Powerball Jackpot

We play maybe 3 times a year? I dunno. When the powerball gets extremely high like this, we'll buy a couple tickets. My hubs used to play the lottery some in NY. I had never bought a lottery ticket in my life until he moved down here 4 years ago :rotfl:

Good luck, all!

People buying tickets online from out of the country was reported to have hit new highs also. watch it be won by someone outside the USA.

Yeah, I don't think a lot of people are aware that people from outside the U.S. can play. I'm sure there will be quite the uproar if this happens!

All the markets I've passed today have signs reading 999 million for the jackpot - they're not set up to go over that. Six people in CO won 50k to 150k (with power play) last night. Two in Denver. Wish I could say I was one of them!

They'll have to make the effort to go stateside to buy the tickets. According to Canadian media sources there are certain online ticket resalers, but you may be disqualified from winning this way...

Licensed online retailers can only sell to those within their own state. Anyone who is not a US citizen & wins pays more in federal taxes - 30%.

Why? From my understanding of the Powerball website, people outside the country are allowed to play so we are following the rules. We are Canadian and DS was in New York this week and bought some tickets.

Just last month there was an article about a man from Iraq winning the Oregon lottery by purchasing through an online broker based in Malta. Everything checked out OK. This was a measly $6.4 million win, so there was no uproar and little attention.

But yes, if a foreigner wins over a billion dollars, I expect plenty of Americans will be outraged.

Same reaction if a stereotypical welfare queen wins.

All I know is that somebody is going to be very rich. It's not my decision of course but I hope that it's someone who gives back a little of it.

Because, as I said, many people believe that it is a U.S. lottery for U.S. citizens only. I myself was under that impression until I read about the winner from the middle east who won the Oregon lottery not long ago.

There was a small uproar online when this happened but I imagine it will be a much larger uproar if it happens with the Powerball jackpot. I expect there will be a lot more reporting by the media about it as well.

I oftenplay the lottery when I visit Europe, I think as long as you can go back to claim the prize, it should be no problem. Imagine all the tourists buying the powerball here, same thing. I never thought you had ot be a resident to win, in that case they would ID you every time you bought tickets, same ith buying out of state tickets. I lost $2 in vermont once hahah cuz i obvioulsy idnt go back to claim that! but in new jersey i was able to mail it in to get $41!

I WON!!!! Well, one of my 10 bets matched the power ball number 13. So that's four bucks.

Looks like there won't be enough to share my winnings with everybody who liked my prior posts. Sorry to those I have to exclude.

You have my permission to reinvest my one thousand of a penny.

I didn't "get" your original response. I saw Reality Bites, but don't really remember much about it.

I'm GUESSING the poster who said he/she'd like to buy the world a coke was referring to those early 1970s TV commercials. Maybe he/she will come back and make it clear.

Yeah someone posted a video of the commercial so I got that reference wrong. Oh well.

So if you pay the extra buck for the power play what does that mean?

We win $4 too! Rolled it into another two tickets.

Power Play® is a special add-on feature that allows a winner to increase the original prize amounts (except the jackpopt). The Power Play option costs $1 and must be selected when you buy your Powerball ticket. Powerball players with the Power Play option winning any prize other than the jackpot will win a larger cash prize. The Match 5+0 prize with Power Play option grows to $2,000,000 paid in a cash lump sum (no annuity option is offered). All other lower prizes (below Match 5) will be multiplied by a number that we draw (2X, 3X, 4X, or 5X). In October 2015, a 10X multiplier was added to the mix with a chance to be drawn for all jackopts at $150 million or less. As with any lottery prize, if an extremely popular number is drawn and there is not enough money in the prize pools or reserves to cover it, we may need to reduce the prize.

I posted a fun scenario question to my friends on Facebook. Basically, what would you do with that kind of Powerball winnings? A surprising number of people have indicated that they want to swim in a vault of gold coins like Scrooge McDuck....

I was just coming to this thread to say that's exactly what I would do. Build a replica of Uncle Scrooge's Money Bin. :cool1:

If I win, I will buy the Disboard and all will be compelled to like my posts and say things like "Ricky Bobby you are always right". Those who do not comply with the previous statement will do so at their own peril. HaaaaHaaaaaaa (Evil laugh)

19 year daughter bought her first lottery ticket yesterday. Someone at work is doing a pool this week.

$1.3 billion. That's unfathomable to me.
