Powerball jackpot is $400 million ...however

The last 2 drawings....we had 13 as the powerball on our ticket.

This week, we didn't......and of course 13 was the power ball.

Someone above said they would buy a beach house if they won....forget that, I'd buy the whole island if I win on Wednesday!!

Than I would have to buy a boat or a seaplane to go with the island. Guess I could afford a small yacht.....lol.

I don't even have any rollover cash as I didn't match any numbers on my two tickets.

I'm going to buy again, of course!

Wish I lived in a state where I could remain anonymous. The poor person that does win is really going to be hounded to donate money for a lot of things. I would be happy with a smaller prize so not to be in the spot light.

Just checked and saw that no one won and the jackpot is now over a billion. Insanity! We all get to dream a few more days! Our dinnertime discussion last Friday night was hysterical with how we all wanted to spend the money. Previous posters mentioned a beach house.....one of mine was beach house(s) in many different locations! The fact that no one matched the numbers in the last two drawings, with the crazy number of tickets sold, really shows you how astronomical the odds are. Can you imagine if no one wins on Wednesday? Well, I think I'm beyond $1 bills now and I just may drop a $20 on it. That's big spending for me! Everyone have fun dreamin'!

This. I just don't know what I would do with that much money and I don't know if I want the world to know I have it and who my family is. My state is NOT an "anonymous" one. I wouldn't mind being one of the folks who won 1 mil or 2 mil last night. I guess that is what I am aiming for. :)

I'm with you on the anonymous part! Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and South Carolina allow you to claim and remain anonymous. Connecticut, Vermont, and Colorado allow you to claim through an LLC, thus remaining anonymous. Just be sure to put a registered agent on the LLC and not your name and address! I'm sure we'll all want to know who the winner(s) are, but I can also see them wanting to remain quite anonymous. Well, at this point, you would have enough money to disappear!

I've always thought I would get a decent looking wig, do my makeup up and wear my glasses instead of contacts to claim my prize. I have a common enough name I can't find myself on google. My mom worked with someone with my same name years ago. Then it's just a matter of laying low, not being splashy online and weeding out the bad apples. I don't agree with the state not letting you choose what info you want released.

DH played $10, won 8. So he kicked in another $2 to play $10 for the next drawing. I'm going to have to buy a ticket too because I told DD14 I wouldn't play for anything less than a billion so now that it got there she's got numbers all picked out for me. She's got good luck at Keno at the local pub, maybe she'll be my billion-dollar lucky charm!

My husband just bought a ticket and we are having these same discussions--we would need bodyguards! we would need to move! But of course we would take multiple lavish vacations! Fun to talk about.

Same here as far as living in a state where I could remain anonymous as well as being satisfied with a smaller amount so as not to be in the spotlight so much.

My FIL made a good point today. He said to wait to officially claim at the latest time you can and if possible claim it during another big event that would be more interesting then your winning on the news. So sadly claiming your ticket during a major natural disaster or something similar would help keep you out of the news or less important in the news.

I don't think the person who wins this will be able to stay anonymous forever. If it is a single winner, the entire world will want to know. The media hype and speculation will be completely off the charts until the name is produced. As DH said, "Being a single winner would instantaneously put you on a Forbes list of some type. People are going to find out."

Forbes's list is based on SEC filings. Unless you buy a lot of stock in a few companies, owning more than 5%, you'll never make that list.

Election Day

Just a different perspective:

My DH does NOT want to win the lottery. He firmly believes that big money = big problems when it is a windfall like the lottery. It's bad enough when you have EARNED your money, but when you didn't earn it, well you should definitely share it with anyone who asks or else you are REALLY greedy!

Anyhow, having said that, he's pretty much HAD to play! Why? He owns a small company of about 50 employees. Most everyone chipped in to the pool (and once he did, everyone did). If they won, he'd have to go out of business. Even if only 1/2 of the people gave notice or immediately quit, there's no way he could hire and train enough people fast enough to keep his business running smoothly.

So, despite his dislike for the lottery, you can see why he felt he had no choice but to play.

Time to take out a $580 million loan & buy all the possible ticket combinations

You would only break even - don't forget state taxes and some cities tax you as well.
