UPDATE: DH passed! (see post 14)

UPDATE: My sister is cancer free.

Wow, where do I start off? Lets just say the past 2 days, my world has been turned upside down. First off, my sister. She might have skin and breast cancer. She did have skin cancer 2 yrs ago, got the spot removed and the cancer cleared up. But recently she was at a DRs appt for a check-up and they found another spot on her shoulder (same place they found the 1st spot 2 yrs ago) and a lump in her breast. :sad2: She is still waiting for all the test results.

And now another HUGE thing to worry. DH might get kicked out of the air force. Because he took a test that involves his job, but about 60% of the questions has to do with another section of the maintenance squadron that he doesnt even work in. So he studied. Took the test, passing score is 65. He got a 62! Well he didnt study very well and he got the worst test anexity he ever had. And its all because he felt like he was being pressured. 2 other NCO's he works with took the same test and they both failed the 1st time as well. And the higher-ups kept telling him, you have to set a good example and pass this test.

So now he's back to studying and he's gonna retake the test in December. And this time he is studying hard core and Im helping him by asking him questions from his books and him giving me the answers. He is studying on his own time 1 hr a day plus 3 hrs of mandatory study during work hours as well. If he does not pass this test this time, he's gonna get kicked out. I've been worrying about this for 2 days now. Sunday he told me that he has to see his commander this Thursday and see what he says about the whole test issue. The 2 other NCO's already saw him and he told them that if they dont pass, their getting kicked out. So which can only mean thats exactly what he is gonna tell DH.

HOWEVER, the whole flight office and supervisiors have great respect for DH. He is one of the best NCO's they have. So hopefully that will help him keep his job if he does fail. All we can do is wait and see what the commander says on Thursday, but I have a strong feeling he's gonna hear the same words the commander told the other 2. And if thats the case, we have to pray that he passes his test. Even if he scores 3 more points then last time and get a 65, which is passing, all is good!

So please pray for my sister and DH. They both need all the prayers they can get.

You got it.. I hope he passes and that your sister's issues are just minor.....and can be taken care of quickly..

I know I am not up on the military, but I would think that the test should be based on what he works on? Why would they test him on something that has nothing to do with his job? Sorry, I am venting a bit, but I would think that if your DH is good at his job and wants to be in the military, but does not test well for whatever reason, but is doing his job, then he deserves to be there.. Geesh.. sorry, I had to let that out.

Think positive thoughts. If your husband is studying, he will pass. He only needed three more points and that was without studying.
Prayers are being sent for your sister that all works out just fine.

You are in my prayers, and while were at it, how about a . Diane

Everyone is wondering the same thing as well. But its what the flight office and commander wants. All NCO's in the maintenance squadron have to take this test. Which is totally unfair because people who work in the section that has to do with this test, are passing it with ease because they work in that section on a daily basis. Put a mechanic who works on equipment and make them test bascially what crew chiefs do (those who work on the planes), its not very easy to make someone pass. It would be like a nurse taking a test that teachers take. Thats what its like. And it doesnt help the fact that they revised the test from last yrs version and made it harder, because they felt the test from last year was to simple. But in this day in age in the military, you have to learn all jobs. So while DH might be a mechanic here, whenever he goes overseas on deployments, they might tell him to grab a gun and be an SP for 4 months or sit behind a desk and do nothing but paper work. I mean they are even having MSgt driving flight line which is also what DH does, but they arent supposed to. Only SSgt and below. Anything over Tech Sergent are all supposed to sit in a office all day doing paper work. So while we all think they only should be tested on their job itself (myself included), its not how it is in the military anymore. Times have changed, what else can I say?

You got it.. I hope he passes and that your sister's issues are just minor.....and can be taken care of quickly..

So much has been thrown in your direction. I will keep you and your entire family in my thoughts and prayers.:grouphug:

I am sending positive thoughts and prayers. It sounds like he is doing lots of studying so I am sure he will pass.

Just an update - My sister got her results back for both skin and breast cancer - its negative! :) So thank God for that!

As for DH - he saw the commander, the commander told him what he wanted from DH. Pernament day shift until he takes the test, 4 hrs of study every day at work - 2 hrs in the morning and 2 hrs in the afternoon. He also wants him to make flash cards of all the questions from his books and memorize them. Theres A LOT of questions. Well over 300. So Im gonna also continue to help him by quizing him. We also learned something very interesting. The test he took has a 100% failure rate. No one on base can pass it. Even the people who work in that field and the person who teaches the course cant even pass it. So they are revising it. Hopefully DH will take the revised test. Commander also told him what areas to really focus on. So he knows something that we dont.

Im still praying everyday, several times a day actually, that DH passes.

It sounds like you are getting help several different ways. :) Just keep that relaxed feeling.

Tomorrow, November 25th is DH test. Please pray for him. I will update after I hear if he passed or not. He has been studying a lot. He has been getting quizzed by me and by other SSgts and higher and has done well. He also has been taking pre-tests and been scoring 90 and better, so thats good. Heres to hoping he does just as good on his test. He was told that if he gets a 95 or better, he gets an extra 3 days off! Im hoping he scores a 95 or better, but I'll be happy if he gets a 65, which is the lowest passing score.

DH passed! Passing score is a 65 and he got an 84! Weird thing happened to. Yesterday the 25th, he went to take his test. He got to question 101. There's 124 questions on the test. All of Dover's (including air force base housing and the base itself) electric went out just as he got to question 101. Not sure what happened. So, since the test is on a computer based program and it sends the results through the internet, he lost all his answers. So he had to be rescheduled to take another test (another version..there are 7 versions of the test he took) for today. So he took it and passed. I told DH yesterday, maybe it was a blessing in disguise. He would have passed it yesterday cuz he told me that he was doing very well. But the reason being maybe a blessing for him is because he had Monday off to prepare for his test. He had yesterday off, because it was his test date. He was supposed to work today, but had it off again, because he had to take the test today. Tomorrow through Sunday he is off. So he got a whole week off of work. Had he finished his test yesterday, he would have worked today. So he IMHO got lucky. Yes he had to retake the test over, but maybe he scored a better score he would have yesterday? He got a full week off of work, which he loved that fact! :rotfl:

I'm just so glad this is over. Now hes gonna be studying for Tech and we're both hoping he gets Tech on the 1st try.
