Prayers please? Mass found

Hey all.

I was just hoping for those of you who pray etc to keep me in your thoughts. My breasts have been sore a lot lately, so I went to the doctor....they found a mass and are having me get a mammogram.

They mentioned biopsy etc, so I'm nervous.....like really nervous. I'm only 21....

Any words of encouragement and/or support would be greatly appreciated....

Prayers are on their way. You are pretty young, did your Dr tell you there are other reasons why you can feel something? I was about 19 when I found my first lump and it was huge and painful. I panicked because my grandmother, the 3rd family member of mine, was just diagnosed with breast cancer. In the end it turned out to be a cyst that would come and go with my period. I remember back then being in so much pain I had to wear a bra around the clock.

It's very important you follow through because they can't say what it is until the tests are in but the odds are in your favor.

I found a lump when I was about 29 on a fri evening. It turned out the a cyst but it was a horrible waiting period to find out. I hope yours turns out to be only a cyst too.

I hope everything turns out ok. I wanted to tell you that if you are having pain, then chances are good that it isn't cancer. Still best to have it checked out. My mom had breast cancer twice and didn't experience pain with it. She had cysts when she was younger and that was painful. I hope that's a good sign for you.

Lyn, first of all BREATHE! I know it's scary and hard to wait. Keep in mind that 80% of all lumps found are benign. Chances are it is a cyst or something else non-cancerous, especially considering your age. They will be able to tell a great deal from the mammo, and even if they do want a biopsy, that will NOT mean that it's cancer. It is better to err on the side of caution and have it thoroughly checked out.

I just went through the same thing last week. I found a lump, two days later I was in the doctors office, the next day I had a mammo & ultrasound. The tests showed 3 cysts. I would tell you not to worry but you will anyway. The odds are that it's just a cyst. Keep us posted.

I just got back from a blood test, and my mammo and ultrasound is scheduled for Wednesday, so I'll let you all know

I found my first breast lump at age 14. It was a fibroadenoma which is VERY common in young women.

I got my second one at age 23 and then 2 more were found when I was 40. It is scary and they did require biopsy and removal but they are benign.

At your age, I am betting this is what you have.

Ditto, I just had my first fibroadenoma out in August and I'm 25. Easiest surgery I have ever had (though my surgeon would disagree, my mass held on for dear life ha). OP, I find it interesting that your doctors ordered a mammogram. I was told that younger you are, the denser the tissue and the more worthless a mammo is. Either way, best of luck to you.

Take a deep breath! I would also agree with what a PP said...I would tell you not to worry but I know you will. With that being said, I used to work in an OB-Gyn office and I can tell you that if you have pain and tenderness with the lump, it's likely that it's NOT cancerous. Most of the time if you feel a tender, painful lump, it's a fibrous cyst and it's very common in young women, especially those on hormonal birth control.

I will lift prayers up for you tonight and I look forward to your post next week saying that it's just a cyst and nothing more!

I had a lump when I was your age as well and had to have a biopsy done and then have it surgically removed. It was benign thank god and my Doctor also told me that usually if they were painful that was a good sign. I will keep you in my prayers.

My mom is a 7 years survivor and I'm vigilant in checking.

It's okay to be scared right now, but you've got lots of people thinking about you right now, lifting you up to a safe place.

Hopefully this is just "lumpy breasts." A lot of young women develop painful fluid-filled cysts in their breasts. And even a tiny cyst can hurt like the dickens. I had one that was teensy on ultrasound. The doctor couldn't believe that I even felt the lump. But you know your own breasts and you can feel a lump even before your doctor can. I'm proud of you for jumping on this right away. Just remember your age is on your side. It's not impossible to have cancer, but it is HIGHLY unlikely.
