Aloha!

My family is planning to head down to DLR mother's day weekend. My DD12 is participating in a school band/choir competition at the park that weekend, so DH, DS7, and I are making a quick trip to cheer them on and spend some time in the parks.

DD will be staying with her school group at a neaby hotel. We've got enough reward points with our Disney Visa to either stay at the PPH with a resort view or the GCH with just a standard view. The last time we were there, we stayed in the DLH, but are thinking of trying something new (plus the hotel renovations may still be going on at the DLH). We've never stayed at the GCH before so I am tempted to try that, but having a resort view is tempting as well. How worth it is the view at the PPH?

We don't have a lot of time in the parks, so being close helps.

Any recommendations between the 2 would be greatly appreciated!

Mahalo!

We have stayed in both and I prefer to stay at GC. If you plan on being in your room a lot then I would do the PP resort view. If close is important, it can't get any closer than GC. It is so convenient to go back to your hotel and grab something quick, take a rest, etc.

Honestly, I would always pick the GCH over a view any day of the week. I, personally, don't spend enough time in the room for the 'vew' to be worth anything. The walking distance from the GCH to the entrance is more than enough for me without taking into account how much I absolutely love that hotel to begin with.

My vote would be for the GCH.

World of Color will be open by then, and as such, I would choose the Paradise Pier with a Park View, especially one of the higher floors. The crowds for that thing will be massive, and being able to enjoy it, or even part of it, from a hotel room sounds heavenly to me.

Without World of Color...it would be a GCH standard, hands down. The hotel is simply amazing. PPH has always been a disappointment. The lobby is just...so so...and while the rooms are nice, I didn't think they were any nicer than the Hojo Family Suite.

Well, those are my two cents...and worth what you paid for them.:rotfl2:

There are some rumors that the opening for World of Color could be pushed back as late as Memorial Day--that was predicted about a week ago, with the caveat that it's more likely to be pushed back if it rains. Obviously it rained real hard in the last few days, and that very well could put their construction schedule back. :( I'm not so sure I would book a room hoping to see it in May.

If the PPH is cheaper, I think I'd probably stay there, but otherwise I think the Grand Californian might be better. If it were me I think I'd go with the cheapest and take my chances. :flower3:

(Again, though, I agree with the idea that if you're not in your room much, a park view is less appealing.)

Mahalo for all of your thoughts! We decided to go with the GCH standard room. Being close (and in a hotel we've never stayed at) over ruled the view. Plus, we probably won't be in the room very much to enjoy the view.

But maybe just maybe we can hope for an upgrade to a park view!

Aloha!
