The buy from Prairie restorations came out to evaluate our site. He agreed that it was a perfet choice for our setting! He also thinks it truely was an oak savanna, so he will be looking at returning it to all the natural things that would have been here a hundred and fify or more years ago. It was pasture land before, so there might actually be some good native seeds in the ground. He is going to send us an estimate and then we'll have to decide how much they are doing and how much we will do. He reccommeded a general burn to get rid of the nasty woody plants that have invaded the edges of the oak areas. These are mostly prickle ash and buckthorn. He also reccommended that we demolish the double line of spruce that are planted oh so neatly in rows. 
So glad he said that, because I hate things planted in rows! I'm not too fond of those spruce trees either. He said they would probably not burn until June and would spray after that. Then they would seed in the fall. Next year we will have to mow it a couple of times and probably once the spring after that too. He plans to seed low growing prairie and lots of wildflowers!
