We took my son on this last year. The dark part and drop bothered him a little but nothing big. Loved the rest of the ride

Now this year he says he doesn't want to ride it unless he has a flashlight for the dark part. I told him that that wasn't allowed and it would bother other people. Last year we had a boat all to ourselves, so he's a little confused as to who it would bother....

My question is what about a glow stick??? Would that bother you?

I doubt that it would bother anyone. When we took DD last year and she was 4 1/2, I would make her glow stick bracelets for the dark rides. No dirty or condemning looks from anyone and no negative comments. One family asked where we got the glow sticks so they could get some for their children... that was about it. (Fortunately I had a boatload of them and could share freely!)

Personally, I don't think a glow stick would bother anybody. I know a flashlight would, but a glow stick shouldn't be too much. When I was 7, my twin and I were afraid to go on POTC out at DL. My parents promised us that we could get these pirate swords if we went on the ride and they were under $2. Lucky for me, I went on the ride and the swords were only $1.99! Just thought that was a funny story I'd share!

Last year on Spaceship Earth, my 2 yr old son got scared of the dark (yet not scared of the dark at home). We had bought him one of the Mickey toys that light up and spin, so I held the button on it and pointed it by his feet and he was fine. It was just enough light for him to see, but not enough to bother other people. I think even a small flashlight would be ok, as long as YOU hold it and aim it at his feet and don't allow it to be flashed all over the place.

I agree if the parent holds the lightsource. I have to question if the kid wants the flashlight for security or to play with.

Flashlights would potentially be rude, but glowsticks would be alright I would think, again, as long as they were being controlled by the parent and not played with by the kid.

I think a flashlight on POTC would be rude. You are not alone and yes it would bother me. The ride is designed to be best viewed in the dark and that is how I want to see it. I think glow bracelets would be ok if not waved around. If a child is that afraid maybe they shouldn't go on it.

If you are going to give your children anything to help with their fears, whether it be glow stick, flashlight, etc. Please pay attention to them when they are using it. We've been on a couple of rides where children are given these things and they end up waving them around and distracting others. All the while the parents are blissfully ignorant of what is going on.

I would say a definate no on the flashlight, but yes on the glow stick as long as it is not being waved around.
