Anyone know anything about the town Prairie Grove, AR? My DH may have a job interview with a company there. We are in Nebraska now, so it is about 9 hours south of us...we would like some warmer weather! :goodvibes Any info you could give about schools, housing, and just how living in Arkansas is would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks! :goodvibes

I've lived here all my life ...it is a great little town ...but it is that a little town ..how far do you want to be away from stores like wal mart and stuff?
the school is good I think but if sports is something you are interested in then the only one they have is football that means anything to the school...they have the other sports but cheer ..all cheer is is the girls cheer at games and that is it..they don't compete as the principal won't let them ....my kids go to a different school (we really live in the next town) however I grew up in PG (that is what everyone calls it) that is where I grad. from ...

The town it self is great ..if you don't mind me asking where does he have the interview..what company? I'm trying to think of a company...if you have any questions please ask me....

Thanks for the quick reply! Right now, I live in a town of 1000 people and drive 15 miles to a Wal-mart, ect. My DS9 is a baseball kid, so hoping that there is summer ball! He applied for a job with the prairie grove telephone company and they called yesterday. Do you know anything about the company? Is there a high turnover? So scary looking at places that we've never been! Thank you so much for replying and helping me!

It must be a pretty small town. I have been all over AR and have never heard of it.

Good luck to your hubby:goodvibes

WOW yes you have to fight tooth and nail to get into that company...they only have an opening when someone dies LOL...I don't know what he does so i can't tell you anything about that...they do have baseball and summer ball (my son was in it when he was younger) you will have about a 20 min drive to wal mart IF you live in PG...But you can also live in Farmington and still only have about a 10 to 15 drive to work and only about 10 min to walmart I think you would like farmington better..check it out ...they have a bigger school and their sports are better and it is in between PG and Fayetteville (which is where most people do their business) do a google map and you can see where it is...if you need anything else let me know....I don't know much about Farmington school though I never went there...

Yes you have you just don't know it...Remember the movie the Blue and the Gray??? It was filmed at the Battlefield park here in PG and my uncle was an extra in that movie...anyway that battle was really battled here ion PG...:goodvibes

there is a big park here with a bunch of fun facts and old houses and stuff...it is really cool...

I am living in central AR now but lived in Fayetteville for 7 years. That is a fantastic, beautiful area of Arkansas. If you do get to move there, you will LOVE it! So much going on all the time! Yes there is plenty of baseball in that area. My 10 year old plays baseball now and we are up there for tournaments all the time. There is league ball too. My oldest son played when we lived up there. I've never heard anyone say they hated living there. Hope you get the opportunity to move!

Fifth generation Arkansan here, and I've never heard of it either. I spent a lot of December traveling to towns in NW Arkansas (Bentonville, Yellville, Flippin, etc.)

But NW Arkansas is beautiful and has some great schools.

You need to go south a little more past Fay. and Farmington ...anyway it a very pretty area and there is lots of things to do here ...Like I said this is the area where the blue and the gray was fought ..i don't remember the battle it is called though ..I think it is the battle of Prairie Grove? I'll look it up...

That makes me feel better already! People must like it there! I think I will check out Farmington...DS9 LOVES baseball and sports! I truly can't thank everyone enough for all the information. I looked online, but then told my DH...what am I doing...I need to ask my dis friends!:goodvibes Who knows if the job will pan out. DH has a great job now, but it seems to be more $, and a step up in job title.

Oh, what are house taxes like in Arkansas? I pay $2100/ year now. Also...I heard it is cheaper to license your cars there...when we buy a new car, we can expect to pay $1500 at the courthouse to plate it in sales taxes, ect. Right now we pay $400/year for a 2004 explorer.

Thanks again everyone!! You are all so kind to help me! :wizard:

I don't know about the taxes being lower but I do know someone that moves for CA and said that it was like 75% lower than in CA...did you check out the park?

I am in Little Rock so it's not exactly the same as NW AR, but it should be similar.

House - 2700 sq. ft (4Br,2 1/2 bath) in a very nice close in neighborhood. The house is worth about $235,000. It's 45 years old, but the location is one of the best. Taxes run a little under $2000.

Condo - 1100 sq. ft. (2/2). About 30 years old, but in probably the best old neighborhood. Excellent location with cutest shops and restaurants within walking distance. Taxes are about $900.

I moved here from the San Francisco area. Income taxes were a little less - but I was surprised that it wasn't more of a big drop. But everything else is SO much cheaper than in CA. Example - vet bill in CA $400 - same thing in Arkansas at the best vet in the state - $100.

I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey. The taxes (separate from license) are about $400 a year. License is nominal - like $40 if I remember right.

NW Arkansas is in a little bit of a slump right now so there should be some good housing bargains. It's nothing that is nearly as bad as Arizona, Florida or Nevada.

I went to college in Fayetteville. That area of the state is gorgeous. I would definitely consider a move to that area. Good luck to your husband and whatever you guys decide.

Op how are things going?? have you had a chance to check out Farmington? Do you have any other questions?...:goodvibes
