Seeing as Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Mans Chest got the most horrible reviews EVER (I'm reading one right now in Entertainment Weekly!, They gave it a D+!) just proves that movie critics mean nothing. And I love it! I love how it proves everyone who didn't think it was good wrong.
So now I'm thinking, how I could trust any movie review? They are only opinions of that particular person and who's to say that they are correct. I think deep down, all the critics wanted to write a bad review from the get-go because "Pirates movies will never be good let alone a sequel"
So I love love love that all those people out there are probably wishing they took those words back. And I've learned to never trust anyone but myself :happytv:

Here is something I do when someone says they do/don't like something... I ask why, what was it that you thought was or wasn't good, and what other things do you think are or aren't good.... then compair those things with your own.... I've had people tell me a teacher was horrible, then when I ask what is bad about him or her, they say that the teacher is hard, well what does hard mean to you?... they have all essay type questions and three papers... hmm, well that sounds great to me! On the other hand if someone loves this new icecream then tells me it's full of peanut butter, I'll stay far away, ewww!
It's not about if they like it, but about the particulars.

btw, I happened to love POTC2, and another bashed movie, Superman Returns, and I don't care if the critics tell me I shouldn't (heck I liked Ishtar and Zanadu, two of the most bashed movies of all time) :cheer2:

I don't wish to sound rude, but just because you love a movie does not in any way prove that movie critics are biased or that they are wrong. Liking anything is a matter of opinion. Also, why would they say from the get-go, "Pirates movies will never be good" if the first one was massively popular? Pirates 2 was really just a lot of special effects and action in lieu of lots of dialogue to facilitate international release.

it's my opinion that critics usually hate the movies that are great, and love the movies that suck(with very little exceptions). honetly, it makes me wonder how they have these jobs as movie critics in the first place. but most of them time they old men in their 30's or 40's who don't want to see a bunch of girls at a theater squee over Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp(Cuz i know I did! lol) so they're just jealous.

Care less about the reviews, look at the money the film took in.

The best way to use critics is to find one that has similar interests and tastes to your own. Once you find one, use them as a reference, but still let your gut tell you whether you want to spend your hard earned money and see a certain movie.

can you find an occupation/career about telling people your opinions and have people listen. And some of these people reach star status.

Every person is capable of making their own decision and form their own opinion. When it comes to politics, major financial decisions, and health issues, getting an opinion of professionals is important.

Movies are entertainment. They are a way to bring a measure of happiness to your lives. Don't let opinioners (critics gives them legitimacy that isn't just) dictate your entertainment. They may help you choose how to be entertained (is it something to spend a full ticket price or a wait for dollar/dvd) but their opinions of the object should not control your entertainment.

I dont like the movie but I love the ride.

Actually I know a few movie reviewers, and they do tend to have some pre-determined biases when it comes to sequels. That being said, however, our local reviewer (we have several and they don't tell who reviews what) gave it a "B", so not all the reviews are bad!

Also, popularity doesn't necessarily mean a movie is good. The best example is "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Take away the involvement, and the actual movie is really, really (insert an infinite number of reallys here) bad!

Old? 30's , thanks a lot :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: Remember when 30 was OLD?!

Anyway it was a good movie to watch with the kids and just enjoy the evening. And of course DD & I are in love with Cpt. Jack, although we can't figure out why. If we saw any other man weaing eye liner and talking in a half crazy, drunk voice and running like a girl(sorry no other way to describe it), we would hightail it the other way. LOL. I guess I've joined the "Oh Cpt. Jack, you're so dreamy" club :love1:

Critics don't like summer blockbusters for the most part. It seems they want tug on your heart strings or politically charged to get a good review. :confused3

The reason many critics were dead set against the first one was because it was based on a Disney ride. (remember the other ones Haunted and Bears were duds)

Don't you love those man crushes.... my dh adores Capt. Jack

i wonder how Eddie Murphy is taking all of this Piratemania??

haha, man crushes are cute!

I have NEVER listened to a Critic about any thing! they are just a bunch of people who are paid to give their single opinion on something...NOT MY opinion! what gives them the right to say how good or bad something is for the whole world? they just burn me up! :furious: just goes to see how WRONG they can be huh? YO HO! pirate: pirate:
