We had a hard time understanding Tia too. Not just the accent but the "breathy" way she spoke. I wonder if there is a transcript you can read.

here is the clip of Jack 1st coming into Tia sounds like he says Tia Doma? Funny too when he says to her "I thought I knew you" after she talks to Will :rotfl: http://www.totaleclips.com/Player/Bounce.aspx?eclipid=e28037&bitrateid=235&vendorid=600

I was exceptionally disappointed in the character development in this film. They all seemed to become either sappy (ie --- William Turner who says "How could you whip me like that, Dad?" in one scene -- to swearing he'll save his dad in the next --- WHATEVER!!) or empty in the moral-reserve department (ie --- see Elizabeth's "boo-hoo" moment above).
Funny, I thought the opposite. His dad was trying to save him in the dice game and was willing to take his punishment for him. His dad did his best to redeam himself. Will saw that and realized that his dad really wasn't quite the terrible person he was thinking him to be.

Elizabeth, to me, has always been a bit of a self-centered brat. To me she just seemed to get more that way as the movie went on... I don't think she was ever the epitome of moral reserve... which is why Jack says she is curious. I think she is curious about the pirate life. She and Will are actually less alike, and always have been that way.

So yeah, I totally disagree with you since that was one thing I loved... the character development.

Oh and it was just as long as the other... not sure why that is a huge complaint. Both clock in at just about 2.5 hours.

I really think that people know the other one so well and think they had to be the same. This one was dark and setting up for the end of the trilogy. Reminds me of TT from LOTR in a way.

LOL, my DS David was comparing it to the Star Wars trilogy. Same sort of thing I guess. The one caught in the middle does lots of setting up for the last.

Ok so I saw it for a 2nd time tonight LOL DD went 3 times in 3 days  soooooo I caught something I dont think was mentioned yet... when Jack drops the jar of DIRT and runs down to it and shifts thru it he say "where's the thump thump" :lmao: it was sooo funny when I figured out what he said!

I caught more and now I have to think to recall it all!

it is Tia Dalma..

I think the dog is safe...on IMDB, someone mentioned that on the DVD extras for POTC1, there is an interview with the filmmakers and they are discussing their three rules for filmmaking....one of them is "never kill the dog"...givng the end of POTC2 a bit of an inside joke and a little new meaning!!!! :thumbsup2

I am wondering if this was part of the 2nd relelase of the DVD with additional extras, so they would have already been writng/planning the second and third movies..so they already knew what would be happeniing with the dog ....

I must agree that Elizabeth's development seems not to continue throughout this story. Her character is mighty pointless. In fact, the only thing she does to further the story along is deceive Jack (and Will for that matter). But throughout the film she was just background fodder to everything else going on.

In terms of the film itself, I thought it was great! Everyone is calling this "Empire Strikes Back" for a reason. The sequel is truly dark and it ends off just a little less depressing than the Star Wars sequel. I liked the ending, but I also believe it was unneccesary...they should have saved that surprise for the 3rd film. I guess when they want to promote the next one, they would have a hard time keeping Barbossa a surprise.

Either way, I loved this film. My question... "Why was Jack on Torture Island?" Just food for thought...

do you mean the prison at the very beginning?.....and why was the drawing of the key there? I am thinking he just went there to retrieve that....but why was it there?

I lovd it while watching it, I love it even more thinking back. DH and I discussed going and seeing it again. We both know we missed some stuff. We watched POTC 1 the night before going to see this one, so we caught all the first movie references.

I have to agree wiht Helenabear and say that I thought the character development was outstanding. Elizabeth is a protected child and of course she is going to have moments when she acts out. I found it highly appropriate. But then I was an only child that was pretty protected and spoled at some points and I STILL have moments like that. I can relate. :rotfl2:

DH said that her kiss with Jack at the end seemed like a real "good-bye" kiss and he thinks she will end up with Jack. That's fine, I'll take Will Turner. ;)

I really  Norrington in this movie, even if he is a bad guy. So much better without that stupid wig!!!!!

You guys are so missing a great blog I posted in its own thread... so fun to read from the eyes of one of the writers!

Because I know Disney so well, I guarantee she'll still end up with Will. They like to follow the Ross/Rachel guidelines of life.

But yes, why was the drawing of the key on Torture Island....hmm...

if I saw another giant tentacle I was going to fall asleep! yeah, yeah, just consume the ship already! YAWN.

As for the end... Elizabeth is all "gung-ho" to "save" Jack Sparrow. Gee, that's funny....wasn't she the one who condemned him to death?

They all seemed to become either sappy (ie --- William Turner who says "How could you whip me like that, Dad?" in one scene -- to swearing he'll save his dad in the next --- WHATEVER!!) or empty in the moral-reserve department (ie --- see Elizabeth's "boo-hoo" moment above).

I agree. I actually did fall asleep a couple of times. There are just WAAAYYYYYY too many computer graphics special effects (especially the tentacles, Krakken, and fishy looking pirates - enough already!!). To be a really great movie, it needed more dialogue and character conversation/interaction, and about 1/2 as much computer generated action that mostly just shows the ugly bad guys.

If it weren't for Johnny Depp/Captain Jack Sparrow, this movie would have been a complete snoozefest for me. The only action scene I really loved was the one at the beginning with them trying to escape the cannibals (i.e. the melons/gourds on the stick with Jack Sparrow, and the swinging "net/ball" thing the others were trapped in, rolling around in, etc). That part alone was worth the price of admission. And the part on the water wheel rolling around was very creative, too. But the rest of the action was the same old sword fights (and not great ones) and computer generated mutant-looking creatures that you see in almost any fantasy these days. Zzzzzzzzzzzz.

Wasn't the dress in the water the one that Jack cut off Elizabeth in the first movie?

I thought the dress in the water was the wedding dress. Wasn't she wearing it at the beginning of the movie?

And DS went to see the movie again. He said there were definitely legs in the boots at Tia's when the monkey went to sit on them. He also clearly saw the locket on the table and the hat.

I have to go see this movie again. This time without my 9 year old- I kept having to explain to him what happened when he was in the bathroom.
