POTC2 -- Spoilers thread!

It was good. Can't wait to see #3!!! Was excited to see the Flying Dutchman in person on my next Disney Cruise, but now I am a little scared to see it, honestly. :) Dh was bugged by Barbosa coming back, but I figure that (whole mortality thing) will be answered in the 3rd movie. Bummed because I do think it is to scary for my 3yo (who really wants to see it for his 4th bday- which happens to be POTC theme- next week). He and the friend he wanted to go with would be DEVASTATED by the Kraken eating Jack.

I loved Will and the riding sea turtles comment and Jack and the hide the rum comment. Thought the Comodor flip was a great turn. Also thought Capt Jack was sexier (is that possible??) in this one.

In the carribean the only thing a woman needs to do to disguise herself as a man, is wear a hat.

That's actually an old opera trick; put a woman in a pair of pants and a hat, and nobody will notice the high pitched voice or the 44 double-D's :rotfl:

We saw the movie tonight (11:15pm show) & really enjoyed it. I agree with what you all said, but I missed a couple of references, so I'll have to see it again! pirate:

We went to see it today and loved it too! Can't wait for #3.

Loved the Hide the Rum comment and how the pirates paused when Will said to throw in the rum with the gunpowder barrels. pirate:

:rotfl:

This comment made me laugh too...
Elizabeth Swann: There will come a moment when you have the chance to do the right thing.
Jack Sparrow: I love those moments. I like to wave at them as they pass by.

There was another time that I really remember laughing at something that was said or done... and for the life of me I can't remember what it was!

The dog on the beach was "funny" - poor dog!

Such a good movie! I told DD that we would not go see it in the theater again (trying to watch the budget!) but I might have to change my mind!

You "gotta" love Jack.

Gotta question and instead of starting yet another POTC II thread I thought I'd post it here.

Was Davy Jones a computer generated character or a guy in some fantastic make up? Or possibly a little of both? For that matter, MANY of his crew looked like they might be computer animation.

Edited to add: I will never look at a seafood dinner the same way again. Calamari anyone?? :rotfl2:

Another connection to the first movie... Jack said Will was a eunich to the natives. The first time he met Will in #1 he asked if he was a eunich.

LOL! On the way out, DH said, "I'm glad I've never tried calamari." They were actually serving it in the theater as part of a "Caribbean" themed menu (we have a dinner-in-a-movie type theater).

Davy Jones was a computer generated image, like King Kong. The actor Bill Nighy basically wears a special suit and does all the acting. Then the image is edited onto him.

My favorite line from the movie: "Look! An undead monkey!"

Just back and I thought it was great. I'm curious about what the monkey saw the first time they went to Tia's. I'm anxious to see it again and look more closely.

I caught that and about died when he was describing him as a guy with a lovely soprano voice!

There were so many bitty references to the first that just cracked me up!

I loved that - also "Where's the monkey? I need to shoot someone."

Before I begin my diatribe, I'd just like to say that I LOVED the 1st movie. It's one of my all-time faves. Having said that....

Personally, I was APPALLED at the way Elizabeth acted during the 3-way sword fight! Not only did she NOT watch the chest (are we lacking in IQ here??) ... but the reason she didn't was so that she could go caterwauling after the men!!! I was embarrassed for our gender.

As for the rest of the movie....

too long
if I saw another giant tentacle I was going to fall asleep! yeah, yeah, just consume the ship already! YAWN.

As for the end... Elizabeth is all "gung-ho" to "save" Jack Sparrow. Gee, that's funny....wasn't she the one who condemned him to death?

I was exceptionally disappointed in the character development in this film. They all seemed to become either sappy (ie --- William Turner who says "How could you whip me like that, Dad?" in one scene -- to swearing he'll save his dad in the next --- WHATEVER!!) or empty in the moral-reserve department (ie --- see Elizabeth's "boo-hoo" moment above).

And is it just me, or is the cute little dog (from the prison) dinner for some cannibals? Ahhhhh.... Family entertainment at its best.

We had a hard time understanding Tia too. Not just the accent but the "breathy" way she spoke. I wonder if there is a transcript you can read.

I thought that was Diodonia (sp) or a name similar.

The first time they went to her house (right after the monkey sat on the boots) Jack picks up Barbossa's hat and holds it for awhile.

We couldnt' understand Jack when he said the name, I said Tia because I thought that is what others here were calling her. You are probably right.

Whoever she is- we couldn't understand her. :teeth:

Someone on another board said her name is Tia Dalmo (or something like that)

Ah. Well that would make sense then.

I guess I am in the minority because I really didn't care for it. I loved the first POTC, and I had high hopes for this one. There were certainly scenes I appreciated, and I still love the chemistry between the three main characters. I just didn't have fun this time. I thought Davy Jones and his men were too dark and disturbing to even look at. I also didn't find as much humor in this one. I think this is a one time only viewing, and I am hoping for more from POTC 3. I think they need far more of the 3 main characters interacting together.

Not for me, I can't get enough of the three! :)
