Post about your pets

I love seeing all these pictures! What adorable faces on them all :goodvibes

After 10 years with only fish as pets we finally brought home a puppy last August, he is a Jack Russell and is now 7 months old. We named him Dash after the boy in The Incredibles. Here is a pic of the day we brought him home

He is quite the little handful and very loved! He loves to chew, so we quickly learned that nothing can be left out, not even for a moment. I took this pic yesterday, DD has been home sick with strep throat and had all her blankets and pillows on the couch along with a stuffed animal. She got up for just a minute and Dash cozied up to Snoopy.

I just posted yesterday about leaving him for the first time this coming summer, we've been lucky so far that where we've traveled since getting him we could take him along. I did a bunch of research today and I think I found the place we are going to use when we do have to leave him. We have a short one night trip in April, so that will be a good time to see how he likes it there...

We have two cats and one dog.

Miss Puggles is in my signature. She is about to turn 2 years old. She is one spoiled rotten pug. Stays with my sister or sister-in-law when we travel. Doesn't seem to mind a bit as they both spoil her as well.

One of our cats is 16 years old. She is a black persian named Meriweather. When we went to Orlando for 10 days in November, we boarded her for the first time ever. I was so worried about her, but she loved it. Our other cat is a 9 year old himalayan. He is so sweet. His name is Sassy. Not a very masculine name, but Santa brought him and DD wouldn't hear of naming him anything else. (she was 4 years old at the time) My niece took care of him at our home while we were in Orlando.

Our first vacation since having a dog was after we moved here and I boarded Princess, she did pretty well. On top of the boarding, I had a pet sitter come in each morning to tend to the cats and other critters. It was quite pricey between the two.

This past summer when we went to PA on vacation, I hired a house/pet sitter. I found a great college age girl, who works part time and attends classes who stayed in my home (I found her through a house sitter referreal service) - you would not believe the people who do this so they can see the country - this girl was local which I liked, as I could meet her ahead of time in person) and cared for my animals, and my house. She charged only $20/day, and my animals loved her, and my house was not left empty.

She will be staying with them all for one night next weekend. I work from home, so my dogs are very attached to me, and the thought of just having someone come in and let them out several times while we are gone breaks my heart. They are used to having someone to sleep with! They are so very spoiled.

I use the pet sitter if we are going to be on day trips and will be gone longer than 9-10 hours, and have them let out about halfway through the day. The little one will pee in the bathtub - but Princess will no way go in the house.

ohh everyone has such adorable pets  Scout has many of the same tendencies as everyone else has mentioned.

I got Scout my senior year of High School he was bron on Jan 15, 1999 and we brought him home March 10. He is a pure bred lab and he is so loveable. At the time we had another dog Rocket (RIP) who was part of the same blood line as Scout (he was Scout's uncle).

Scout loves to hunt in the fall (ducks, geese, pheasants, etc) and as of late he has been busy in the mornings try to chase a fox around the open field. He loves a good chase especially if his half brother Zeus (my brother's lab) is involved. He is really fast and constantly wants to play fetch with tennis balls and sticks when he is out on walks.

He loves toys especially the Migrators bird series and Plush Puppies (I saw a PP in someones pic). He really enjoys treats as well Pup Corn and a visit to the pet bar at Pet Co are two of his favorite things. Yesterday in the mail we got the cute Disney Pets dog bowl and treat canister from Disney Shopping. He always appreciates a good tummy pet and some good old fashioned wrestling. He really likes to play hide and seek and is a good hider, but not the best seeker.

Scout loves to sleep in peoples laps, on beds, and on the couch (although he isn't really allowed on the couch). Here are some pics:

We have two 8-year-old cats - sisters named Beatrice and Rosalind - named for two of Shakespeare's greatest female comic heroines (in the words of my DH who named the kitties). DH adoped the girls as kittens from a farm, and he is truely their "daddy". He loves telling about how when they were kittens they would climb up him like a tree and perch, one on each shoulder, purring in his ears, and how at night they would sleep with Rosalind curled up on the pillow next to him and Beatrice sitting on top of him and it would be a "purr symphony". Rosalind has a special meow and purr that she only does for DH, and he is the only one who can always pick her up and hold her for hours. Ros will tolerate other people picking her up, but she usually doesn't like to be held unless she's initiated it. She loves to sit on laps, though.

Both of the girls are friendly, affectionate and playful, but they have some distinct personality differences. Rosalind is a snuggle bug who worries more than her sister. Ros needs security - if she can't find either DH or myself, she cries and then goes and finds her Dilbert doll (known as Mr. Dilbert in our house) or her sister or both. If one or both of us are home but not sitting still and she decides she needs to be snuggled, she starts to get into trouble - mainly by eating things that are not actually food. At the sound of curly ribbon being curled, Rosalind will come racing into the room and try to eat the ribbon. She also likes to chew on plastic bags (especially chip bags), string, rubberbands, twist ties, and anything resembling ribbon. Rosalind is also the talker and will narrate her activities and express her emotions very verbally with a wide vocabulary of meows and growls and chirps.

Beatrice is also known as "Queen Bea", "Lazy Bea", "Chubby Chub Girl" and "Spherical Kitty". She's larger than her sister and much lazier. We like to say she's "voluptuous" rather than fat. ;) Beatrice has been known to stay in the same spot on the bed ALL DAY, and then protest when she has to move to make room for us. Bea is bossy and gets very upset if other kitties come into "her" driveway, porch, yard, etc. Our cats aren't allowed outside, but Beatrice sure does her best to tell the outside kitties to scram. Beatrice is also our night-owl and the pouncer. She thinks the bathroom is her own personal playground and especially enjoys shredding/unrolling toilet paper and clawing up the shower curtains. Bea has the softest, prettiest, whitest tummy of any cat I've ever seen, and she knows she's pretty. She loves to show off her tummy and have it petted by anyone and everyone, and she also flirts with herself in any mirror she can see. We have to turn one particular mirror to the wall at bedtime or else she spends the whole night posing in front of it, reaching out and gently touching the other kitty in the mirror, rubbing herself up against the other kitty in the mirror, purring at the other kitty in the mirror...

DH is always saying that the girls are "soft and pretty and good". They are always soft and pretty - but not always so much "good". We adore them anyway!

What, no more?? :confused3

Sure!

The three sleeping beauties here are (from left to right)...

Little black dude is Houston. He is a rescue, and is approx. 4 months old now. He is just a sweetheart. He is a Lab/Terrier mix they believe.

The gentle yellow giant is Chad. He also is a rescue. He is the most laid back loveable dog!

The third is our chocolate Lab Cocoa. We raised her from a pup. She is gentle, but she is also our "brat"!

At least in my house! All three are girls (I have two female horses, too... but they're called mares!)
Serena: our "first born" yellow beagle-something girl that I found on the side of the road 10 years ago... she's smart and loves DH
Lucy: Our true "beagle wanna-be"... came from the Humane Society. Hasn't gotten off my sofa in 8 years... snores too
Holly: She was at Animal Control (the pound).. had been found eating out of a garbage can. She's a snuggle-bunny and loves everyone.

They all get along great! And they all sleep in their own beds (in our room!)

Here is my adorable kitty Domino:
keekee2.jpg

His name is Domino because he has four black spots on his back in an almost perfect rectangle shape. Just like the dots on a domino!
I adopted him from my Aunt's next door neighbor who had a big litter of kittens and nowhere for them to go. Domino is a loving and playful little boy but he is really only like that with me. He is afraid of any guests that come to the apartment and sometimes he can be a bit mean.
He's still my little buddy though. He loves to play with his toys and he even gets them out of the toy basket by himself! His other favorite activities include sleeping in the bathroom sink, begging for treats, watching birds through the window, and laying across my legs.
Here are a couple more pictures!

Well with 16 cats this would turn out to be a rather long post  so I'll just tell you about Chester, the boss cat.

About 10 years and 11 cats ago, I decided I wanted a orange short haired cat. I called one of the ASPCA shelters in Massachusetts, conveniently located in my town, and went over to see the orange cat they told me they had. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I thought I'd just walk in and take that cat. The cages were full of mostly adult animals all crying for attention. As I went from cage to cage suddenly a paw shot out, snagged my coat and pulled me over. In it was a very handsome large male cat. His story told of a cat who had probably been dumped or abandoned near an apartment complex. He was noted for diving through doors to get into the main building and then waiting for just the right moment and flying into various tenant's apartments! :rotfl: This had gone on for quite a while but finally someone had enough and brought him to the MSPCA. His name was Chester.

I moved on and found the orange kitty they had told me about. We brought him home the next day and named him Rusty.

I went back to the shelter a few days later and offered to help out. I did some volunteer photography for them. Every week I'd take pictures of one dog and one cat and they were the pets of the week. Then I'd put their pictures up in various stores in the area. Chester was still there a week later and I always made it a point to go over and talk to him. I also made him the Cat of the Week.

But a week later, he was STILL there. I found myself trying to talk people in to taking him but without success. Adult cats have a strike against them when there are cute fuzzy little kittens to be had. :(

The weeks went by and I made Chester the cat of the week at least 2 more times. During that period we also brought home Jasper, who the husband just had to have

and April

who had just been put in the adoption room and I took on the spot!

Week 5 of my volunteering came. When I got to the MSPCA, one of the other volunteers pulled me aside and told me that Chester was going to be put to sleep for scratching a visitor. He'd been in a cage for 5 weeks and was cage crazy, a term they used for cats who had been there for too long.

I took one look at the other volunteer and said, oh, I don't think so. Chester left with me that day. :thumbsup2

He's my dog in a cat suit.

He keeps this mob of cats in line and no one challenges his authority.

He is one of the most amazing cats I have ever owned. While he still liked to dive through doors and will even give me a little love bite from time to time, it was a happy day when we brought Chester to our home.

Here is my little adorable Weimaraner Holly! She is now 4 months old! We got her almost immediately after our 9 year old Weimaraner was killed while he was being boarded while we went to Disney World in December last year. It was a tragic, awful accident that I still blame the kennel owner for. It was one of those things that nobody anticipated. He was mauled by 3-4 other dogs while they were in the play yard. The kennel tech couldn't get to them fast enough. He had severe gashes/wounds and he only lived about 16 hours after the attack. What a thing to come home to. What a thing to be told while we were waiting for our reservation to come up at Alfredo's in Epcot. It was a very, very sad day in my family's life, to say the least. :(

So....Holly is very special to us. She helped fill the void that Shiloh left behind.

Here she is at 7 weeks of age the day we brought her home:
