I'm not one to usually ask for prayers and pixie dust but I have two dear friends involved in a Kidney transplant tomorrow and could use a few prayers. My best friend is donating her kidney to another childhood friend tomorrow morning at OSU medical center.
My childhood friend has had two transplants, both of which her body rejected after a period of time. She has a rare disease that I can't even pronounce and what is even stranger is that her older sister has the same disease. This disease isn't supposed to be hereditary so when her sister found out she needed a transplant my friend decided to be a doner for her sister, as she was still very healthy and the disease hadn't been detected in her yet. So after donating a kidney to her sister a few years later my friend finds out she has the same disease and needs a transplant as well because she now only has one kidney and it is no longer functioning.
After two failed transplants my best friend decided to be tested to see if she could be a doner for our other friend. They were a match and surgery was scheduled. Unfortunately our friend became ill again and needed a blood transfussion, and evidently this changed the make up of her blood (I am assuming the antibodies) enough that they couldn't do the surgery because there was now a risk of failure. This was over a year ago and they have been tested since then and it still wasn't a go for the surgery. This week was the final time they were going to test to see if they could do the surgery and it is now scheduled for tomorrow morning.
I came home today to a message from my best friend that she was on her way to the hospital and I haven't been able to talk to either one of them yet. I am scared to death! While I know they are in a wonderful hospital and that they have done many of these operations I know that I won't sleep much tonight. These are two incredible women, both sheriffs deputies, that I am privledged to call friends. So if you can all say a little prayer tonight or think a good thought for them I would appreciate it.
