Practically Perfect at the Poly? **UPDATE 7/28 -- And We're Back!!

How sweet that Mark picked up that pin for you!! I agree, UP really is one of the most romantic movies ever!

Booooo last days are so sad!!! I'm thinking you're going to talk about what you thought of the Poly next?? I am very much looking forward to this post!!

You know you're a Disney addict when...an animated movie is on your list of most romantic movies ever! :lmao:

Yes, my next post will be a general wrap-up with a review of the Poly. Much like Fox News, I hope to make it fair and balanced. :lmao: Sorry, I might be the only who thinks that funny. :rolleyes1

Max is too short for the camera? how cute. I bet my youngest nephew was too.

I had that tuna dish. It was delish!!!!!!!!!

Love the pin. What a great surprise!

Oh no! You were definitely stressing too soon! I hate when that happens.

I am curious to read your Poly pros and cons!

Its hard for me to believe that you can get that tuna at Sunshine Seasons for a CS credit. Totally worth it.

It really was wonderful! And all the more amazing because Mark just isn't that type of super romantic guy.

Yeah, I was totally stressed out. I came back to school after February in a really foul mood. Luckily, I got out of it pretty quickly.

I'm trying to figure out how to write a balanced update about the Poly. I know that a lot of people have strong emotions and I don't want to offend anyone, while at the same time still saying what I want to say.

After our lunch, we headed to the Living with the Land.

Disney-2-24-12038.jpg

This is one ride that has barely changed since my childhood, and that’s a good thing!

I love the way the roofline frames the tree in this picture!

Funny, one of the changes I miss the most is from Living with the Land. I really really miss the song that used to play during the ride.

"We're living with the land"

I love Sunshine Seasons too. So many diverse, unique and yummy choices for a counter service. About the only problem with this place is that it competes with all of the wonderful World Showcase counter service places. So many restaurants. So little time!

I think it is so sweet that Mark got you the pin- especially that he realized how much it would mean to you. Your comment about a Disney movie being at the top of your list of romantic movies cracked me.

It reminded me that one of the most romantic things my Mark ever said to me revolved around triplets and a murder-suicide. Long story.

Great update, Tina. Sounds like a great ending to the trip, and glad you had an uneventful trip home.

Boooo, why do departure days have to suck so darn much?!!?! It sounds like you really loved the Poly, it seems like such an incredible resort. The grape soda pin brought tears to my eyes, that was such a lovely surprise that you got! I'm sorry this trip is nearing the end, but luckily there is always another one in the works.

So, because you asked (OK, Amanda asked...but she was speaking on behalf of everyone, yes?) and because I’m getting super, duper excited and because I’m almost done with this TR...here are my July plans! I made some last minute changes (as in just made them last night), but I’m pretty happy with the results.

Day One -- Art of Animation Resort --Cars family suite

We’re doing this solely to give Max the experience of the Cars section. I’m actually excited to be checking this place out, as I could see possibly staying in a standard room at some point down the road. And it does look super cool.

We’ll be at the resort around one-ish, so my general plan is to hang out, check out the Finding Nemo and the Cars pools, and maybe walk over to Pop to check that out, too. I really want to walk around and just snap as many pictures as I can. Should we end up being bored, we can always hop a bus to EPCOT for a couple of hours, but I’m hoping

That evening, we’ll dine at the AofA food court, as it looks interesting. Seems like there are a ton of options, no matter what I’m in the mood for. This will also be nice as we really won’t have a reason not to make this an early night.

Day Two -- Move to the Beach Club

We’ll check out of AofA and turn our luggage over to bell services as I pray it will make its way to the Beach Club in somewhat timely manner. In case it doesn’t, I’ll bring the backpack with me this day, packed with our swim gear, so we can do that when we get to the Beach Club.

My hope is to make rope drop at Animal Kingdom. We have an 11:30 at Tusker House for lunch. Yes, you may recall that Tusker House (I think) did me in back in July of last year, so why am I risking it? Well, Max asked for more character meals, lunch looks good, and last July could have happened for a number of reasons.

We’ll go back to the Beach Club, probably go to SAB, before we go back to our room to really unpack. I am really hoping to get Max to take a good nap this evening, as there are extra magic hours at Magic Kingdom and I’d love for him to make at least a little bit of it.

We have an 8:30 ADR at Kona. This may seem late, but there is a method to my madness. Last summer, Max swam until four everyday and usually didn’t nap until about 4:30. By the time we were ready to leave the room again, it was usually at least 6:30. Then we’d go to EPCOT, usually, and ride Spaceship Earth and we wouldn’t want to eat dinner until 8:30 or 9:00. So, I made later ADRs on purpose this time. I hope it works out.

After dinner, we’ll either watch Wishes from the Poly beach or take the boat over to MK right away. In any event, we’ll get to see some of the EWP, which I really do love.

The plan is to watch Wishes (from inside the park...for my first time..um..ever), see the MSEP, which Max has never seen, and get a few rides in before Max inevitably crashes. Depending on the time, I will may stay at MK to shut the place down in the wee hours. Who doesn’t want to ride Space Mountain and/or BTMRR (which I’m so excited for, as it was closed in April and February and is my FAVORITE ride in all of Disneyworld) multiple times in a row?

Day Three -- Resort Day

So, after evening EMHs at MK, I realized that it might not be a great idea to plan on making rope drop anywhere. Or doing anything, for that matter. I’ll never forget doing evening EMHs at MK ‘till close to three with Karin and Tom (Dizneat) and then waking up for an 8:00 ADR at Crystal Palace. I thought I might die...but it was Disney, so I soldiered on.

We have a 10:00 breakfast ADR at Kouzzina. We loved it here last July. In fact, in a trip of really icky meals, Kouzzina was a true stand out.

After that, we’ll hit the pool and relax. We can always stroll over to EPCOT if we get bored, but I think we’ll be OK with SAB to entertain us.

That night, we have an ADR at the Flying Fish to celebrate our anniversary! Max has an ADR (ha) at the Sandcastle Club. He loved the Neverland Club so much, it seemed like trying a kids’ club again was a great idea. This started as Yachstmen ADR, mainly because it was close. I then changed it to Citrico’s, which I love, but I am going back in October (with MEK and EANDESMOM), plus getting there would be more difficult. So Citrico’s was out and we were back to the Yachtsmen. I was smart and checked out the menu on-line on Disney’s website, which is hard to access, but more up to date than what’s on All Ears. I’m glad I did because the only things that were pulling me there were gone. I’m also not a huge steak lover, so there’s that. Then, I thought of the Flying Fish, and viola! Problem solved.

Day Four--EPCOT

I hope to be at EPCOT when it opens because, god willing, Max is now over 40” tall. He’s measuring that without shoes and over that with his sneakers, fingers crossed. We’ll make a bee line for Soarin’ of course. After that, we’ll do whatever we want, which if I know my son, will involve multiple trips on Spaceship Earth. I’m hoping to do Energy and Imagination, as Max hasn’t seen either yet.

We have a lunch ADR at Chefs. I had lunch there in April, ordered the prix fixe, and loved it! We had the best meal and we got to see Remy, all while watching the chair guy from our window front table.

That evening, we’ll head to DHS. We have an 8:00 ADR at Fifties Primetime. This was another surprise from April; we went and had a great meal. I think Max will love this!

Day Five -- Finally the MK!

Yes, we will have been there already, but this will our first time during the day. I think we should make rope drop, no problem. Incidentally, this our actual anniversary.

We have a lunch ADR at the Plaza. A late addition, but someone’s TR inspired me.

And then something happened just yesterday to re-arrange my plans. I had originally planned on going to the Flying Fish on this night with Mark and Max. But then it was confirmed that, yes, indeed, the Cali Grill is closing in early 2013 and won’t re-open for some time. This trip was my last chance to go there as it is right now, as the rumor mill is seems to insist that when it re-opens, the changes will be signficant. So I was able to snag an ADR here. And I’m so thrilled that I did. This place has a lot of happy memories for me and it is our anniversary, so I’m thinking it will be all the more magical.

Day Six -- DHS

We’ll head over there early and do breakfast at Writer’s Stop. I’m sure we’ll ride TSM and, we’re hoping, Star Tours. Probably hang out with some Muppets for awhile. You know...the usual.

That evening we have an 8:30 ADR at La Hacienda. I had another great meal there this April and we had amazing window seats from which to watch Illuminations. It was incredible.

Day Seven -- MK

We have an 8:20 ADR at Crystal Palace. Again, Max wanted some characters and this happens to be one the best. Plus, who can argue with a walk up empty Main Street?

That evening we’ll have our last meal of the trip at Via Napoli.

So, that’s the plan, as of right now.

Your plans look fantastic. I can't wait to see pictures of the Cars Suite. Now that my brother actually wants to plan another trip I would like to steer them in that direction.

I love all your ADRs and your resort day. You are going to have such a great time and I can't wait for Max to ride Soarin. I bet he loves it! :goodvibes

Your plans sound great11 I can't wait to hear what you think of the AoA suites!!!

Yes, I read the same thing about CG this morning! January 6th to late summer 2013. I'm very curious to see what the refurb looks like!!

Your plans sound super and your meal choices look fantastic!!!

Tusker House- is lunch a character meal? In 2008 we ate there for breakfast and lunch (on the same day) and only the breakfast had characters.

I am very jealous about your plans to eat at Kouzzina, Via and La Hacienda. I hear nothing but raves about all of them.

I'll definitely be thinking of you and wishing you a wonderful trip at my happy place.

I love your plans! Thank you so much for sharing for me. You have some great ADRs in there! :thumbsup2

And I can't wait to see what y'all think of AoA! The Cars section looks adorable! I'm actually considering booking a Cars suite for a night or 2 either before or after our cruise in May.

I think that's great that y'all are going to let Max do another kids club one night while y'all get a date night. I'm very excited to try this on our trip. I've heard so many good things about Flying Fish. I considered moving our date night there but couldn't get a good time.

And Congrats on getting a Cali Grill ADR! I read today about it closing.

Your plans sounds great!

I'm going to wish you a fun time on your trip before I forget! ;)

All your plans sound great. :thumbsup2 No rushing, plenty of pool time and LOTS of yummy food, sounds like the perfect trip!

I'm glad you were able to snag that Cali Grill ADR. I am sooooo bummed I won't get there before it closes. I've gone over my October plans and it just doesn't fit. :sad2:

You will love the Plaza, it's the perfect place to catch your breath at MK. And I can't wait to hear what you think of Via Napoli, we're trying it for the first time in October.

Your plans look great. I'm interested to see the AoA resort, so I'm glad you're planning on taking lots of pictures. :)

Drat, I never made it to Cali Grill before these upcoming renovations, so I'll never experience it in its current form. Oh well.

Thanks! Hadn't noticed that about the picture. :thumbsup2 And triplets??? :lmao: That sounds like something my husband would come up with.

Great update, Tina. Sounds like a great ending to the trip, and glad you had an uneventful trip home.

Thanks, Kathy!

Aww...it was very sweet. He doesn't always deal with my freak-outs well, not is he the most romantic guy on the planet. He has lots of other awesome qualities, though.

Thanks! I'm hope I'm done messing with them. :lmao: Its was seriously dumb luck that I was able to snag an ADR at Cali Grill so close to the trip. Might mean cancelling some other TS adrs as a cost saving measure, though.

Your plans sound great11 I can't wait to hear what you think of the AoA suites!!!

Yes, I read the same thing about CG this morning! January 6th to late summer 2013. I'm very curious to see what the refurb looks like!!

I can't wait to check out AoA. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the values are like. I'm hoping I get to take a walk over to Pop! too, while I'm there. I'm hoping to convince Mark that we should eek out one last trip on our APs this February an I think my only shot is if we can stay at a value, at least for part of the trip!

Your plans sound super and your meal choices look fantastic!!!

Thanks! Lunch is a character meal now; it wasn't always. I'm looking forward to some of their more "exotic" choices. We're having breakfast at Kouzzina, which we loved. Our trip last July was, unfortunately, full of not so great meals, and our breakfast there was a trip highlight. And my husband and I are not breakfast people, so that's saying something. Via Napoli is great, one of my favorites, and I think that as long as I stay away from the fish tacos (I always forget that I just don't like them...anywhere!), I'm sure La Hacienda will be great, too!

I'm so thrilled to be heading back to the Beach Club. Unless I can ever spring for a MK view room at the Contemporary and/or Max gets old enough to appreciate AKL, I can't imagine staying anywhere else!

I love your plans! Thank you so much for sharing for me. You have some great ADRs in there! :thumbsup2

Thanks! As for the AoA room, unless I come back with a horrible report, and I doubt that I will just given how brand new the place is, GET IT!! I'm sure Reid will love it.

Flying Fish is great. Its also one of the signatures that its not bad to take kids, too. It has a pretty boisterous atmosphere.

And, yeah, the Cali Grill ADR was just luck! We'll see if we make it. We have had an ADR there for every trip we've made since 2010, and I've cancelled it every time. :sad2: I think knowing that's it closing will be an extra push, though.

Via Napoli... YUM! All that needs to be said lol

Your plans sounds great!

I'm going to wish you a fun time on your trip before I forget! ;)

You will love the Plaza, it's the perfect place to catch your breath at MK. And I can't wait to hear what you think of Via Napoli, we're trying it for the first time in October.

Well..you were my inspiration for both the Cali Grill ADR and the Plaza. :thumbsup2 I've eaten at Via Napoli four times now and I've love it every single time. And I'm from a part of the country where we take our pizza really seriously, so that's a high compliment. Incidentally, the other things we've had there have been delicious, too. Its also one of the few places that Max can get straight up spaghetti and meatballs, which is his favorite meal.

Your plans look great. I'm interested to see the AoA resort, so I'm glad you're planning on taking lots of pictures. :)

Drat, I never made it to Cali Grill before these upcoming renovations, so I'll never experience it in its current form. Oh well.

Thanks, Glenn! Don't know how good my pics will be, but hopefully they will be adequate. :lmao: I really can't wait!

The main reason I feel so compelled to go back to Cali Grill is that Mark and I had an amazing night there on our first trip back in 2010, so it has serious sentimental value.

Happy Birthday to my beautiful, wonderful son...he is the reason we keep going back to Disney...again and again!
Who am I kidding? We'd go back without him, too!

We were watching "UP" recently (can you tell its one of our favorites?), and during the scene where Carl is looking through Ellie's Adventure Book, Max asked if he could have one, too. So, here's my attempt at being creative:

2012-07-05224745.jpg

Its a Mickey three-ring binder, which I already had, and I filled it with pictures of his first five, adventure-filled, years. Oh, and we're under two weeks now!!!

party: Happy Birthday to my handsome little friend Max!! party:

Tina, did I dream it, or did you say that you will have vacation time in February?
I thought I had read it somewhere, but cannot find it again now. Duh ..... the end of the school year really seems to have gotten to me, if I start halluzinating. :rotfl2:

Oh, and btw - I LOVE all your plans, just wish you would go in August instead of July. We would love to spend more time with you all.

Give Max a HUGE hug from Tom and me! :grouphug:
