Prayers and Good Thoughts Please

I am 38 years old and I am going in for my first surgery tomorrow morning. 2 Fridays ago I slid down a hill (on my way to meet some fellow dis'ers, oh the irony) and my ankle came down the hill slower.

I did good in breaking my ankle....I broke all three of the bones connecting the ankle to the leg....I did not however dislocate it or break the tibia or fibia farther up my leg. Which explains the wait for surgery as it wasn't as bad a break as it could be.

I am scared.....and already tired of not being able to bear weight on the ankle.

Prayers for not only me but also for the surgical team please.

Surgery is at 7:30 AM MST....with me leaving my house between 4 and 4:30 to get to the hospital on time.

I'll be thinking of you. Please do not be afraid. I had my first surgery 1 yr ago, on my knee, I too was a bit afraid. You will be prepped with an I.V. The Doc will come in and talk to you, you'll now when they are going to put you to sleep, it was very relaxing to me. Next thing you know you will be waking up in recovery. With me I knew my knee was better, just could feel the difference. You will do fine.

I think it only natural to be anxious, but have faith you're in good hands.
Know many positive thoughts and prayers will be with you (and your medical team) for a successful surgery and complete recovery.

Overall we are very well, cold, but good. Snow was fun to visit and now we have some. The girls have had two snow days already. They like school and are making friends. We got a house 3 weeks ago come Sat and are getting out of boxes. I am not a fan of unpacking I have found.

Do not worry about tomorrow, all will go very well.

Been there, done that. Didn't break it sledding but you've just described my exact ankle break that I did about 10 yrs ago. Although, we can add dislocation to mine as it was darn near a 90 degree angle. OMG its not supposed to do that.

In my case the original Xrays showed 3 breaks. Surgery discovered break number 4 Good thing my surgeon thought ahead and brought extra screws. So it was a total of almost 10 weeks in a cast and about the same amount of time in PT.

I really hope your surgery goes well in the morning. please take the smilies in good humor, because believe you me, I KNOW YOUR PAIN.

And BTW 10 yrs later and I still have all the hardware from the original surgery. It was supposed to come out but once it was healed and time to consider that I really wasn't having any pain with it at all, just occasional discomfort so they all stayed. I have about 10 screws and a plate down there keeping it all together. The plate was supposed to stay and the screws not, but they're all still there.

Good to know about the extra screws (they only said six but I can't imagine to not have more needed)

I didn't break it sledding....I literally slid down a hill going to a restaurant....that grass was slick!!

Hi All!! I am home

It was a comedy of errors when it came to putting iv's in my veins. I have extremely hard to find veins that than collapse willy nilly. Got one going before the OR that took 2 RN's and a bunch of warm blankets. When we got to the OR it somehow worked itself out/wrong...it than took at least 4 people a half an hour to find another one...and they found it by sticking it in blndly I teased them that whoever found it had to yell "Eureka" and they did....at 8:03 exactly a half hour after they started. It looks like I got bite by a vampire on my left hand....wonder what my foot looks like.

The nurse wanted me to pee for her....I told her about my hesitation with bathrooms....than she really wanted my weight....that was funny also as the chair they transferred me into was obviously not calibrated....than they weren't thinking for a minute and wanted me to stand on a wiggly scale on one foot...that wasn't happening...no way, no how.



All in all I survived my first surgery and don't want anymore!!
