i have several members of my family who will spend extorniate amounts of money on items to bring home,i will probably buy the number 1 favourite of you dissers back (THE EXOTIC THE COSMOPOLITAN EERRRR IBROPRUFEN  )so with things like i imagine princess castles, lego, tons and tons of clothes and shoes ohh and hand bags oooohhhh those hand bags :faint: i could probably do with posting some of it back,my eldest daughters twins of 19 are only bringing 1 set of clothes in their suitcase apparently  but 1 case aint goona do it.so shipping say a box of clothes say 1 foot by 2 foot what would it cost and has anyone tried this

If you can do it via your weight allowance (or upgrade to get extra depending on who you are flying with) I would recommend that before sending home :)

It isn't particularly cheap and you have to factor in the potential customs issues too. We recently sent home some stuff which was bulky but not that weighty and it was $83 (though this included packing it all up properly). If I had had enough hands to carry it back ;) it would have been free within my luggage allowance. Clothes etc (especially if your DDs are old enough to carry their own cases) I would think you can do cheaper on the plane :)

Seam to rember that the customs limit was riseing next year
BTW united were charging $10 a lb we had to rearange cases to overcome paying it the outher week
Paulh

If you're flying Virgin and you booked prior to April 1st, you will have an allowance of 2 cases at 32 kg (70lbs!) per case for each person! Even if you booked after April 1st, the allowance is still good at 23kg (50.5lbs) per case per person. Add on your 6kg (13lbs) hand luggage allowance per person and that comes to quite a lot of shopping! Just ask my wife!! :thumbsup2 :teeth:

You shouldn't have a problem fitting it in your luggage unless you're going charter which of course have small allowances. I did post back a big box of My Little Ponies though and this was approx $50 airmail.

i will inform my female section of the group my findings, and if you see someone emptying clothes out all over the check in floor in march that will probably be us

We did think of doing this once but after visitng a DHL shop we found out that cheap it aint !!!!

Just a tip if anyone does send stuff back.. Find a USPS Post Office (US equivalent of Royal Mail basically) not a courier office like DHL/Fedex/UPS. Couriers will definitely charge a LOT more.

I have never had any trouble fitting all my shopping in, and believe me, I buy a lot. Or should I say, WE buy a lot!!!! Last year we had collectible toy trucks with quite bit boxes, towel rail, toothbrush holders and other bathroom stuff, a bear from build-a-bear, mickey and minnie ornaments, cowboy boots, bratz and barbie dolls still in their boxes, a disney snow globe, scrapbooking supplies, license plates, quite a few pairs of footwear and LOTS of clothes, and we still managed to stay within our limit. I don't think you will have any trouble!!!!!

Mailing parcels in the US is not cheap, whether you use the USPS or one of the courier services like FedEx or UPS. The latter are hugely expensive and even small parcels with the regular mail will be $30-$40 (and they are not terribly reliable, from my experience). If you're over the limit, it might still be cheaper to pay the excess baggage.

Not sure if this is applicable or not but my friend did this last time they were in the states and had a mad shopping trip! They fed ex'd loads of stuff home - they said because your only allowed to puchase a certain amount whilst your there :confused3 anyway they got a phonecall from UK customs and excise asking them to go and pick up their purchases as there was a problem with it. Turns out they were suspicious of the box and took a look and saw all these nice new clothes still with the labels on and charged them duty on it all :confused3

We usually take an empty suitcase and fill it up with stuff on the way home. It worked for us last time!!

How big are the things you're planning on buying? I know someone who bought a 7ft Minnie Mouse and had to buy it an airplane seat on the way home :rotfl:
