I can't book free dining until it's available to the public, but as you lucky Dis'ers with cards are booking your Free Dining packages, can you post here if your hotels were NOT available during the time you wanted? I'm trying to manage my expectations about getting the hotel I want when this goes to the general public, LOL!

Example:

All Star Music, SOLD OUT 8/26- 9/1, Standard room
POR, SOLD OUT 9/1-9/8, All rooms

Thanks to all who participate and I hope this helps others who are nervously nail-biting while we wait!

you never know.. they might have so many rooms for the disney visa code and so many for the public.. who knows..:dance3:

Why don't you just make your hotel ressie now and call back on Thursday to add the free dining.

it doesn't exactly work that way... it's my understanding that a room booked as a regular ressie may or may not be eligible for free dining, there's no guarantee... booking now does not hold that room for you under the free dining promo... to "add free dining" you have to unbook and rebook...

to answer the OP...
i found that CSR is booked solid for 8/26-30... no rooms at any price for anyone... hopefully some will open up and be eligible for FDDP...

Last year we already had our reservations booked and paid for. When free dining came out, we just called and updated our ressie with the code. No need to cancel and rebook. Hopefully it works the same way this year.

Well that would be a BIG bummer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This might not be completely accurate. I remember last year checking to see if my resort opened up. Originally it was not available, but two weeks later they opened up more rooms. Its best to keep checking. Some rooms were still available in June at most resorts. I know there may be less room due to the bounceback program, but just by the fact that they are offering free dining there must be plenty of rooms left. Wish we had someone in the know who could tell us what is really happening in DisneyWorld!

Even if someone reports that they couldn't get a room for their dates, it doesn't mean the resort is sold out.

If someone tries to book 7 nights but one of the nights is sold out, the CM won't be able to book it. There's no way to know which night (or nights) is sold out unless the CM is willing to check each date one by one.

Say one person calls in to book PC for 8/31 -9/11 but is told it's sold out. Then two other people call to book 8/31-9/4 and 9/6-9/11. If September 5 is sold out, the first person won't be able to book while to other two can.

Luckily for us the resort we like the most seems to be pretty unpopular so we seldom have problems booking it. We usually get our favorite view too, of the trash area, BUT next to the bus stop and food court and for no extra charge. We never look out the window except to check on our car in the lot any old way. :thumbsup2

I'm under the impression--and holding on to the hope--that if you have a reservation already, you'll need to call with the code (if there is one?) and ask if there are any open free dining reservations at your resort. If so, you can change your current ressie over to free dining. If not, you can either rebook at a different resort or wait and keep trying to see if any more open up at the resort you have on your current ressie.

This seems to be the way that most people I've talked to who had reservations prior to the free dining announcements in years' past say it worked for them IF there were available free dining reservations for the resort they'd already booked.

Whew, does that make sense? Seems logical that redoing a reservation would only be necessary if your current resort is sold out of free dining packages or whatever. But you never know!

Well, I think several PP's are both mostly right about existing reservations converting to FD when it's offered. You have a ressie for your property and dates of choice, and when FD is offered, your TA checks availability for that package at that resort for those dates, and if available, applies it to your existing reservations.

So, technically, no, it doesn't help to have a ressie on hold hoping for availabilty when FD comes out (in fact that may backfire if WDW thinks the hotel is approaching max occupancy b/c of all the rooms on "hold"). But it is a simple process for the TA to update your ressie with the package discount if available without cx'ing your existing reservation and rebooking.

FYI - I tried to book CSR for dates from 8/26-30 and it was sold out even before FD is offered. Must be a convention? No standard and no premium rooms for those dates.

I know it's a needle in a haystack for perfect matches but it still helps me plan and something to read while I bite my nails, LOL!!

just tossing out a random thought:

wonder which cat's are MORE likely to sell out (based on history)?

my first thought would be Values would sell out quickly... fewer rooms "held" for the promo, thus causing people to "upgrade" to a higher cat room (larger profit margin)...

I'm planning on booking the Poly Concierge Lagoon View when it opens up to the public.... if it's available, if not, I'll pick something else and keep checking back until we check in!

There is really NO DOWNSIDE to FREE dining! Just be flexible!

Rumor is there are very few deluxe rooms being made avaialble. If the rumor is true, then expect them to sell out first.

and see, the rumor i heard is that the deluxes are the category that will be offering the *most* rooms for the FDDP promo this year... whatever the case, it's disney, i'm sure we'll all find resorts we can live with!

remember, the disboards represent a small percentage of disney world vacationers and we'll be calling at 7am on monday and thursday, long before the rest of the future vacationers even know the promo exists! heck, most people haven't even read their paper/seen the ad by 7am ;)

Not sure how many deluxe pakages but if we are flexable most Dis'ners should get some decent packages.

Oh, I agree with you on that, as long as people are flexible with their resort choice and/or travel dates they should be able to get in on the deal once it opens to the public. LIke I said in an earlier post on this thread, it's my understanding that one of the deluxes has less than 100 packages available in total, and another resort might not be participating at all.

I get my information from a very reliable, highly placed inside source at WDW--and no, I'm not tellling all I know. ;)

Time will tell.:hourglass

There will be some that will book in haste, then plans will change. If you don't get your date and resort of choice, I would keep calling. People change their minds for all kinds of reasons.

I spoke to a very nice cast member yesterday who told me to call on monday and they would make the adjustment to my package, since I've already booked. If this helps anyone. They also told me to make all my ADR's before this is released to the public on the 12th. That way it would be smooth sailing for us. So I took his advice and made all my ADR's today. I got each one no problem, and for all the times I chose. Yes I will be on the phone at 7:00a.m. EST. Even though it will be 4:00a.m. PST for me and I have to be at work at 8:00a.m. But like some of you I also heard the packages would be limited. (Rumors? I guess we will soon find out.)

I could've gotten a standard at AS Music, but since I was going to be saving 525, I decided to spring for the extra 135.6 to get DD4 a "Buzz" room! I'm going to be second guessing this decision till we come home from the trip. Oh well, saved almost 400! Woo Hoo!

My agent mentioned, in passing, that POP only had standard rooms available and might not for much longer.

If you cannot get what you want come on over and join me at the SPORTS. I do not know why it is not popular as we like it there and have never had any problems but then we cannot hear well and I love kids. :cool1:
