We cancelled our annual Thanksgiving trip to WDW this year - money was tight but the final decision for me was when DD 24 discovered a lump in her breast. After many tests she was told yesterday that surgery would be necessary to remove the lump. Surgery will be Dec 3rd (one day after her 2 month wedding anniversary). Please keep her in your prayers............

UPDATE - DDs surgery was on 12/3 and I have GOOD NEWS!!! The lump was NON CANCEROUS!! It was a fibroid mass about 3 " in length that was removed - Doctor says this is very common in younger adult women - especially teens and 20 year olds. Thank you all so very much for your prayers!!!

Prayers for your daughter. Hang in there.

My mom was diagnosed end of August with Stage IIa breast cancer. She has had a ton/series of tests since then. She is having her port put in on Monday and chemo starts almost two weeks after that.

:grouphug::grouphug: and You will all be in my prayers.

OP: It is not uncommon for some to have areas that are cystic and benign, lets pray for that. If it is cancer, she is catching it and in control now, and doing ALL she will need to do to be better and thrive!

AnnaS:
I am a breast cancer survivor, post dbl mastectomy (I also had the port, a good thing actually, less taxing on your body and the implant surgery truly was an easy step, so I hope that can rest your mind maybe just a bit! It looked like a little (think nickel-qtr sized raised area, called it my personal door knocker).

It is not an easy road....physically and mentally. 1st Chemo I had was the day before my nieces Communion and I was well enough to go and enjoy her special day. The second chemo treatment is when its gets more difficult (also had to have shots after each one)

Having things to look forward too is PARAMOUNT in my opinion. Think ahead, talk about things Ahead and just PUSH thru the difficult times to move on.
I am 4 years out right now, doing my meds protocol and am quite active with medical follow ups. I was BLESSED to be treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering and continue with them still. There have been some bumps along the way, and LIFE has certainly changed as a result of my treatments and surgeries, but I am living proof that there is HOPE for breast cancer patients...
Again, may Good Things come your way. If you have any q's or need some support, pls feel free to pm me...STAY strong, stay focused AHEAD and May God Bless your families! :grouphug:

Hope everything goes OK. I know it's impossible not to worry, but try to be calm until you hear the results from pathology. I was an OR nurse for several years and most of the lumpectomies (I assume this is her procedure?) we did were benign, often cystic or fibrous material. She's being smart going ahead and taking care of it!
Good luck and I'll keep your DD in my thoughts. Let us know when you hear.:)

Keep your chin up!

My mom is a survivor (she had a single mastectomy + reconstruction). She's been cancer free for 6 years now.

Stay strong for your girl. If you show any sign that you are defeated, she'll feel defeated. Fight strong and with everything you've got. The surgeries are very successful nowadays and if she has a proactive doctor, she's in good hands.

It's really tough on women after the mastectomies. Try to keep the mood light (offer to have a bra-stuffing night - see what looks the "most natural") hopefully you two can have a good laugh.

Many thoughts and prayers. Stay strong and lots of pixiedust: your way.

Save your trip for a survivors trip, you'll have lots to celebrate.

Many prayers and positive thoughts headed your way -- I was diagnosed with a Stage 1 tumor in August and had surgery in September. I'm now halfway through my chemo.

Please know that if you or your daughter have any questions at all you can PM me!!!! I had help and support from a breast cancer survivor when I was first diagnosed, and I know how important it was to me.

If it is breast cancer, make sure your daugther's doctors are going to run an Oncotype DX test if indicated. It is a test that checks the tumor's DNA and gives you a chance of it recurring in the future. I firmly believe those test results and my chemo treatments mean I will have a much, much smaller chance of my cancer coming back.

I highly recommend Dr. Susan Love's book, and there are many wonderful online communities of women who are helping each other through treatment. I'm not sure if it is ok to list links to them here, though.....

Just wanted to offer some hugs and support to you and your daughter. Hope everything goes well and she has a full and complete recovery.

{{{HUGS  }}}My Mom is a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer almost 8 yrs ago. My favorite aunt is currently waiting on the result of a biopsy. So I know how horrible hard the waiting and all is for the family. So I will keep your daughter in my prayers but I will also keep you whole family there too.

Healing prayers heading south from New York to Alabama! This on the heels of the 'experts' telling us there is no need for mammograms until age 50!!!
