Pre-check with children?

I applied for pre-check earlier this year and I will be flying tomorrow with it for the first time. I'm flying Southwest tomorrow with my 2 kids and I just checked us all in. My understanding is that I can bring my kids with me through the pre-check lane even though their boarding passes are not marked with the pre-check symbol? We are all on different confimation numbers so I had to check in everyone separately. Will we be fine to go through the pre-check lane tomorrow?

Thanks!

Yes, it will be no issue if they are young; and perhaps even if they are not so young; before DS19 got his number, he was twice waved through when flying with us.

FWIW, if you have a combined confirmation number, or if your child has a RR account that links to yours, their BP's will normally have the TSA PRE designation on them.

Our grandkids travel with us often. We have precheck but they don't. They are on our confirmation but they never get precheck on their tickets. They do go through precheck with us. The last time they questioned our 11 year old granddaughter and rolled their eyes when she said she was 11. I offered them her passport to prove her age, but they waved her in. She is 5'6". She just turned 12, so we are sure she will be questioned again. We will get her prechecked paid for next year when she turns 13.

My 12 year old is nearly 5'8", and while we haven't gotten comments about him at security (12 year old boys, no matter how tall, still tend to look and sound less mature than many girls in that age range) his age is why we got NEXUS recently. Gives us precheck as part of it and was cheaper than pre or global entry. Harder to get, and if you don't have a facility in your state it's harder, but for us it was worth it.

Another one here with a tall kid. We get questioned all the time. We have a pre check interview for her on the 24th.

What if you are given a "free" precheck? We have gotten precheck on our boarding pass a few times. If we got that again, would we be able to take our 5 and 1 year old DGS with us? They would be on a different confirmation number.

Of course that would mean, leaving their parents going through the regular line, but that's ok with us. LOL

Supposedly they have cut out, or cut way back, on the "free" pre-checks.

Just curious to how you made out getting the kids through pre-check with all the different conformation numbers?

But what if......anyone gotten a free precheck in the last month or two?

Not recently but I have gotten it on SW in the past and both my kids went through with me while dh got the nudie scan.

Trying to convince DH to get precheck. We've been lucky the last few trips. Perhaps if we don't get it this time, it will tip the scales.

Although, last trip I had free precheck. I had an 1 inch elastic band with a 1/4inch metal clasp at the bottom of my braid. That set off the detector. I had to go thru the whatever scan. Well. it seems I had hot spots all over. Even my hair, which is combed flat against my head. Total pat down, shoes had to go thru xray etc. It was the joy of my day.

On one hand, finally someone who went through a metal detector set to 11!

I went through one several years ago that was first set off by dh's shorts zipper (off he went for pat down) and then my Goody brand barrette. I was about to be sent off, as I reminded them that dh was over there and out little son was with me and couldn't be alone, when the lady behind me reminded me of my barrette. I took it off really quick and sent it through the X-ray and I was fine. Whew.

There has always been a vibe of "yeah right) when I tell that.

Im surprised they sent you through the naked machine vs just a pat down. I can't consistently raise my arm for that machine anyway so it's platform for me (with the agent understanding about my shoulder).

Jojo, if you have time and a facility nearish you, I recommend nexus!

My personal frustration with "free" precheck was that those selected often didn't know the rules were different and ended up holding up the precheck line for those of us who did pay.

Last summer flying out of BOS was our first time with pre-check but I knew what to expect. There was a couple in front of us and the wife started stripping down, shoes, belt, and jacket. They tried to tell her she didn't have to do all that but she apparently didn't hear them. When finished she picked up her pocketbook and they told her put it down on the X-ray belt but she walked to the metal detector with it, they again told her to put the pocket book on the belt. She walked back took something out and placed that on the belt and again started walking to the metal detector with her pocketbook. Again the told her to place the pocketbook on the belt but she continued to walk forward. Finally her husband had enough let out a big sigh and walked back toward her grabbed her pocketbook from her without saying a word and put it on the belt, turned and said, to her "was that so hard to understand?"

In the end it only cost us about 2 extra minutes but if it's a group and enough people don't know the rules you start backing up the pre-check line.

I am surprised you can take children with you. When I was completing the Global Entry process which comes with pre-check, I specifically checked to see if I needed to apply for DS10 and it said that children needed their own. Luckily, our CSRs cover the fee for DH and I so we just needed to pay for DS.

Global Entry is not the same thing as TSA Pre.

Everyone must have their own Global Entry. Kids up you 12 can accompany an adult with precheck. Confirmation numbers are irrelevant. It doesn't matter what the kids boarding pass says.

When my daughter turned 13, she started getting "free" precheck when flying with me. I signed her up for Global Entry anyway, just to guarantee it. I wonder if kids on the same reservation are more likely to get precheck when traveling with a precheck adult.

I can say no...traveled with the granddaughters, 8, 10, 10 and both my husband and I are tsa precheck. Bought all 5 tickets, both SW down and JetBlue home. Both of ours had precheck both ways, but none of the grand girls had it on their tickets either way. They are all FF members on both airlines...., but they all came through with us. Before we signed up for precheck, I always got it, but husband got is sometimes. For $17 per year, it's worth it.
