POTC broken down for 90 minutes

Rescued riders were routed through a labyrinth of behind-the-scenes “backstage” hallways and a break room with arrow-shaped signs that read “Return to Park.” Five fire vehicles and several firefighters were staged just outside the backstage exit to Pirates of the Caribbean.​

Goodness… Disney should be embarrassed and guests should be frustrated and angry imho.
I mean it’s bad enough having to experience this type of breakdown which should Not Even happen.
but to then say, here’s a pass but not for the best experiences… another kick in the shins imho.

Yikes. It broke down while we were on it a few weeks ago, but they didn't have to evacuate us. Lots of rides have been breaking down lately.

I've been on a few rides that broke down. On TOT we were given the chance to get right back on it or not. That was it. But I got to see all the little details of the ride, which were there even though for most people it would be a blur. Years ago it was Mr. Toad's, but we weren't given an option to do anything. On BTMRR it was a pass to ride it again when it came back on line. We went for a ride later that night although I think it theoretically had no expiration and could have been used on a separate day.

When the ride broke down when I was on Splash Mountain, from what I can recall, we were given a multi-experience fast pass that could be used for the same tier (I forgot what that included). When ROTR broke down on us twice when we were there a couple of weeks ago, the cast member refused to give us a multi-experience pass. I ended up going to guest services and lodging a complaint. They ended up giving me a fastpass for ROTR for later for me and my family.

Edited to add - I've always had to ask for the multi-experience fastpasses in these situations. We were evacuated from Splash Mountain and even then, the cast member did not offer a fast pass.

A few weeks back we broke down on Matterhorn and has to use the elevator.
We got $25 food vouchers each and 3 multiple experience attractions. They also got DH a coke because he had a low glucose episode while strapped into the seatbelt and we couldn't access his supplies. And we were stuck for way less than 90 mins. Poor people got jipped.

Had that happen in 2019 with us. Stuck on pirates for ever. Lights on, animatronics stopped. It was actually cool to see all the backstage stuff. Surprisingly low budget wooden ramps and everything.

I’d be pissed it I was a day ticket holder though.

Yup. If this happened to me, it would be the highlight of my trip. Still waiting for a chance to ride Space Mountain with the lights on.

I've gotten plenty of ME passes in the Maxpass times but never on a ride that let me see anything backstage. Pre-Maxpass, I got stuck on Soarin' over California where they lifted us up and nothing played. After hanging for like 10 minutes, we were lowered and given Soarin' Fastpasses that a CM manually ripped from the card stock.

That would be a big fear of mine. A good reminder to stay hydrated and use the potty before going on rides. Oh, and to keep a snack on my person.

We were routed to the left when taking off from the start of Space Mountain a few years ago during EMH. The car in front of us had someone in it that was screaming to get off, but they had already launched that ride vehicle. They routed them to the right (normal way) but then must have stopped their car to evacuate them. We were already "pulling up on the lap bars" and moving forward when this happened. So the CM in that little booth must have made a quick change, and we went to the left, into a backstage area. They had to bring ladders to get us out. It took about 15 minutes, which felt long as the precious EMH time was ticking away! We didn't ask for anything but several asked for FPs, etc. They did let us circle right out into the single rider area and just get right back on the ride after we were evacuated. I didn't love that it burned some EMH time, but what are you going to do? We just rolled with it!

We have been in line for ROTR many times when it has broken down (who hasn't!?). It is still frustrating to me that they have a "one hour" rule it seems, such that they will make you stay in line for one hour before issuing a FP to return. If you choosed to leave the line prior to one hour, you lose your BG and get no FP. I hope this changes dramatically when people have to start paying $15+ per person per ride to do ROTR!!

This happened to us in June 2016. We were stuck listening to "don't be chicken" for a while before being evacuated out through lots of hallways and into backstage. It was pretty interesting to see all the areas. We were given multiple ME passes, but I don't remember exactly how many.

No, but that happened not long after our evacuation, as I remember reading about it!! In our case, it appeared to be a person who might have been talked into riding but then changed their mind as soon as the cars started moving to the right hand turn. They were screaming but we couldn't understand them, and we thought they were excited to ride (heck, I scream throughout the entirety of Space Mountain!!). But I guess the CMs in that booth could tell the person wanted off the ride, so as soon at they turned right and started up that incline, they stopped their car. That meant we could not follow them, so they turned our cars left into a backstage area that still had tracks running through it. It was actually really cool to see the backstage area!

I can't imagine climbing out of the car on that part of the ride that has the swirling lights, as this person in the article did. I do always think about this person now everytime we ride it though!!

We got stuck on Pirates for about 40 minutes in late June. We got all the way through but then were stuck by the entrance doors, with the stupid parrot screeching. They couldn't unload us for some reason. A lead was walking along the railing apologizing profusely, when some guy in our boat called out desperately, "I gotta pee!" They got a rolling set of stairs over pretty quickly after that. And our whole boat was like, "If he's getting off, I am too," and we all disembarked. They gave us each a ME pass added to our phone apps.

Yikes... the worst I've had (which isn't even bad) was being stuck at HMH in front of the dang pop-up ghost in the graveyard.

I hate that thing on a normal day, the universe wanted to remind me of that fact a couple dozen times.

If only they had had a good chunk of time -- say, almost a year and a half? -- when the parks were closed to visitors, and properly safety-geared teams could have done long-overdue maintenance, replaced worn-out parts, upgraded equipment, re-wired and re-balanced animatronics, deep-cleaned and repaired tracks and brakes and weatherproofing, tested latches and gears and systems and gates ...

Right? That's what I thought repeatedly as rides keep breaking down, going through refurbs, etc.... I mean, what a missed opportunity to completely finish all that work they generally have to shut down to do. Even if they'd had to wait till things eased up a bit and do it masked. I can't believe they didn't keep the trams maintained?!? I'm happy that they are coming back, for everybody's sake, even though we ourselves don't generally drive and park.
