Potty Trained and the Mouse

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this but can you teach him to stand up? DS3 is newly PT'd and the sitting and pointing thing just was not working out for us. I told him to stand up like his brother and he's been standing up ever since. I even managed to get him to lift the seat most of the time (minor victory there! LOL).

If he stands then he won't need to take off his pants which is both a sanitary thing and a huge time saver for public bathrooms.

You can hold him up for any toilets that he's too short to aim into.

I am in the midst of PT my DD who will be 2 in a few weeks. We are on week three. She has been doing really well.

We we are out or at someones house I make sure we go to the bathroom about once per hour or so. I simply go, I bring her little potty with me (the infant Bjorn one) and put it on the floor (I try to get the larger stall if its available). I pee on the regular toilet and she goes on her. I know we will have to transition to the big toilet soon, but I am trying to get her settled in what she has just learned first.

I guess my biggest thing is not to let it go too long - especially if you are about to go in a long lineup or travel - pee first. And hope that #2 happen while he is relaxing at the hotel.

For those of you holding your sons, I really suggest standing them on the toilet. Much easier on the arms and back.

Hmmm, add toilet standing to our August Disney prep activities. This could get interesting.

A foolish question, how do you keep them from peeing down on their pants?

they need to hold and aim. ;) Have him practice sinking cheerios.

My son still sits while peeing so he thinks he has to take his pants all the way off to pee since needs to spread his legs to go. :confused3

We are working on not having to do that right now since he's going to preschool in the fall and can't do that there :lmao:

What I've noticed is that he hasn't quite grasped the concept of just pushing it all the way down so he'll pee all over his pants :scared1: so I've told him to get some toilet paper and hold it over himself and that's helped him learn to push it down.

Not sure why but it's working. And it helps creat a little barrier for his stream of pee that might come shooting out if he doesn't push it all the way down.

Of course, I'd love for him to just learn to pee standing up, but for some reason that freaks him out. Any tips on how to get him to do that?

i'll have to try that again....the first time i did my DS freaked out!!! but it was a while ago...although i do count it as excersise for my arms!!!

We started holding him too, but now that he's 30 lbs it is way harder and I find I'm leaning him on the toilet, which is gross. So we switched to standing on it.

About peeing on his pants, I aim for him to prevent any mess when I make him stand on the toilet. He can aim himself at home or school, but standing on there he tends to be easily distracted.

well, at least they will be DISNEY WORLD BATHROOMS you will be seeing all of! Shoot, I have a 9 year old and an almost 3 year old. I know where most of them bathrooms are from just being at the parks with THEM. Its a matter of dealing with it and moving on~
Try not to make a moutain out of a molehill.. your at disney world!

We had the same situation last Sept- newly potty trained DS. I may be repeating some things PP said but here's what I did:

-took a spare set of clothes (t, shorts, underpants) with me in a zip loc- just in case anything got peed on or there was an accident.
-stopped constantly for a bathroom break- there's bathrooms every few feet- it's actually a GREAT place to take a newly potty trained child!
-DS was tall enough to use the toilets standing, so all was well there, but also have used the "Stand on my feet" method too.
-DS wouldn't poop in a toilet for a while. Luckily, he also rarely did so outside of the house. I went on line and ordered the same Baby Bjorn potty that we had at home and had it sent to the resort (drugstore.com had a great price and free shipping on $25 for first order- I sent overnight pull ups too).
-I would never recommend going back to pull ups- I wouldn't take any chance of regressing when you've made such great progress!!!
