In our long adventures in potty training, our DS likes to go standing up. But he's too short to make it into the toilet without a stool. Theres a stool at Day Care, at home, even at grandma's house. But what do you do when there is no stool? Sitting down means disrobing the lower half of clothing in order to better are aim, but even then we may have accidents.

Any advise is helpful. :)

When we were not at home, DS needed one of us to go with him to help. He also preferred to stand, but if there was no stool, that just wasn't an option, so he had to deal with it.

Well, it has been forever since training my DS' (24&21) but #1 how about buying a stool for your house (like at Toys R Us)..or #2 could he continue to use his potty chair and stand??

EDIT: Oh I see, you do have one at home....hmmm...have stool will travel, take it with you!!! Families have more than one car seat for one child, you could have an extra stool in the car JUST until he grows a bit taller!!!

I am guessing that is he young so wouldn't someone be going in with him when he was away from home. You would have to help him reach or having him sit down and make sure he has it pointed down....:rotfl:

I remember we would just lift DS from behind, under his arms and aim him at the toilet if we were out in public. Does that make sense??

I hope no one minds if I throw in another question here! Is that what is meant by hijacking a thread?? If so, sorry! My DS3 won't stand so I have the opposite problem. When and how do you teach them to stand? After reading the OPs problem, maybe I should be glad that he sits for now!

How much higher does he need to be? If he doesn't need to be much higher stand directly behind him and let him stand on top of your feet. It won't be as high as a stool but it will give him a few extra inches. One of the moms at DD's preschool does this with her son because he refuses to sit.

Ifeikert....I had that problem to but mine out grow it when I went to school I think. He says the washrooms are disgusting at school so he has to stand. I wouldn't worry about it.

I was thinking standing on the feet thing too.

This is what we do with my 3 yr old dgs when we are somewhere with no stool. Works well as long he doesn't take forever.

LOL! Some boys are more stubborn than others. DS1 refused to stand for a full year - DS2 Stands and whizzes all over then sits to poop and whizzes all over - he does clean up after himself though - LOL!! (He's only 3)

I got my oldest DS to stand by sending him to pee with Daddy - DH wasn't too keen on being watched but I told him to suck it up and take one for the team (big baby :lmao: )

OP - We don't worry about the stool too much as DS will just sit and pee if he doesn't see one. I suggest trying that or just going into the bathroom with him until he's taller.

Oh, the joys of potty training. I think when my boys were smaller, I would have them stand on my feet like someone else suggested to give them a little extra height to reach the toilet. If that didn't work, I think I just lifted them under the arms until they were at the right level.

For the poster who has trouble getting her son to SIT. ....

My Wife was a Nanny of 2 boys for YEARS. She threw some cheerios in the toilet and told them the game was to try and sink the cheerio.

Your son can't possibly know if he's sinking the cheerio if he's sitting down! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the suggestions... never thought of the standing on feet or holding him. Hopefully the "I want to do it myself" monster comes doesn't come out when attempting to do that, because cause that gets kinda messy.:scared1:

Must whisper to myself... He won't be potty training forever... He won't be potty training forever... He won't be potty training forever... He won't be potty training forever... He won't be potty training forever...
