So, I guess it is time for the last post before we board the ship tomorrow morning! It's been a long 24 hours but it is so lovely to finally be on our trip, and we managed to have a lot of fun today when all I had planned was 12 hours of driving.

The original plan was to leave home at about 2AM this morning, drive straight to the Radisson Port Canaveral, and go to sleep. Instead, we had a lovely afternoon at Downtown Disney. But I am getting ahead of myself. Since we don't have a car, we are borrowing my brother's while he rents this week. Something about paying far less as he is over 25 or something? Funny how much money they want to add for 21 year olds! :scared1:

I decided last night as I was not going to get a planned three-four hours of sleep, to just go ahead and leave whenever we were ready. The luggage made it into the rental car for the trip to pick up my brother's car (he drove the rental so we would have a full tank from his place...surprisingly enough the tank lasted most of the way to Orlando!)

Driving was fun in some ways because I got to drive through southeast Alabama, which I lived in myself from the age of 8ish until I was 15. It was nice seeing places I remembered. So driving though the night, traffic was never bad. I was afraid that rush hour in Tallahassee was going to be horrendous but had it not been for signs I would have never realized we passed through! :cool1: We forgot to take pictures until after we were on I-75:

file-16.jpg

We eventually stopped for the gas. Florida and tourist corridors apparently means much higher gas prices :scared1:

file-17.jpg

After gas we got McDonald's breakfast at the gas station/drive through across the street. The birds were a little crazy but very shiny...

file-18.jpg

Oh, before I forgot, at two different points on the drive I found somewhere to stop, park, and take a cat nap. Those are the only reason I made it through the drive and took up maybe 45 minutes total. If you have to drive all yourself, I suggest some naps. Made me much more awake and alert.

Anyway, enough of the driving, it's time to go to Disney World!

file-19.jpg

I'm actually surprised on how much I remember from the last time we drove down, Summer 2009. I didn't expect to remember things like the off-ramp before you enter property and such.

Our first glance of Downtown Disney, our destination for the afternoon:

file-20.jpg

You know you are on Disney property when the manholes get Mickey heads!

file-21.jpg

We mostly wandered around Downtown Disney, doing a little shopping at World of Disney. We were looking for Mickey Ears and of course I had to have the R2-D2 ones considering my large Star Wars nerdiness!

file-23.jpg

Tabatha, my wife, couldn't decide for a bit but settled on headband ears with a small sorcerer's hat. I loved when I saw this is front of us and had to take a picture:

file-24.jpg

After making it all the way to the opposite end, we turned around to head for lunch. I was unsure but the wifey wanted to try Paradiso 37. We both wanted to sit outside and while our spot by the water was lovely it was a bit nippy with the wind. Next time I will take a jacket.

file-25.jpg

Our food was good, the atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely, but the service was just meh. Between waiting forever for both our drink order and our entree order to be taken, watching the second table to come outside after us finish their entrees before our order was close to arriving, and having to track down the waiter to ask for silverware halfway through the meal, it was OK, but the meal itself made up for it. I have to finish my left overs for dinner after I post this!

After we finished eating, we were getting tired and were ready to head to Port Canaveral. One word of warning, have lots of money for tolls and be prepared to stop every five minutes for the first section of the Expressway from Orlando to Port Canaveral. I would have much rather paid the total of like $5 or so all at once instead of stopping 3-4 times.

I was hoping we would make it in time to see the Magic before she set sail but I wasn't certain we would as it was close to 4:50 by the time we got to Cape Canaveral. I knew the sailaway party was at about 4:30 but luckily we didn't miss anything. I loved seeing the ship!

file-27.jpg

We finally made it to the hotel:

file-30.jpg

It was nice to know that sleep was finally near. Luckily we got checked in, got a choice in a remodeled second floor or a non-renovated first floor (went with the second floor of course). We also suprisingly got a shot on the 10AM shuttle. I had been planning on just driving and parking but I suppose I cannot argue with the free shuttle and parking! Right as we were parking the car, we caught the Magic's horn and got really excited for our turn tomorrow! :thumbsup2 So far, I have really not had much to complain about with this hotel, unlike many on the DIS.

Now I have had a few hours sleep and must go eat dinner!

We're on the cruise although not a part of the actual podcast cruisers (booked this one at the last minute to replace our cancelled Panama Canal cruise). It was cold and rainy when we arrived at the port around 1:30ish. Met some DISers and saw many more in the halls with podcast shirts, as well as plenty of podcast door magnets. I suspect it's going to be too chilly to swim at Castaway, although maybe that will motivate me to do some walking on the island. They're working on an elevated walkway over at the parking garage.

Can't wait to read the rest of your adventure!

(Take care of the Wonder...I get on her in 34 days!!!)

.

Enjoying your report! Love your binder and scrapbook pages! Sooooo, now that you're back, looking forward to reading more about your trip!

Looking forward to hearing all about how PCC 2.0 was, the scrapbook and journal are awesome!!!

Thanks everyone! Like everyone else, I am busy with the holidays and we only got home Sunday night, and have my older brother and younger sister over yesterday and today. Maybe tomorrow I can start working on this again!

Enjoying your TR. Please explain what kind of shoes you are wearing??? Thanks!
They are Vibram FiveFingers. Here is a good PDF guide as to what they are/why I wear them.

I have a cool pic of my shoe prints in the sand on Castaway Cay that I will eventually get to!

Sorry that it has been so long since I posted an update to this. Between the trip and Christmas festivities, I have been incredibly busy and haven't even had time to think of updating! Last we left off was the night before the cruise at the Radisson Port Canaveral.

Now for Embarkation/the first day!

The night before the cruise, I took a quick 2AM hop over to Wal-Mart to grab something for breakfast and some drinks to take on the boat. Of course, these drinks got left in the car but at least we had them after the cruise I suppose.

The morning we departed, we had everything gathered up and to the shuttle right on time. It was really nice taking the shuttle so we didn't have to pay for parking. Much cheaper to tip the drivers than to pay for parking.

Our first sight of the Wonder:

file-31.jpg

My wife in front of the very much under construction terminal:

file-33.jpg

Getting into the terminal took a few minutes, mostly because people in front of us just stood their twiddling their thumbs while waiting instead of getting metal out of their pockets for security.

I can't remember if the boarding number was at the beginning of the queue or the top of the escalator, but there was also a medical form inbetween of course.

file-43.jpg

It would have been nice to be an earlier boarding number but it was no big deal once people started moving.

I won't bore you with pictures of the terminal, just pictures of us! :cool1:

file-40.jpg

file-42.jpg

Before long, we were on the gangway with no one in front of us:

file-44.jpg

I didn't take any pictures during lunch. We headed straight back towards Parrot Cay, and oddly enough they were already trying to steer people up to the topside buffet. We politely declined and walked into a virtually empty Parrot Cay. We didn't spend long there though, and I think we were the first to leave. You see, we came prepared for the hot tub!

file-45.jpg

file-46.jpg

file-47.jpg

No pictures of me of course, as it was I had to go dry off to get that picture. It was so nice and empty, the only complaint we had about going to the hot tub first thing was when parents brought their kids through the area. I'm sure DIS parents are well informed enough and literate enough to see the signs, but it really was annoying when parents brought their kids through to dip their hands in the Quiet Cove pool and such. Personally I wish Disney had someone to bounce kids but there weren't that many people around so I guess it's not worth it.

After our fill of the peaceful and empty Quiet Cove area, we got ready to go down to our stateroom. Unfortunately we changed a few minutes to early and had to stand around for about five minutes while they finished vacuuming the hall. Oops!

As soon as we got to the staterooms, I realized we had a problem! The magnets I made to fit our door at home, which unsurprisingly is larger than a stateroom door. So we gave away a few extra magnets that would not fit. Here is the finished product:

file-49.jpg

The magnets were made from a variety of sources, most of them having been the DCL Cruise Magnets thread and other DISigners. Also, when I thought I didn't have enough magnets, I found and got permission from Evad to use some of his pictures from the DCL Pic of the day thread. Thanks to all who contributed to the graphics on our door, even if unwillingly!

We got lovely comments throughout the trip about our door and I loved how the kids liked the magnets. Not a single one disappeared either. The one annoying thing about the door magnets was when people would see me entering and leaving and talk about our door like I wasn't standing there. I much prefer people talk to me, not about me with me standing right there!

We hung out in the room and unpacked some before heading to the lifeboat drill:

file-53.jpg

file-54.jpg

Our assembly leader was funny and made us all put our fingers to our forehead in the Looser symbol in observance of our assembly station. It is nice how even the lifeboat drill doesn't seem bad with a little humor thrown around.

After the lifeboat drill, we headed up for the Sailaway Party. I just barely managed to get this picture with us on the very left of the Ariel Vision.

file-56.jpg

We left the Sailaway Party a little early in anticipation of actually seeing the sailing away from the bow. Unfortunately we had some late arrivals due to storms in the Midwest so we were in port late. The sunset was pretty though:

file-57.jpg

file-58.jpg

We skipped the show and had a nice dinner in Parrot Cay. Alas, we took no pictures of food throughout the trip really. We ended up going to bed fairly early as we were still tired from the trip down and from all the fun. We went to sleep every night before midnight pretty much since during the school year four-five hours of sleep is a good night. Next will be the first Podcast event and Nassau!

Great report!
? what are on your feet in the MIckey man-hole pic in DTD??? :)

Previously, we covered embarkation and the first day.

Now, we will move on to the Podcast Speakers and Nassau for day two of the cruise.

First thing in the morning, we had Charlie Ridgway, a Disney Legend and former publicist that began his extensive time at Disney Working with Walt himself.

file-60.jpg

Then we had Bob Gurr, also a Disney Legend and designer of most of the vehicles around Disneyland and Disney World, including the monorail.

file-61.jpg

They were both informative and fun to listen to! After the speakers, we left for Nassau. Since it was our first cruise, we wanted to at least go over and check out Atlantis and get some Christmas shopping done for family members.

On the way from the ship to the terminal, we took this video to show how windy it was. Be careful of the sound, I left all the wind noise in for illustrative purposes :rotfl:

The cab driver on the way there was a wee bit crazy, but I kind of expected it. We did skip the long line at the toll booth since he just went around the line and forced his way in right before the booth.

Here are some of the pictures we took while at Atlantis:

After spending far to much money getting shirts and such for Christmas Presents, we headed back to the ship. Nassau was an experience, but I don't think we will feel the need to get off the ship again if we go on a Bahamian cruise in the future.

On the way back to the ship, we took a few more pictures which demonstrate the windiness:

Although I could probably continue this post, I am going to leave it here for now. Next time, get ready for some panorama shots of Nassau and a few more pictures of the ship!
