Sherry, Octoberbeauty. is one of your members and needs your prayers right now..
Sherry lost her home to a fire in the early hours of Sunday morning..
she lost her little girl also and is in a burn unit herself...
I can post more info if you need..Here is an article covering the story
GREENWOOD Intense heat and dense smoke were driving Steve McLain from his neighbors burning home when he saw the ash-covered legs of 7-year-old Macy Honeycutt.
McLain, a neighbor of Macy and her mother Sherry Honeycutt, scooped up the unconscious girl, who was lying just three or four steps from the back door, and carried her outside.
Despite McLains quick action, Macy died from carbon monoxide poisoning in the early Sunday morning fire that destroyed her Greenwood home, Sebastian County Coroner A. J. Parrish said.
I just remember the heat, McLain said Tuesday. Theres no way the girl could have survived.
Investigators had not determined the cause of the fire Tuesday.
McLain played down his role in getting Macy out of the burning house, saying anyone would have done the same. As soon as he emerged from the house, emergency medical personnel took Macy from him and began resuscitation efforts.
She was pronounced dead a short time later at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith. Sherry Honeycutt, 33, who received severe burns on her head, face and arms, was listed in serious condition Tuesday at Arkansas Childrens Hospital in Little Rock.
Macys twin brother, An- drew, also was in the house at the time of the fire but got out without injury, according to Greenwood police.
McLain said Honeycutts family thanked him for getting Macy out of the burning house even though she didnt survive.
The fact they can have a funeral and closure consoles me because it consoles them, he said.
McLain said he and his wife Debbie were awakened about 4 a. m. Sunday by someone ringing their doorbell. He answered the door to find Honeycutt and Andrew covered in soot.
Honeycutt screamed that their home was on fire and that Macy was still inside. McLain said he immediately ran to the Honeycutt home next door and tried to open the front door, but it was locked. He said he kicked in the door and flames shot out the doorway.
When he ran back to his home to get a flashlight and wet cloth to help him breathe, Honeycutt told him they had gotten out the back door.
McLain ran to the back door and opened it. He said a thick cloud of smoke made the already dark house darker. He crouched low to get under the thickest of the billowing smoke just inside the back door and shined his flashlight around. There was too much smoke and too much heat for him to see anything.
Then he saw a pair of legs just a couple of feet away. She was almost impossible to see because everything was covered with a layer of gray ash.
He picked up Macy and left the house just as first responders rounded the corner of the house. They immediately took Macy and directed McLain out of the way.
McLain said Honeycutt had discovered the fire and tried to get the children out of the house. As she was running to the McLains, though, she discovered Macy was not with her. McLain speculated Honeycutt went back to try to find Macy and was burned.
McLain, a Whirlpool employee who has lived in the west Greenwood neighborhood for 15 years, said Honeycutt and her children moved into the rented house less than a year ago.
UPDATE, (Thursday 10:48 est):
I just wanted to update everyone on how Sherry is doing at this point..
This is a quote from a cousin of hers on the board I share with Sherry..
"Sherry is off the ventilator, which is good news, but they MAY have to put it back in, we dont know yet. She was told about Macy. She will be in the hospital for about 2 more weeks.
She can speak but not very well and not much yet. Her face looks like a bad sunburn, and they will most likely do a graft on her neck burn.
She is wrapped with burn bandages. "
