To ALL you experts, I need to know if I have done something wrong? We are very new to all this and was called yesterday by a good friend who had recieved a post card with a pin number on it to book a deluxe room. We had exsiting resseies at POFQ and when we called and asked if we could upgrade to a deluxe with this pin number the CM gave us a GREAT rate at WL.

My questions is did we do something wrongby using the postcard our friend recieved? She and her family cannot go back to Disney and she thought she was doing something nice. The CM member never asked what name was on the card and just pulled up our reservation number we already had. We were not told to bring the card with us either. Do we need to do this?

All advice is GREATLY needed and appreciated!!!

Yes. You are supposed to bring the card with you. As I have read, if your name is not printed on that card, you will be charged rack rate.

The PIN number is the activator not the mailer AND I got one too. We couldn't use it and I do know better than to pass it on, BUT when I asked about it, I too was told I didn't need the mailer, JUST the PIN #. There is NO requirement to bring the card according to reservations.

Now, as to whether or not you did anything wrong--that's not for me to judge since I'm not your conscience, the judge, executioner, or Disney. If CRO said it was okie dokie, then I'm staying out of that one! :D

Your name is the one suppose to be on the postcard. If it is not, they will not except it at check-in and you will probably be paying rack rate.

I would call back and switch it back to the way it was.

Normally they check to see the name and pin number match...in this instance they did not.

Normally also the card will state that it is not transferable...it may be your friend got a new code rate that is out and is transferable - without seeing it I wouldn't tell you to call and change back.

Here is what I would do...I would wait until I got my confirmation in the mail...if it says you need the card upon arrival then you may have a problem.

If there is not a designation on the confirmation that you need something at check in; then you are fine.

I've used cards not addressed to me many times without any problem whatsoever. The cm's knew this when making the reservation. ther should be no problem.

If I were you, I'd call and tell them exactly what you said here. You used a code from a friend, then realized later there "might" be a problem. Have them double check and if they say ok, you're ok. I'd definitely note the date and time of the call and get the name of the CM you speak with.

There are too many different answers on this board to ever be able to be sure by the responses you'll get here. I wouldn't take the word of anyone but WDW on this.

GET the card. See what is says. See what it says on your confirmation. Most of them say non-tranaferrable but some don't. I'd say if the confirmation doesn't tell you to bring a post card or doesn't otherwise mention something that you don't qualify for I'd would take my chances. Disney is not even checking when they are supposed to (AP discounts) I wouldn't expect them to check for something that's not listed on your reservation.

You didn't do anything wrong but Disney isn't always backing the guests when CM give incorrect discounts.

Hi All :D
I am a new user & this is my first post! I have a question on this - how do you receive a postcard in the first place? We are planning a trip in Nov & I would love to get a discount on our reservations. Just curious.
Thanks for the great info you all provide here. This is a wonderful resource.:wave2:

That is the great unknown. There is no rhyme or reason on who gets a postcard.

I just got a postcard with a PIN # also (actually it was addressed to my mother's name -- she doesn't even live here!) There is nothing on the card saying you need to bring the postcard with you when you check in. :)

I would be very worried. The could easily deny you the rate because it's not in your name and then you'd be stuck paying full price.

They have always verified the name and address on the card when we've had one.

You do not need to the postcard when you check in. I have been told that many times and have never been asked to see a postcard. What I have experienced is that the name on the postcard had also better be on the reservation. When you call to make a reservation they always made me put the postcard name on the room. I used a postcard in my mom's name and had to add her to the reservation. When we checked in they immediately asked for my mom's drivers license as ID that she was the one issued the postcard.

We used a postcard in 2002. That was before I knew about Disboards and how rare a postcard was. Granted the postcard was addressed to us, but I don't think the CM ever asked for the name on the postcard, and we certainly didn't bring the postcard with us.

Just my opinion, but I think you should be fine.

If there was something linking the specific pin number you gave them to a name I would think the cast member would have questioned you about it while you were making a reservation under a name that was not the original post card holders name.

A postcard is not like an AP where it could possibly be activated after you make your reservations. They already sent the postcard to your friend meaning somewhere in the vast Disney abyss they must already have your friends contact information. If giving them a different name while using your friend's pin number didn't raise a red flag then I really don't see how you would have a problem when you check in.

I must say i've never made reservations with a postcard code and pin so I don't know firsthand. It just seems to follow logic.

And btw, whether this works out for you or not (and I hope it does) I really don't think you should feel bad about it. It's not like you did anything unethical. You were just tryin to take advantage of a discount like everyone else on these boards.

I just called about the postcard I received today. The CM asked for the PIN # and my name. The card I received had my mom's name on it, but my address. The CM said as long as it was the same 'family' at the same address the PIN discount will go through. I don't know why my mother's name was on the postcard, she has never had a reservation under her name..and actually never been to WDW with us. She was supposed to go two years ago but didn't make it because of health reasons.

Go figure.

To be on the safe side and save you from any surprises at checkin I would call back and explain. The cards are actually not transferable, unless as stated it's the same family address or name.

Unless the neighbor was going to be with you, technically you can not use the discount. It's possible CRO will catch it later on and this could present a problem.

Simply tell them what you shared with us and you will get the necessary answers you need, here we can only give you opinions not facts.

There is possibly some very small print on the card that says nontransferable.

I used a post card last year, the post card was addressed to me at my correct address, but my name was my previously married name....which is strange because as long as I have lived at my present address I have been remarried.
When I called to make the reservation I was asked for the PIN and my name and I explained the name difference, and there was no problem. I was told to bring the post card with me which I did, but I was not asked for it when I checked in.
