We live in Seabrook, TX. It's a suburb of Houston out on Galveston Bay. When I walk my dog at night I can see the lights from Bayport. We did not get any high winds (just breezy/gusty) when Harvey came in Friday. Saturday morning we got up early & rode around to see what the water levels were like. Galveston Bay was high & Taylor Lake on the other side of us was coming out of its banks and it wasn't high tide yet. That's when we decided to pack up our 4 cars and get out. We live in a luxury apartment complex. The buildings are all elevated and we park underneath. We had no doubt that our apartment was high and dry. We just didn't want to lose our 4 cars. We drove to my husband's apartment just to the west of Lake Charles, Louisiana in Sulphur. He works over here and has a second story apartment. We parked 3 of our cars on high ground and have hubby's Tahoe with us. Parked up high on a sidewalk. LOL!
One of our nephews was at the complex we live in over in Seabrook when the floods first set in. (Brother-in-law also has an apartment there but was out of town.) Nelhew reported water did get up above the curbs in the complex. At the highest the water was a little over the slabs under the buildings but that was only a short time. Reason nephew was over at his folks' place....nephew's apartment a couple miles away right on Clear Lake got water in it.
Husband's aunt had 6" water in her house in Santa Fe. That's like right by Dickinson you keep seeing pictures and video of.
Several friends had family who had to be rescued by boat.
Our home we own & rent out in Nederland near Beaumont is okay. Water was halfway up the driveway on Saturday. We didn't get that even from Hurricane Ike. No water in our house & it's gone down.
So for now we are in Sulphur, Louisiana trying to wait this thing out. Feeling very blessed that we are all safe and mostly spared thus far. Still have to watch the rain & flooding here but at least we are second story. Have plenty of food & supplies just in case.
My boys were supposed to start fall semester at San Jacinto College this week. We have no idea when they'll be starting now. Hubby's job site is shut down through Wednesday at least. I think a couple of the days have been given as work-from-home days. Not sure how much PTO he'll have to burn (or how much he has). We'll figure it out.
Mostly we just want this thing to be over. I've lived along the Gulf coast my whole life. I've done many hurricanes. I've never seen anything like this. And it's still not over. Still another day or 2 to go. We're all so sick of seeing rain and water. The worrying about everyone, family & friends, worry about our house, finances, terrified the flood waters are coming after all, etc.....it all really wears you down. Earlier today I was in such a foul mood I wanted to just go outside and give Mother Nature the finger. I'm so over this crap. We all are.
But still. I can't complain. So many others are in such worse conditions and suffering significant stress & loss. I try to keep that in mind and keep an ever-grateful perspective. It's only a matter of time and this too shall pass. The messes eventually clean up. Life does return to normal. Just have to be strong and tow the line until we can get from here to there.
Continuing to thank God for His grace and pray for those in need of His comforting embrace.

So our house in Nederland, Texas that we currently have rented & had planned to finally move back into in November flooded yesterday. Our tenant is a single mom who is alone with her 2 little kids. We drove in, walked through the flood water, and carried her kids out. Brought the little family to where we are. Everyone safe. Just feeling very down-trodden. I'm very tired of all this mess. We were living in Louisiana & had damage to our home from Katrina in 05. Had only been in our brand new home in Nederland 3 months when Ike hit in 08. Roughly $20k damage. Rebuild. Now this. Downstairs will have to be gutted. Well, I'm gutted. 3 times in 12 years. Over. It.

It's far from over. There's a chemical plant north of Houston that's foundering. They are afraid it's going to explode soon. 2 large reservoirs are at levels that the Army Corps are afraid will fail. Water is being released. Houses that didn't flood already now are. Expected to have flooding from the release for days more, possibly a week. Rain still is pouring over the Beaumont/Port Arthur area. Homes are still flooding. I read all of Port Arthur has gone under overnight. They keep saying the storm is going to move on out. But, NOT ONE forecast has been correct. NOT ONE. They said it would be just a tropical storm. Go in down by Brownsville. They've forecast it to be over land and moved on in I don't even know how many places & time frames. They underestimated the rain by more than half. And it STILL is NOT fully on land and breaking apart. STILL.It looks like Galveston got a lot of rain on Tuesday and some of the streets were flooded. But it appears that most of the flooding in Galveston has subsided. I believe the port of Galveston will be open soon and I think Hobby will be open on Wednesday. As far as Houston goes, I believe the rain has stopped and the flood waters will subside (hopefully) in the next few days. Other than the flooding, I don't think there was a lot of damage from the storm, considering it was a category 4 hurricane.

I don't think the bad stuff is over either. However, the wind damage is less than what it could have been with a category 4 hurricane. I think they received more rain than normal and the flood damage appears to be widespread and very bad. Fortunately, for DCL cruisers, Galveston appears to have weathered the storm. It's far from over. There's a chemical plant north of Houston that's foundering.
