Well, there isn't one yet on the first page, so I'll start one. :)

This thread is for the spoilers and for discussion of references to the first movie and the ride that everyone caught, and what y'all thought, and so on and so forth.

Yeah, I'm rambling to get this past the mouse-over length and all that.

Okay, that's enough. :)

I'm just back from the show. Theater was *packed*. There were 4 showings, my friend and I showed up almost an hour before the first one, and ended up about 15th in line for the *LAST* show at 12:20! Wow. Everyone was on good behavior, though, other than someone having a camera and security going crazy over that.

But on to the movie...

I really enjoyed it, as I said in the no spoilers thread. I don't think it has the staying power of the first movie, but I do think it was really good. I especially loved the 3-way battle between Jack, Will, and Norrington. Who thought all of that choreography up? :rotfl: And the return of Barbosa at the end? I knew it ended in a cliff hanger, but I *really* didn't expect that one!!

I don't know about y'all, but I caught a few references to the ride that weren't in the first movie. Such as the witch doctor's cabin being just like the swamp cabin at the beginning of the Disneyland ride, complete with fireflies. And I don't remember the guy being dunked in the well in the first movie, but he was there in the second. There were the women chasing the men in Tortuga. And when Jack was trying on all the hats in Tortuga when signing on the new crew, that reminded me of the character in the ride that is balancing all the hats.

Then there were the references to the first movie, like the Governor breaking off the candlestick and wondering what to do with it. :rotfl2:

Is it just me, or did they change a few of the trailers from the movie? Like the "I'm not leaving without Jack" part? Will didn't say "never mind" in the movie like he did in the preview. Then I could have *sworn* that somewhere in all of these previews I saw someone saying "Dead men tell no tales, so kill them all", but I don't recall that in the movie?

I'll be back to see it this weekend, most likly.

So what other references do I need to watch for? :D

Wow, no one else who was crazy enough to go to the midnight showing wants to discuss the film?

Looks like you're on your own on that one! :rotfl:

But I was happy to read your spoilers We're seeing it tonight around 9pm at the drive-in so there's a good chance I'll fall asleep (sad but true.)

I AM glad to hear you liked it. The first review I read was kind of bad.

I saw all the references to the ride and the 1st movie you mentioned.

Ok, so let's talk about it!!

Just saw this thread. You are correct, the trailer cuts they picked were not the same as the ones in the movie. It actually made for more laughs for me. I don't recall the other one that you mentioned about the "Dead men..." though.

I loved the sword fighting though. I particularly loved when the three were fighting and Elizabeth was sitting there "pitching a fit"

It's hard to explain this, but the more I think about the movie, the more I liked it.

I thought the acting was even better in this one in general, and the characters really grew. Especially with Orlando and Kiera growing up and acting more, they were really more "believable" in the parts. It was so nice to them grow and the characters grow.

Because it really is a part two of three, this one seems to be the darkest one that has more building up to the end movie than the first. I don't expect this to be a great "stand alone" but OMG did they do an excellent job of making me really want to go see it again and definitely wanting to see the next one.

We too went to the midnight showing and it was totally sold out in many theaters. They all started at the same time in ours though. We got there just about 10:20 for the 12:01 show and we were about 10th in line. Lots of people and ton even dressed up for it :teeth:

Me too. :thumbsup2

The cliffhanger was shocking. I did not expect it.
Loved how Norrington came in to play. His voice is so distinctive it was obvious it was him before he came on screen.

It was much more violent than the first (not that that is a bad thing) and I don't think I'll let my 7 year old see it yet.

I am going again tonight at 7. I hope I am not as tired as I was last night.

I went to the 9:30AM movie and there was hardly anyone there. I really liked the movie and can't wait for # 3. Norrington was so much cuter in this movie. I loved the 3 way fight and Elizabeth's fit. Will and the men in the cage trying to run away was funny. Did anyone stay for after the credits? Poor doggy pirate:

pirate: DD and I just got back from POTC! It was awesome, and I CAN'T wait for #3! We considered going to the midnight show, but DD who is nine would not lay down for a late afternoon nap, so I knew she would not stay awake until 2:30am! I'm thinking there might have been some bad dreams for her if she went to bed directly after watching some of Davy Jones "buddies!" There was some imagineering going on creating those character!

I loved the sword fighting though. I particularly loved when the three were fighting and Elizabeth was sitting there "pitching a fit"

DD asked me what my favorite part was and I love the whole sword fighting scene and the run away wheel!! I just love the music!

Of course - she wants to see IT AGAIN!!

We give it 2 thumbs up from both of us!!!

I agree, Elaine -- I think the more I think about this movie, the more I like it. And I want to say the same thing happened with me and the first movie.

Mak -- *I* had "nightmares" after seeing the midnight show on it. LOL!!

So here are some questions, sparked from the movie and the IMDB boards on the movie:

Was Barbosa in the witch doctor's cabin the first time they visited? I remember that the monkey went running into the back room and seemed to find something interesting that I think was boots. Someone on IMDB thinks those were Barbosa's boots, meaning he was "alive" and hiding in the back room when the crew first came to visit. But if so, why didn't he make an appearance. And *why* was Barbosa at the witch doctor's? What connection does he have to her? (Tia I think is her name?)

What was the significance of the heart-shaped musical locket on Davy (or is it Davey?) Jones' organ? Someone on IMDB said they thought there was a second locket, and it belonged to Tia. So was Tia the girl Davy Jones loved? And interesting that the locket was the same shape as the lock on the chest.

Why did Will et al go back to Tia's after Jack's "death"? My best guess is they need another way to locate Davy's heart so Will can kill it and free his father.

We headed out before the end credits, what happened to the dog? We felt bad for him running down the beach, with the crazy natives all chasing him. :(

ROFL!!

(from IMDB)

When Falling 200 feet down a cliff as long as you go through ten bridges on the way down you will be unharmed.

A water wheel will never fall on its side no matter how many bumps or turns it makes as long as there is a three man sword fight going on inside. Or it hits sand.

A musket ball hitting a wooden keg of gunpowder/rum will automatically cause a fantastic Kraken-repelling explosion.

When all else fails, throw rocks and scream.

Dice games are confusing.

Just when you think all is going well with a chick, she handcuffs you, and leaves you for dead.

Even if you get knocked out by a metal bar at eye-level on the inside of a giant rolling wheel, when you catch up and jump back in to rejoin the fight, it will have disappeared entirely.

Always know where your jar of dirt is.

When your clothes get torn they will miraculously appear unscathed five minutes later.

The key to becoming Chief of a cannibalistic tribe is to confidentally make up funny words.

In the carribean the only thing a woman needs to do to disguise herself as a man, is wear a hat.

Huge ball-shaped cages made of bones will not come apart after long falls down cliffs unless there is water at the bottom.

On some nights, the moonlight does not affect the appearance of undead monkeys.

We went to the 12:01a too! They had it showing in 5 theaters, it was packed. :crowded:

They definitely had a lot of references to the POC ride in this one, how about the scene where you think the guys in jail are trying to coax the dog over with the keys, but then you realize they are calling Elizabeth! :rotfl:

I loved the beach scene, kept thinking how beautiful it must have been filming there. :sunny:

Annie, they cut back to the cannibal tribe and they're now worshiping the dog and he has a giant bone. Knowing what we know of what they wanted to do to Jack, it implies trouble for the dog.

I *loved* the twist on the "coaxing the dog with the keys" scene! :rotfl:

And the complexity of the 3-way fight, Elizabeth pitching a fit, and the two pirates stealing the chest right behind everyone. Then the pirates' and Liz's fight with Davy Jones' crew and their yelling "sword!" and tossing swords to each other.

I've got to go back just for that scene -- the 3-way fight up to their escape on the boat

Oh no! :rotfl: I'm sorry I missed that. We'll just have to go see it again this weekend!!

Oooh, here's a point...

At the beginning of the movie, Jack "comes from the dead" by emerging from a coffin.

At the end of the movie, Jack "dies"

Foreshadowing, anyone? :D

I thought the monkey and the two pirates (eyeball guy and his sidekick) were not undead anymore. Didn't the curse go away at the end of the first one? :confused3

I LOVED IT! I honestly thought it wasn't going to be too great because of the bad reviews...but I thought it was the best movie I've seen so far this year! Definetely gonna watch it again.

Briarmom -- If you watch through the end credits on POTC 1, you'll see that after everyone's left, the monkey jumps into the chest and gets a coin, thus making him undead once again.

Ohh, here's one from IMDB...

In the first POTC, when Gibbs was telling Will about Jack, didn't he mention something about canabals? And Jack comes back to say something about "And then they made me their chief"?

Now in this movie, he *is* the chief of some canables. Interesting.
