Powerball jackpot is $400 million ...however

I caved and bought a ticket only b/c I have always bought a ticket in record jackpots and $800M has to be the new record...I think this is the 5th lottery ticket I've bought in my lifetime (I doubled my investment on my last one, winning $2 for $1). Now that this is $3, I'm hoping for $6...

What did I do today. I actually told my boss to switch my shift from morning to afternoon/evening. I think it had something to do with the guy I switched with, I knew he would not be able to handle it, and I would. At least I get brownie points for coming in today (off day) and switching shifts (best for the store- my boss told me it was a good idea). I offered to work the insanity.

So I have asked people what they would buy. One guy said houses and out of debt for his family with most of it going to his church. One guy ( a regular) said he would be taking the employees to state capital, one women said she is taking long-term employees to private island with cabana boys and women. One guy said a quick divorce and we would never see him again but get a wire transfer. And onto my favorite- Strippers and Blow. My co worker and I laughed for about 5 minutes straight to that one.

I usually play some form of lottery when I go on vacation. I was in Florida in November and somewhere I have a ticket worth $15 that I have to mail to Florida to get my winnings. Perhaps in a year I spend $100. Often I win small amounts and lose the tickets.

Today I will make a point to spend a few bucks.

My wife bought a ton of tickets. I don't know how many, I told her she can do whatever she wants and to not tell me!

Then last night at dinner she wanted me to play the "what would we do if we won $700 billion" game. She's like "where would we move? How would we change?" I'm like "I'd still wear jeans and Seahawks sweatshirts, except now they'd be new Seahawks sweatshirts without any holes!"

DH has a lottery pool at work that buys on a weekly basis, with everyone that participates paying $5/week for the Saturday drawings. However, for this mega jackpot, he also opened a new lottery pool for work for the specific drawing today.
There were around 11-12 people total for today, and they all put $10 towards it. DH has photocopied the tickets and sent them to the players.

Our family bought $10 in tickets on our own. I would like to think we could be smart winners, if it happens. If nothing else, it is always fun to dream!


We would donate a nice chunk to the local college to help build a new gymnasium, and would pay off everyone's balance at our local veterinarian office. Then we would rush order our passports and take a month-long cruise while we figured things out.

The $900M number is by installments. It's only $500M+ if you take lump sum. You get taxed either way.

Well I decided I'd throw my hat in the ring. Three tickets are now sitting on the counter waiting for tonight. No, I don't think I'm going to win, but I make more money than I spend and thinking about how I'd spend it is a fun mental exercise. DH bought a few tickets yesterday and last night DD, DH and I spent over an hour talking and laughing about how we'd spend the wind fall. Seems like a pretty good return on that small investment.

My husband and I bought two tickets on our way home tonight! We figured we can't win if we don't play. He asked me if we won, would I want to share our money with family members and I said absolutely without hesitation. We love our families so much and I can't imagine winning "even just" 1 million and not sharing. Now, if we had some rotton apples in our family then my answer would be different but I sure would get a lot of joy out of being able to tell our parents and siblings that they're all taken care of.

This week, we didn't......and of course 13 was the power ball.

Someone above said they would buy a beach house if they won....forget that, I'd buy the whole island if I win on Wednesday!!
