Prayer Request/I Hope This Cruise Comes Through!

Such a beautiful prayer h5ty. It is very apparent that prayers go up often from you. Blessings 2 U also.
Barb, I pray that you are able to go on this cruise, and that Christopher will rally through this crisis. He is one of Gods angels, and He has a Master plan for Christopher, beyond what we may know here on earth. You see, his presence alone may have brought more people to God than you would ever know. Please keep us informed of his progress. If there was anything I could do to make this happen for you, I would. Prayer is a strong force, we must always remember that.

You can add my prayer to the list of the wonderful people here at the DIS. I pray that this family will be given the stength and peace that they will need in the upcoming months. This woman sounds like a truly brave and wonderful person. My prayers to her and her family.

For your friend and her family. Please keep us updated on how it is going.

Prayers from Pennsylvania...hopefully Christopher will stabalize so that this family can have a much deserved vacation....God Bless Them. Makes you realize how every moment is precious with your family and how stupid small things that seem to drive us crazy are truly trivial. GOD BLESS CHRISTOPHER AND HIS FAMILY.

The prayer chain grows longer and stronger!

"With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible" Matthew 19:26

I will claim this promise and also pray for wisdom to be given to his doctors and strength, comfort and peace to Christopher and his family.

So many times we ask why does bad things happen to good people and so many times we can not come to a full understanding - but we do know that faith never fails us and most of all prayers are answered - not in our time, but God's time.
I asked for special prayers for this family on our Conch Spirit Prayer Group (CSPG) which we have a devotion every day at 7am which touches, not quite yet, around the world - please keep us posted how this family is doing and give them as our extended family -hugsssssssss and prayers from Cape Canaveral.
In His Holy name
Always
Shirley

We prayed for Christopher and his family at Mass yesterday...may God be with him and his family in this time of sadness...

Dear Lord,
Please watch over Christopher and give him just a little more time here with us on Earth. Let his family enjoy their time...and then let them have some family time in his last few days here. Then, if you see fit, take him up with you to be forever in heaven with all the angels. There give him a mansion full of memories and a cruise ship to take him when he wants to see his family. Help his family get through the hard time and help them to live their lives, because that is what Christopher would wish...We ask this in your name. Amen.

Adding my prayers for Christopher and his family.

I just finished reading another thread for Nathan and his family who are cruising in Sept. Two situations that are sad yet, these families sound so very special.

Prayers also for Jan's patient.

It is amazing that so many people on this board step forward and offer support through prayers and words of comfort. Many people have shared their experiences.

May God send them many blessings.

Many THANK YOU'S to all my new friends on the disboard! I am Christopher's Mom and I am SO glad to tell you that your PRAYERS HAVE WORKED! Chris is back to his sweet little adorable self! Yes, he is still blind, and yes his mind and body are still deteriorating - BUT, 2 weeks ago I thought we were in a down hill spiral. He did not eat for 5 days, would not talk, did not know us - and THEN...THE PRAYERS & PIXIE DUST kicked in! I can't tell you how glad I was to hear him say "Mom, I have an idea. I want to buy Disney Land - I've been saving my money!" And, he is now eating wonderfully again, happy, & cute & cuddly.

I have learned something over this past 2 weeks - I can handle the physical deterioration, but I was SOOOOOOO happy to have him back mentally for a while longer. That is a horrible, helpless feeling. I can't tell you what a blessing this child has been for us. He was perfectly normal until he was 7, and he started loosing his eyesight. That was 10 years ago. We have been fighting this disease in every way we possibly can.

If you get a moment please check out the Batten Disease Support & Research Association site at www.bdsra.org If you click on "Faces of Battens" you will find Chris McDonough. If you click on his picture you can read a poem that I wrote for him a few years ago.

I am an eternal optimist - I will not give up hope. I am praying that there will be a clinical treatment to offer him any day. At this point, research is our only hope. But, the research is starting to speed up - so with a little more prayer & pixie dust there is still hope.

I wanted to mention that Christopher (and his mom, dad & brother) did a Cruise on the Wonder 3 years ago. I am so glad we took him when we did.

Thanks again for all your support & hope to see some of you on the Labor Day weekend cruise!
We only go around this Merry-Go-Round once - Enjoy every precious moment!

Barb - what a wonderful poem you wrote for your son. I'm blinking back "Mother tears" here at work. I am thrilled that Chris has "come back to you" and I pray that your Labour Day cruise is a fantastic one. Jo

My husb. & I will CONTINUE to keep Christopher & your entire family in our prayers. What special memories you must have of that cruise 3 yrs. ago. Praise GOD!!

GOD Bless you all. I'm off to look at your website (if I can see through my tears)

Just a bit of hope here. Before I retired I attended genetics conferences of several organizations. Batten Disease, though a long way from a cure, is an example of a disease your tax dollars and donations has helped to begin to understand. It is often cited as a disease that is a good candidate disease to find a treatment or cure. Hint, hint: donate

Carla

Carla, you are so right!
I have worked with Barb since before Christopher was diagnosed, and back when he first showed symptoms, there was no way to tell if a person carried the gene. Two carriers could unknowingly marry and produce afflicted children. But now the gene can be tested for. Granted, it's not a cure, but it represents such a big step forward.
Barb is very active in the fight against Battens and such a devoted mom to Chris. He's come this far doing as well as he has because she is tireless in her efforts to give him the longest and best quality of life. It's a frightening disease, but the progress is continuing...you never know when the day will come that brings another breakthrough.
