ANAHEIM, Calif. and ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ --

First the theme park attraction inspired the movie -- now the movie is inspiring the attraction. Pirates of the Caribbean, the classic Disney theme park adventure brought to the big screen in "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," is adding new characters and features from the blockbuster entertainment franchise and debuting when the next adventure begins in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

Both the Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will close the attraction in March to complete the updates in time for the opening of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" on July 7. The attraction will re-open at Disneyland on June 24 and in Florida's Magic Kingdom on July 7.

The attraction will feature the addition of two of Hollywood's most infamous buccaneers, Captain Jack Sparrow and his nemesis Barbossa. Joining the wildest crew that ever sacked the Spanish Main, Captain Jack and Barbossa add an exciting new twist to the attraction's original storyline as they race to be the first to claim a cache of plundered treasure.

Thanks for posting this! I didn't know about the closing. What a bummer. We are bringing a newbie with us to WDW in May and now he would see Pirates. :(

I am so disappointed. I am going in May and it will be closed. :( It is not a visit to MK without it. I cannot begin to express how much I will miss seeing this attraction.

Wow! This is such a bummer.....my DH and I have a trip in the works for June, but I just told him about the Pirates closure and now he wants to change the dates until after it reopens... We would REALLY be disappointed to not ride it....

Man! Wish they had done this starting in a week or 2! We have a DL trip planned for May 12-15ish as that is when DD grads from USC in LA. Our youngest DS has never been to DL and the oldest DS doesn't remember the "original" pirates ride. Sigh!
Guess they had to close it some time, but I would have though that early spring/late winter would have been a better time. Esp. with all the Grad Nites DL does, and even the few WDW does. I would had thought that if they had closed it in mid Jan or early Feb, like now, then it would have been finished for Spring/Easter Breaks. And that would be advance advertining for the movie... maybe get them a tax break, hahah!

I am sooooo disappointed!!! That is one of my favorite attractions! We are going the first week of April and I've always told myself that one of the advantages of going during one of the busiest times of the year is the fact that there are no major rehabs going on during that time. So much for that idea.

There are several threads on this. Use the search function! :D

It should be closed from March until July 7th. A friend of mine who works there says it's possible that it will reopen sporadically for the busiest time during then. I don't know about that.
