Power Rangers in MGM ???

Doug, I did explain that to my kids when they were 3. They are now 7 and 8 and have been watching PR for many years and it has never been a problem. Of couse people can make thier own choices about thier own childern. I just don't like it when someone says that they won't let their childern watch PR becuase it causes them to fight. I also did and do as you mentioned. I sat and watched these programs with my kids and we talked about the story and why they did what they did in the story and asked my kids questions about what was right and wrong. We do this for any show we watch.

imagine if after this more non disney characters came like harry potter ot bugs bunny
:p

Terry,

That's great! I, however, feel strongly that my son is not capable of deciding what is real and what fiction is at the age of three. Also, as a kindergarten teacher, my wife can give you first hand testimony that MANY young children at the ages of five and six and older are not able to determine when fighting is appropriate — even when it is just play. Our society has so many violent images at every turn, I just want my son to be a little boy and enjoy the innocence of youth for a few more years! That's why we go to WDW! I’m not against boys being boys (I am one after all!); I just don’t feel that at his age he is capable of determining what is appropriate. For a short time, this is our responsibility as parents. If we do our job right, he will be able to do so in time. I fully agree with you that parents being involved in their children’s life and entertainment choices makes a huge difference and your children may well be at an appropriate age to watch PR, please just don’t get upset with parents who know it’s not right for their children at this age.

What kind of power rangers because theres like about 15 different kinds. I am only a kid I only like 2 kinds of them and 1 of them isn' t even on anymore. the other types are really cheesy. But PR would make a good ride. :rockband: :moped: :badpc: :jumping2: :thewave: :crowded: :space: :drinking1 :hyper:

I just told my son and he is very excited. I will probably get flamed for this but it really drives me crazy when people say they won't let thier kids watch PR because it causes them to fight. I am all for sensoring TV watching and I would not let me kids watch certain shows when they were younger. But come on PR is good vs evil, there is no foul language, there is no blood. We explained to our kids that the PR rangers were using thier martial arts moves to defend themselves and others against bad people and this is the only time martial arts should be used. They understood this and there was never a problem.

Did any of you watch the coyote blow up the road runner as a child? Did you go out and blow up people?

Terry!! I sooo agree with you on this. My oldest son was 4 when Power Rangers first came out. My youngest son was born 1 month after Power Rangers first hit the air. My oldest loved that show since it started. My 16 yo nephew loved it, too. We have almost all the toys that ever came out. DS quickly stopped liking Power Rangers, but DS2 took up his brother's liking of the show. DS2 got all the toys that DS and nephew had. He's an avid collector.

Did my boys ever fight and hurt others because they watched Power Rangers? NO!!! As a parent I was sure to tell them what was and was not the proper way to act. Power Rangers has fighting, but it's against ridiculous looking monsters. There is no blood, no torture, no swearing. Kids can mimic anything. It's up to the parents to TEACH their child what is acceptable behavior. They sure did play Power Rangers at our home, but they never hurt anyone.

We went through this very thing about Pokemon in our town. A few teachers in the schools wouldn't even allow Pokemon notebooks because they said Pokemon was "evil". Why? Because they heard that the creatures change into other creatures which is "evil", plus the Pokemon fight to death. So untrue. The creatures battle in arenas and when they run out of health points they faint. The creature then has to go to a healing center to be get it's point's back. Have they ever watched the show? NO. If they did they would see it's a cute cartoon that is far from evil. Even our church had a Pokemon party for the kids a few years back. Such misinformation out there.

Every parent has the right to decide what their children can watch.

I am a parent who does not allow MTV in my house. I think that channel is just disgusting.

As far as Power Rangers is concerned, I don't mind watching the show. I think it's up to the parents to watch this show with their children and teach their children what is the right and wrong way to act. It's okay to act like a Power Ranger. It is not okay to put your hands on someone else and hurt them by being a Power Ranger.

My kids have played Power Rangers for the last 11 years. No one has been hurt. We still watch that show in my house, too. I personally like the show. It's better than some of those stupid Cartoon Network shows.

I'd like to see Power Rangers at MGM.

If my child was too young to understand the difference between right/wrong- pretend fighting on cartoon and real fighting in real life HURTS others- then I wouldn't let them watch the cartoon (and didn't at those ages!). I don't see how it's going to hurt to have PR characters at WDW though... if your child is too young to understand therefore not watching the cartoon- how is it going to hurt them to see PR characters standing there with a line of people getting pictures and autographs? How is that going to harm their little psyches and such? I don't get that.

(ps. my son just likes them because they are "cool"- wear cool outfits, are good guys, etc. For the very same reason he likes spiderman so much)

Just wondering if anyone else knows the specifics on this. Definitely DON'T want to weigh in on the "Power Rangers good or bad" debate!! Seems like alot of negativity on the board lately. I hope everyone can voice opinions whether pro or con without all the bickering. Ok, I wasn't going to say anything!

Anyway, we'll be there early Feb. Does anyone know if there is any chance the Power Rangers will be there by then? :D

Has anyone heard anything further about this? Has anyone actually seen any power rangers at MGM?

My son is about to be 4 and has just started into the power rangers. I didn't necessarily love them- but he hears about them at daycare and came home 'powing' with his arm- I think they even watched a movie or two that other parents brought in. Anyway, they are on toondisney now and I've given in to the resistance. I don't mind as long as the kicking other people thing doesn't start. He will pow with his arm- but has never touched his sister or anyone else that I know of. If he does, he will not be allowed to do this anymore. To me, this is no worse than a lot of the other stuff kids watch. There are several cartoons- non of them on disney channel- that are not allowed in my house- but that is for another thread. I am surprised Disney has picked them up so to speak- they aren't the typical disney characters. However, there are several characters others may not agree with- for instance, my sweet mom doesn't like 'mean' characters like Jafar in the parks and she certainly doesn't like them slamming autograph books down at children- like he did with my niece. However, I think it is hysterical! But, he does scare the heck out of my daughter on the movie- so I know not to go near him at WDW. Same with the power rangers. I'm sure many parents may avoid them in the parks b/c they don't like them. You can't please everyone. I think disney may be trying to make the boys happier since the girls have the princesses. Either way, my son will be thrilled if they are in the parks. princess:

I am AMAZED that they are still popular? I don't get it.I didn't get it when my DS was 8.I thought the show was cheesy, and yes, he and his buddies got pretty wound up after they watched it. Ugh,glad he's 19 and we are "delivered" from PR!! :rotfl:

remember a few years back when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were there ....my grandson and granddaughter were soooo excited and we had to stand in line to get their autograph.....and they do karate and moves and all the above.....no different then the PR

Am I the only one with a daughter who will be excited to meet the Power Rangers. Each trip to Blockbuster she rents one power ranger movie and one Mary Kate and Ashley video. At least she is keeping it balanced.

My dd in Pre-K is into the PR because she has so many boys in her class that are into them. Eventhough we do not let her watch it at home, she can tell you all the characters and what they do. It is hard to keep anything away from kids when they go to school! We just keep reinforcing that she should "use her words" when she is frustrated and that seems to work.

I am not sure how to feel about them coming to Disney. I guess I'm just surprised that they have remained popular for so long!! I always thought the show was kind of cheesy.

I think power rangers have made a 'comeback' like so many other things- strawberry shortcake, care bears, my little pony, etc. All of these were popular when I was young. I think they are playing off what parents today had when they were little. Anyway, they are back on tv regularly- on toondisney- everyday, adding to their popularity. princess:

Oh but there will be!! Just as Disney snapped up the rights to the Power Rangers, they snapped up the rights to a Harry Potter themed attraction!

But Six Flags has the rights to Bugs and Co., so I wouldn't worry about them!

Our almost five year old DS will be thrilled. I hope they're on site by mid-March. Our son has never actually watched an entire episode of PR, but he loves them (and the Ninja Turtles). I'm not sure how this developed, as we limit what he watches, even though he has a pretty firm grasp on the real vs pretend issues. Whether your kids watch the show or not, seeing the characters will be a thrill.

DS(8) still loves the Power Rangers, has been watching them since 1996, every February they come out with another PR series and toys to match (DS has quite the collection starting with the first series), I haven't told DS that the Power Rangers are in Disney now, going to let it be a surprise for him.

I see absolutely NOTHING wrong with children watching the Power Rangers.

This is awesome news!!! Can't wait to meet them.

I would guess it will be the Space Patrol Delta version since that is the season that just started this week and what all merchandise will be moving over towards.

My DS (3) loves PR and is too cute powering up!

Has anyone heard anything about the Power Rangers coming to WDW?
I haven;t said anything to my son until I know it's a definite.
Please say its true. We are going in Oct.
Valerie

O.k. now I done it. My 7yr old ds was standing here by me reading the posts and seen the PR thing and is about to hop out of his skin! Were going in may and that would be great if they were there by then. He is on the phone calling his best buddy telling him that the PR might be at MGM when we go in may. Now he will never sleep until we get there! But it is so cute seeing him so excited.
