Oh, kmb, I just saw this! I'll pray for your mom. Keep positive! I saw a quote today that patience isn't just the ability to wait, but to keep a good attitude while waiting. Sounds like your optimism is going to work for you!

A big thank you again, everyone. :grouphug: I'm leaving in a couple of minutes to drive down to see her (came home on Friday night to get sleep) and then it's back to work tomorrow. I'll keep you updated via my calls to her neurosurgeon and his to me! My plan right now is to spend Friday night - Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia.

Sending thoughts and prayers for your mom and your family!
My brother survived two aneurysms and a brain bleed~ it was a long recovery but thankfully he is well and back to work enjoying life.
(((Hugs))) and postive energy to you!!

Update time! And this is an awesome one.

Mom has been off of her ventilator and breathing on her own since the 6th. She had her PEG tube placed on the 8th, the insertion site is clean, dry, and intact. She is also off of all IV medications, but her midline is still in so her nurse has access to push her pain medication and Colace. Staples were removed yesterday. She had a fever of 101.4 last week, culture showed UTI, that's been treated and cleared. They also did a trial run of taking her off of her oxygen (she was getting 2L/min via NC) and her O2 sats have been holding at 96%-99% on room air. They've been getting her OOB > chair every afternoon too.

The best part is that she's now smiling. The minute we walk into her room, we get a big one! She's following commands, though at first, her nurse told me they were mere reflexes, so I said, "let's go, watch this". I stood on the left side of her bed and told her, "Mommy, if you know who I am pick up your left hand, squeeze mine, and then let go." She did. Since then, she's been answering questions via hand squeezes. Her doctor said he's seeing improvements every single day.

This week she'll have a full PT workup and then they will have a conference with her team of neurologists. The goal is to have her in a specialized stroke rehab center (we have two of the best in the country near us -- one is a 10 minute drive, the second is 30 minutes). They're hoping to transport her this week, with next week being the latest.

My mom's a fighter and plowing through her recovery faster than her neurologists thought!

That is a wonderful update, kmb!! Excellent! What great progress.

Continued prayers for mom, kmb.

I never post threads of this manner, but here I am. I'm asking for prayers, good thoughts, and well wishes for my mom.

On 1/13, after returning home from vacation, she was not herself. Her speech was slurred, she couldn't walk straight, and she dropped every single thing she picked up. I called her PCP and he scheduled a stat CT Scan of her brain.

On 1/15, we got the results of that scan. It showed a small cerebral aneurysm (3x3x2) located behind her left eye. At that point, the neurologist wasn't too concerned because of its small size but did schedule an MRI (she instead had an MRA performed in Philadelphia) and an angiogram to map the location of the aneurysm.

On Monday, 1/23, her neurosurgeon at Thomas Jefferson called and said she was a medical emergency and to get to the TJU Neuroscience hospital ASAP. The aneuysm had nearly doubled in size since it was first discovered less than two weeks prior.

She underwent an endovascular clipping procedure and all went well. Then, yesterday afternoon while at work I received 15 phone calls from various family members in less than 5 minutes. My dad said that one minute she was awake, alert, and oriented; in the blink of an eye she started to slur her words and had no idea who she was, etc.

Another stat CT scan revealed a "massive" brain hemorrhage on the right side of her brain. Within 15 minutes, she was in the operating room undergoing a craniotomy. A large portion of her skull was removed and will remain that way for a minimum of 6 months, and they were able to control the bleeding. Mere minutes after being taken back to ICU, she had a stroke and is now dependent on a vent while in a medically induced coma for at least 5 days, perhaps more. Her team of neurosurgeons and neurologists have told us to prepare for the worst.

If you can spare a moment for a prayer or positivity, my entire family would greatly appreciate it.

Prayers for your mom. I'm so sorry you all are going through this.

I am so happy to hear the wonderful news that your mom's recovery is going so well! I will continue to keep her in my prayers. GOD IS GOOD----SO VERY GOOD!
