experience with Quick Silver? How does that work??

I used to be a heavy QS user in the late 90's/early 2000's...

Basically, you sign-up and get a member number -- with that number, you are able to make reservations (with your major credit card on file) and bypass the counter (though, you will have to do a quick "check-in" at a dedicated QS kiosk).

As for reservations/rates, your card on file is not billed/pre-authorized until you complete the check-in process at the kiosk -- if you stumble-across a better rate/code, it's no big deal...
