St. John on own your own

My aunt used to have a condo on st Thomas. We would regularly ferry over. There are 2 ferries. One took about 20 minutes and the other 45. The shorter more frequently running one runs from red hook. The other from crown Bay. You can also ferry a car but I’m assuming you won’t have one.

I was reading up on the DCL excursions from St. Thomas, and one for St. John stated that the ferry ride was 45 minutes - then recommended that guests susceptible to sea sickness take precautions!

We have done this. The ferry ride is 45 minutes for DCL. So 90 minutes travel time. We hiked some national forest trails right there where we got off the ferry. Lovely, but time was a bit tight. The ride can be rough, we did not have issues. But take note.

We did it once, on a non-DCL cruise. Most DCL stops at St Thomas, which will be the Easterns on the Treasure, really do not give you enough time in port to make the trip over worthwhile (you'll only have about 90 minutes to 2 hours on to enjoy St John). They usually leave St Thomas somewhat early because they have to make it to CC with only one sea day in between. Sometimes the itinerary is flipped and they do St Thomas first and Tortola second and those spend more time in St Thomas. Those may provide enough time. As mentioned, the ferry ride tends to be fairly rough.
