Potatoes are out, Noodles are in at 'Ohana now

Is it me or does Ohana seem to be changing their menu often??

They tend to change their menu every 1.5 to 2 years. This time though they are phasing in everything instead of all at once. They started making the changes back in January.

First the wonton chips, then the sausage, now the potatoes............I'm not sure I want to eat there this September now:sad2:

Just a small comment to all those who don't plan on going back now.

You all loved 'Ohanas before right? So give the new menu a chance! You guys should at least try it once.

Think about it. When the shrimp skewers were taken off, and the potatoes and new things added people absolutely hated it. But eventually they decided that they did like those things. Change is good. :goodvibes

'Ohana has been a "must do" every trip for us since we first started doing Disney. Our upcoming May 08 trip however, we are passing. Not because of menu items, but because the last two times we have eaten there, the service was so rushed, we didn't really enjoy our meal. It's funny, neither DH nor I wanted to be the one to say it first, it's like we felt disloyal to the memory of our first trip if that makes sense. :rotfl: This trip we are only eating breakfast there.

The potatoes we all really liked. My kids may have even loved them! I don't know how everyone would like the noodle dish, although I admit it does go better with the theme. I guess it's good they aren't bringing back that nasty, tasteless rice. It absolutely stumps me when people say they miss that rice.

Wontons are nice to have back. I remember being told by CM's that the shrimp wontons left because of the danger of shellfish allergies. Shrimp were hidden, if CM's forgot to ask or warn people about the shrimp in them...could have been bad I guess. Now that they are pork, that solves any problems there.

The shrimp being on skewers vs. being in sauce is a nice. They certainly sound less messy, which is a good thing.

What I would really miss is the bread pudding. I could make myself pineapple with carmel sauce right here, the bread pudding is way more work!

The skewered shrimp from years pass were very messy actually. They had some kind of super yummy sauce on them.

I haven't been back since they took away the sticky rice and the pineapple.

Cheesy potatoes and bread pudding, while yummy, do not belong in a Polynesian restaurant. JMHO.

LoMein, while not strictly Polynesian, is definitely headed in the right direction. And that pineapple...yum.

Sure, you can slice a pineapple with caramel sauce. But think about it...can you really slice it like 'Ohana can? The Polynesian theme is what made it special.

If all of you are cancelling, I might try and pick up an ADR for my April visit.

Oh okay, that reminds me then...

Changed my mind! Feel free not to visit 'Ohanas between September 20th and October 4th. :goodvibes

So, the noodles don't have any kind of nuts in them? Yay! :goodvibes

I didn't see any nuts in them. I had read on here earlier that it was going to be a peanut and pineapple type sauce. I didn't taste any sort of peanut or peanut butter in the sauce. Definitely saw the pineapple though. I would definitely check with the chef about the peanuts or peanut sacue in the noodles.

I really liked the potatoes and was kind of disappointed when our waitress said they were gone. But the noodles were really good and not as filling which was nice.:)

I'm just glad to hear that the noodle dish isn't a peanut one! I love peanuts and peanut butter, just not with noodles or on meats or anything like that.

I loved the potatoes, but I can make them at home. I'm excited to try the new noodles!

Thanks for the info! I'm not allergic - I do like peanuts but plain, not with chocolate, not with noodles, salad, etc. I'm so weird! :3dglasses

I've never been there before so I won't know what I'll be missing with the potatoes, but those noodles sound really good!

Thats what I was going to say....we are eating there in less than 3 weeks and I am so excited about all the menu changes at Ohana

Usually a peanut sauce has a very distinctive taste. I did not taste any peanut flavor at all. I like my peanuts plain too. Definitely not with my noodles.:)

There are no wontons on the current menu. They are steamed pork dumplings, not fried wontons.

One poster posted the bread pudding is going. But, the OP said, it was still there. Where is everyone getting that the bread pudding is gone? OP, did they tell you it was being phased out? Or is everyone assuming that, over what one previous poster posted?:confused3

I saw it posted on Tikiman's website that the bread pudding is on the way out. :sad2:
