Potato Heads here we come! A May 2012 BC WDW/USO PTR! Updated 5/13

I can't even convince myself into a realistic enough delusion that WWOHP is for the whole family. So I’m just going to be honest, and I am serious here; WWOHP is all about me. Actually, most of this trip is, but I can at least pawn off some of the motivation to visit WDW on DD.

BOB_9607-522x346.jpg

As I alluded to previously, I am a bit of a Harry Potter nerd-as many are-but I'm also all about the fandom. I loved dressing up for midnight showings and read Melissa Anelli's book repeatedly (for some very odd reason I have yet to fathom). I've read the fanfiction an swear Hermione is meant for greater things than she ended up with. I've got a lot more concerning nuances when it comes to my love of HP, but I'd like y'all to read - not call the local loony bin on me.

Now saying all that, I have sincere reservations about this day-which is the main reason it’s taken me almost a week to update this PTR. I've got it all planned out and feel like the family will have a successful trip to WWOHP, but I just can't put my finger on my worries. I wonder if it has to do with disappointment; after being so immersed in the World, will this world be hopelessly incapable of measuring up to the standards? I dunno.

However, I do know where to lay blame: Friggin' YouTube.

41ff2409.jpg

All of my doubts started on a blog post that suggested visitors check out video of Ollivander’s before committing to its atrociously long lines (seems like that's the word on the street at IoA no matter where you go). So checkout I did and after fifteen agonizing minutes of tear inducing boredom, I decided to check out of Ollivander’s... I’m sure I’m being a total poop about this, but I’ve got one day (maybe only a half really with DD) to tour USO and I’m not keen on twiddling thumbs.

1.jpg

Not quite the impression I got from YOUTUBE

But seeing that video got me thinking...

It planted a seed....

And like any good revolution, discontent (actually, fear of) has settled in this Potterphile.

I feel like a traitor almost right now, but this confession is cathartic like giving into a slice of Red Velvet cheesecake after a 90 day fad diet. What it comes down to is a loss of interest almost in WWOHOP after watching videos and reading up. It’s almost like the Hogwarts of my imagination is being *******ized into this sub par version imagined. Even the castle seems minimal to me...but this could all be poor video and a hefty price tag for a couple of hours of living the pared down version of my dream.

worried_man_pacing.gif

Regardless of this new found hesitancy, I will not be sharing it with DH. He advocated so hard for me here and I just can’t disappoint so no matter what I find at IoA; I am lunatic enough to delude myself into the perfect picture of satisfaction.

So here goes...the plan for the day that may or may not be all my dreams come true...

Thursday 5/31

I will beat those dang chickens this wake up and toss the crumbs left over from my croissant at them viciously before they even think about stirring. Same routine follows, except a bit earlier because we have to drive to IoA and this journey will most likely include some sniping and perhaps annoyed silences...this always happens when we go somewhere new with the pressure of a timely arrival...it’s like the perfect storm.

Perfect-Storm-in-Social-Network-acceptance.jpg

Will arrive by 0830 in time for rope drop with about a thousand other close personal friends all waiting to ride FJ.

yay.

With DD’s stroller, granted it is a a mother of an umbrella (Chicco makes good stuff), I have no hopes of competing with the horde so my plan is NOT TO. Actually, that’s my plan for every RD - get there, get in, WALK. We may not be uber commandos, but we will make up for it with coffee-laced enthusiasm.

-IoA RD at 0900
-Forbidden Journey
-Castle Tour if we opt for single riders line
-Peruse the shops and obtain a Butterbeer
-Spiderman
-Seuss Landing: Cat in the Hat, The High in the Sky Trolley Train, Caro-Seuss-el, If I ran the Zoo (can skip Zoo if we are hungry) (Not the fish ride because I hate getting wet at parks and more accurately the later smell)
-Lunch - maybe Mythos, but I haven’t had a chance to research possibility of a reservation here. Any suggestions on where to eat? Gosh, I wish they had a handy Ressie system like WDW (score 1 for the Mothership)

This is where we start to play it by mouse ears...

If DD naps this would be ideal that way we could stay and either explore more of IoA (not really anything else there we’re interested in) or hop on over to US and try out some rides...

-Despicable Me (highly doubt this will be open *sigh*)
-Shrek 4-D
-Revenge of the Mummy
-Beetlejuice’s Graveyard Revue
-Men in Black Alien Attack
-ET Adventure
-Fievel’s Playland
-End the day exploring Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse and Curious George

**Now this second part at US can be scrapped and if it is, we will just go back to BC and swim at SAB and grab dinner at one of the plethora of options.

Since I have very minimal idea of what waits at IoA & US will be - I am guessing long, drawn out and painful - I have a feeling much of this plan will be inconsequential...If you noticed, I tried to make it so backtracking would be kept at a minimum.

Before I get called out for being overly ambitious....I know. The only reasoning is that I feel like we have a few things playing to our favor....
-We don’t have to get lockers since we will be child swapping
-We can use the singles line AND child swap for all the major attractions
-Express Pass (or whatever the FP version is called) may help for some of the lesser items like shows and Seuss and we may still utilize this benefit if the parks seem super crowded.

If I can get just the IoA portion done, everything else is bonus (sort of like the one I didn’t get last year at work)

We will eventually fall into bed after what I imagine is a crazy touring day (probably our busiest and labor intensive) and fall asleep to Madagascar on iPad - hopefully DD will dream of safaris and lions.

lion.jpg

Fine, you can have one of DD's fruit snacks, but that's it!

Since this is predominantly a darkside post, I wanted to throw some WDW into the mix....What would you love to see at WDW or What themed attractions are your surprised about being missing all these years?

1. Nightmare Before Christmas
Someone explain to me why this isn’t an awesome “dark” ride Disney is known for? I think it has such fun potential and would be a tremendous addition to the MNSSHP season. I almost thought they would come up with something as they were so merch heavy for the last few years.

Jack_Skellington_by_Zlydoc.jpg

So Emo Jack, I love it.

2. Hiyao Miyazaki
Anime is huge and it gets no spectacular than this guy here. He could be an addition to DHS and a fantastic opportunity to expand DHS’ child friendliness...Maybe even just an inspired playground??

Can't figure out is Howl or Ponyo is DD's fave - she seems to go ape**** when either one is on.

Your little girl is adorable! I love your updates so far.....very funny!

I am a big nerd myself - Star Wars, Potter & Hunger Games. I really want to go for Star Wars Weekend one year.

I think all of your plans are sounding great!

As for WWOHP:

We went back in Dec. 2010, skipped it last year but will return to IoA (for different reasons) this year. I say do it so you can see for yourself how you feel about it.

I felt the area was extremely small (they are expanding it). The theming though is really well done. We had lunch at the 3 Broomsticks: the food was good & the decor was really well done. The castle: I think they did a great job. The only way it could've been better is if they had been able to use the actual castle from the movies. But, I think they did great considering the task at hand. Just a quick tip: When we went in Dec 2010, our son was 2. But, he already knew who Harry Potter was because, again, I'm a dork like that. All 3 of us stood in the regular line to walk through the castle. My son really enjoyed getting to see it all & til this day he talks about how "he rode the Harry Potter ride." :rotfl: If you take your daughter through the regular line with y'all, they'll let one of y'all sit with her in a child swap room right at the loading part. In the room are benches & they play HP movies! When the 1st adult gets done riding, go to the swap room & the other adult just walks out & lets them know they're ready to ride. Very easy & efficient. If you knew all of this already, I'm sorry for wasting your time. :lmao:

Can't wait to hear more!

Thank you!

I really just need to check out WWOHP and not worry too much. Hopefully, I'll get some really cool souvenirs and LOVE FJ. I think DD will really like the line and details, so really that's enough to satisfy me.

I LOVED Hunger Games...even got a tear at the Rue scene. Took DH with me for date night and I swear he left nail marks where he clutched my hand.

I'm torn about seeing DHS SW weekend....actually I've thought about stopping in when the kid who played Anakin Skywalker is there - seems like a mob, but how fun! I'm at the very least getting DD a light saber so I can have it to bop her with in the future ;)

Exactly! Y'all will have fun at IoA. The WWoHP is neat to see. Does your daughter like Dr. Seuss stories? That area is also really cute & fun for kids. Reid is already asking me if we can ride the One Fish Two Fish ride again & Cat in the Hat. I would definitely do IoA. It's been many years since we've done the regular Universal park.

I LOVED Hunger Games...even got a tear at the Rue scene. Took DH with me for date night and I swear he left nail marks where he clutched my hand.

I loved the books & I think they did a fantastic job with the movie! The scene that moved me to tears was when Katniss volunteered to be the tribute & they were carrying Prim away while she's screaming & crying. :sad1:

:lmao: Love it!

Reid loves Star Wars & has been talking NONSTOP over the last 2 days about getting a light saber & a Darth Vader mask.

That broke my heart. I totally heard DH suck in a breath at that scene.

RAWR!

I totally said that with gumption and not some cheesy kitty cat looking over the shoulder paw motion.

And as I get close to the end of our week, we are headed off to the races...or Safari’s! That’s right, it’s quality time between this family and some serious critters. Which reminds me of last weeks (or the week before, if it’s more than 24 hrs in the past, I am liable to forget) Grey’s Anatomy. Anyone watch? It was the episode where that online dating chick and her boyfriend (actor is like a recurrent guest on every tv show and played one of the NERDS on Buffy) got mauled by her PET lion. And Bailey spent half the episode calling her an idiot for having a LION as a PET in her apartment...anyways, chick and online BF survived, but she ended up calling him a little ***** when they awoke because her lion got taken away because he is a LION.

Lion-Wallpaper-the-animal-kingdom-3695548-1600-1067.jpg

Sure they're cuddly, but that's a bit overboard on the shedding, ya think?

Yeah...have no idea why, but it got me so stoked for ANIMAL KINGDOM!!!!

Hakuna Matata peeps....

Friday 6/1/12

I can already foresee me dragging this day. I’ll wake up later than projected and rush the family until DH tells me to simmer down. He’ll try to “put it all in perspective” and keep me from wigging out that we are in serious danger of missing RD. I’ll shut up my whinging, but my actions will speak louder than words....He’ll ignore me and get with the program because we’ll be late!

(This is all hypothetical of course)

-Enter AK at 0910 with breakfast in hand because I am the sort of DRILL SERGEANT who is best just followed and not questioned when in the zone
-0915 My anxiety slightly decreases because although we are late, we have arrived to Kilimanjaro and depending on wait we will either ride standby or FP
-Pangani Trail after or before Safari depending on above
-FP Everest if DH interested (because I am not)
-Maharajah Trek
-Find snacks: I’d love to try some of AK’s Asia goodies because I’m all about oriental food, but DH is not so while he does the Everest w/ FP deal, DD and I will munchin’
-FP Dinosaur
-1100 (est) Finding Nemo
-Boneyard Playground
-Dinosaur w/ FP
-Lunch: While I’d LOVE Yak&Yeti CS, I think we will end up Restaurantsoraus(whose theming looks AWEsome). Flame tree is out because we live in the south...BBQ is sort of a religion here.
-Explore Discovery Island/Tree of life trails - look for Divine
-1330 (est) Lion King...we may not get this far and I’m good with Lions at this point.

We’ll go back to resort where I simply MUST do laundry or risk going commando because we don’t hang in dirty chonies.

squirrel-commando.jpg

DD and DH will get their nap and MAYBE pool time after depending on what time nap is initiated. We are sort of tight our last night at WDW because it’s Downtown Disney Night!!! (Is it crazy I am looking forward to this night most of all because of the shopping, food and beer? I know it should be the Electrical Parade, but I got souvenir cash money burning a whole in mah pocket!)

disney218.jpg

You are all MINE.

We plan on shopping till we drop for an obscene amount of candy, souvenirs and Mr. Potato Head accessories.

228202820-15182818.jpg

Pshaw.

Our ADR at Raglan Road is at 7:30 and hopefully DD will be able to teach those Celtic Dancers how it’s really done.

I’m not so concerned about sleeping early, but if we hadn’t ridden Soarin’ earlier in the week, RD on Saturday is our last opportunity....

HA HA For a Busy Monday

So DD is a mess. Remember her obnoxious Easter Disney Doll basket? Well, she guards those chicks like me and my WDW itinerary. She isn’t messing around. She knows who’s who and expects you to as well...for instance...

24071645.jpg

DH put Rapunzel’s dress on Snow White aka “Katy Perry” in DH’s world by accident and the foopah was NOT TO BE HAD. DD went and found SW’s dress (which I had not seen since the day after Easter)and absolutely insisted a switch be made.

It’s all about the little things in life....
and yes those are Minnie Mouse shades.

As a fellow Harry Potter enthusiast, I can understand the feeling of being underwhelmed by the reality not living up to your imagination. But I think you should go and enjoy it!

Totally get some snacks from Y&Y while your DH is riding EE... I do the same thing, sort of. I happen to love EE, but I don't like water rides so I skip KRR. And I absolutely do not like bird shows (birds FREAK. ME. OUT.) so I skip Flights of Wonder. While DH takes the girls to these, I grab an egg roll from Y&Y counter service then head right across the way to the Royal Anandapur Tea Co and grab the biggest sweet tea they have (the ONLY place in ALL of WDW that has sweet tea. For the love. I know many people do not consider Florida to be part of the South (it's full of retired Yankees, after all) but SERIOUSLY. It should be a written law that all food and drink establishments below the Mason/Dixon line are required to serve sweet tea. Rant over.) There's a little pathway that leads to covered seating by the water... I go down there, sit, relax, and enjoy my snack.

Your plans for the AK day sound great! I would definitely try to see the Festival of the Lion King show. It is really good. My husband doesn't normally care for the shows but even he thought that one was great. We haven't done the Nemo one yet.

I love the picture of the Star Wars potato heads. OMG! Too cute!

I've heard so many good things about Raglan Road. I really need to eat there one day.

Your daughter is so precious! :goodvibes Love how territorial she is over her dolls. And that picture of her in bed with her sunglasses on....priceless!

I'm going to do my best! I've come to the conclusion it will be fabu after my Emo moment.:thumbsup2

I saw some clips of FoW and was like...omg. Those birds could eat DD...SKIP! And the way they stare....shudders.

As soon as I read your line about the sweet tea...I backtracked and reread twice. That's like...unfathomable. It's THE SOUTH!!! I have no idea where Florida's exemption came from, but I am revoking it...and if you ever decided to run for political office, you could win with the Sweet Tea platform in FL alone.

Apparently there is a ton of awesome "character" potato head and I have never seen so many star wars options...I have no idea how I'll control myself.

I'm really excited about Raglan Road...the menu looks yum and I think the dancers will be fun! :woohoo:

I saw some clips of FoW and was like...omg. Those birds could eat DD...SKIP! And the way they stare....shudders.

I'm convinced I have some repressed childhood memory of being attacked by a bird... that's the only explanation I have for my irrational fear. ACK, I just thought about what you said about they way birds stare and a chill ran down my spine.

The saddest day of all...our last.

Jack_Skellington.jpg

Don't cry for me Disney, the truth I have never left youuuu...

Saturday 6/2/12

I am truly hoping for a leisurely wakeup...screw you chickens...

Except for one itty bitty hiccup - Epcot RD.

Now the ONLY reason I plan on going to this is if we missed ANY major attractions like Soarin’. But that’s a BIG IF and if I know DH at all (which I do) he will opt for this plan:

part-of-stormalong-bay.jpg

-Wakeup after the chickens and complete packing
-Throw suits & coverups on
-If weather permits, BF by SAB and maybe have a nice dip in the morning
-Checkout at some point and they can just stash our luggage until we are ready to leave
Is there a way to shower here if we have already checked out?

images-1.jpg

-ADR at TRex at 1130 which I am thinking about attempting to push back till one or so to have a bit more pool time

-Last minute shopping at DTD
226651177.jpg

Oh my, did I miss you last night? I shall rectify that with one swipe of DH's debit card.

-Leave WDW until next time!!! But still very excited because we are on our way to the beach for awhile where I have no itinerary, no RD’s and no ADR’s except for the one at the store for a case of beer before we arrive.

Love your last day plans. Sounds like it'll be very nice. I'm with you - I would try to push back the TREX ADR. Or maybe even a CS meal that day so you're not tied to an ADR.

The beach house looks spectacular! It'll be so nice to chill at the beach after Disney. Last May, we went to the parks for 4 days then did a 3 night cruise on the Dream. It was a great way to recover from the parks! :thumbsup2

You are not alone! I am terrified of birds also! They just seem so unpredictable - they could swoop down on you at any moment. :scared1:

And I'm also ridiculously afraid of frogs. Like I will have a panic attack if one is in my vicinity & nothing (like a window or door) separates us. :sad2:

I have tried my best to leave all Universal off my radar. Not only do I feel like it takes away from my limited Disney time, but I've also convinced myself that there just isn't enough that my kids are big enough to ride. Well maybe the timing is just off for is. There are a few more things Maya could ride this year, but James is also big enough to get upset at his sis riding things he can't. Plus, I think there are still a lot of rides neither kid would be big nough for and I want riding company for most of those! I'm determined to do it next trip- but then I see plans like yours and second guess my decision to wait.

While I like HP, I'm not a superfan. Don't hit me when I admit I have not read them. They just started coming out when I was in a period of not reading. Years of refusing to grow up were followed with small ones and it wasn't until recently that I remembered just how much enjoyment there is to be found in a book. Now, I'm not sure how I survived without my kindle but I've yet to read that series. I would like to though.

I haven't read the hunger games yet either. I just can't get myself to read any thing with children and killing. I know I'm missing out.

anyway, I do think wwohp will be really cool to see sometime. And I'm curious how your little one likes universal as a whole.

Your beach house looks amazing!

I hope you don't miss any attractions on your earlier Epcot days... 'cause sleeping in and relaxing at SAB sounds like a great way to end your vacation! Well, the Disney part of it, anyway.

Oh, and that beach house? Niiiiiiiiiice. :thumbsup2

This house...actually, I think it's considered a lodge, is called Elizabeth Pointe Lodge at Amelia Island. I found it cleaning out my old Conde Naste mags and thought it would be a nice change of pace from our annual Panhandle (Santa Rosa Beach baby!) trips...and when I found out only 3 hours north of Disney - well, why the heck not?! And unlike WDW, complimentary BF every day!

I went with a 1:30 TRex - DH really wants to see what it's all about since we heard rave reviews about the theming there.

I'm really excited to have a few days to wind down after Disney before we go home...I think it will be a requirement for future WDW trips.

I completely understand your POV because really, I felt similar about going initially and the lack of children's amenities. I do think there is enough to fill a day at US AND IoA for a small child, but not separately. Also, your point about one child being able to go on rides and not another is well thought out - I would hate to constantly disappoint the littler one because of lack of height :sad1:If it weren't for WWOHP and DH's insistence, we would not be going and I'd save it for Matilda's teenage/tween years. I highly doubt we will return until then after this.

I'll be honest - the first 3 HP took EVERYTHING I had to complete as they were very juvenile, but Hunger Games (even though the subject matter is rough) is truly a lovely story, but I don't recommend for the squeamish. I'm a big fan of doing what you love and enjoying time spent on anything so if HG or HP ain't for you...then grab the latest Shopaholic book and forget all about wizards and apocalyptic futures!

I hope you don't miss any attractions on your earlier Epcot days... 'cause sleeping in and relaxing at SAB sounds like a great way to end your vacation! Well, the Disney part of it, anyway.

I really really hope we can finish our must-do list at Epcot too - I don't have my plan set for that yet, but I'm working on it...and DH is talking about a day early at WDW...sooooo yay!

I went with a 1:30 TRex - DH really wants to see what it's all about since we heard rave reviews about the theming there.

That sounds perfect! My best friend & her family just took their 1st family trip to WDW this past Feb. They ate at TRex one night. She said it was one of their favorite meals of the trip! :thumbsup2

I hear of a lot of repeat visitors to T-Rex...so i think you made a good choice!

You PTR is TOTALLY AWESOME DUDE!

I mean seriously, I am loving every second of it!

So how many times have you seen Hunger Games? :crazy2:

Saw your PTR on another link and came over. We'll be at Disney World the same time as you! Our dates are May 27-June 2, and from your plans it looks as if we'll be at Epcot, DHS, and MK on the same days!

You will love Beach Club. We stayed there during our last trip, and I must warn you that you will be spoiled to how beautiful it is! :)

Can't wait to hear more!
