Pre-holiday housework!

With 15 days to go until we fly to the U.S. l'm in the middle of a pre-holiday mega clean & declutter of our house, l always do this before a holiday, my husband thinks l'm nuts. I can't contemplate getting our suitcases packed until l'm happy with the housework, lol. I like coming home to the house all tidy & organised. Also l'll have my Mum aka the house inspector popping by from time to time when we are away to keep an eye on the house, lift mail etc.
Tonight l had my husband pull out the washing machine so l could clean the floor behind it. Don't think even my Mum would check there, but you never know, lol.

Does anyone else do more housework than usual before their holiday?

The house has to be immaculate before we leave for any trip - but not to the extent of moving furniture! But I do make sure everything is clean, tidy, dusted, vacuumed, washed...DH is used to it and doesn't bat an eyelid any more!

I think I'm in the minority as I don't really bother with most things as long as the kitchen and bathroom are clean.

I do, however, empty the fridge/freezer and clean that out so I can leave it unplugged if we are away for over a week as I know someone whose fridge caught fire once. (Although DH says that it would be more of a danger if it caught fire while we are at home!)

I used to leave my house immaculate when I went away but, in recent times, either one (or both) of our older kids are staying behind or my in-laws to look after the younger one if he doesn't come with us so now I don't bother, knowing it will look worse when I get home.

Thanks for your replies. I think l am in ocd mode as basically all my trip planning is done & other than my job l need to keep myself busy. So looking forward to this trip, we haven't been to WDW since 2010.

I have my house cleaned the day before we land. I also need to come home to pristine and tidy. I also get it cleaned the day before we leave so I know it is nice before we go and I can check we haven't forgotten anything easily. I totally get this!

You are not alone. It's my favourite, and most productive, time to do some housework! The house is almost clinically clean!

Oh yes I clean and make sure no washing and ironing. Biggest thing is changing the bedding. I start to crave my duvet when we are away and it feels so good to fall into it when we get back.

My ex-husband swore the queen was coming while we were away. I can't bear coming home to an untidy home, it's bad enough coming home!!

I have the best intentions but never get as much done as I want (hopefully when there is no decorating or building work being done it'll be easier), I hate chores normally but this is the only time I would happily do them!!
