We've had Netflix in the past and enjoyed it, but one thing I didn't like was only having one queue for the three of us, and not knowing whose movie was going to show up next. Short of each of us having our own Netflix account, is there any way to set up separate queues within the same account?

TIA!
Terri

DH and I have separate queues. I don't remember how I set it up. They threatened to stop allowing us to do this, but then left it as is. So I am not sure if we were grandfathered into it and they no longer allow split accounts?

They were going to go back to one que but people got so upset they left it as is.

You each can have your own queue. On Netflix, go to the "Your Account & Help" page. Scroll all the way down, and there's a gray box that says "Preferences". One of the links there is "Account Profiles". From there, you can add profiles for the 2 other people in your family and decide how many DVD's they each can get per shipment and what type of movies (G, PG, etc).

After you get each of you set up with an account, you can toggle back and forth between the 3 accounts/queues by clicking on your name at the top of the screen, and it should turn into a drop-down box with the other 2 names on your account. :thumbsup2

I knew you guys/gals would know! Now I'm willing to reenroll since I know I can get a few of *my* movies;). If only their website was more user friendly...(good thing we have the DIS!).

Thanks again!!!!

I'm lucky I don't have that problem. DH just watches whatever I have come in if he's interested. Shows like The Shield, Law & Order: SVU, and Heroes Season 3 is just for me. (He's already seen season 3 of Heroes). Other shows like all the Star Trek series, Leverage, CSI: Miami and New York. We watch together.

OK, now I have a question.
We use one account. We've both rated lots of movies, but have very different likes. Because of this, I often receive recommendations for movies that DH liked, and I didn't like. Drama, murder.....

Since I can now set up a profile for him, is there a way to go back thru the movies we rated, and assign his to him, and mine to me? So we each get recommendations for movies we actually would like.

Years ago I sent a suggestion to Netflix about this, and then a year or so later it became an option. I'm sure mine was one of hundreds of letters, but I like to think someone read mine and thought it was a good idea.

His profile will be a clean slate. Yours will be what was there, but you can always change what has already been rated.

I think one reason why they wanted to get rid of the multiple queues (besides the obvious -- it made it easier for people to violate the terms and conditions of the agreement and effectively share a membership with another household) was because it resulted in people having smaller queues. Smaller queues are bad for Netflix and BB Online, because it means that it is much more likely that people will either have to wait extra days for something on their (too short) queue to come available, or will end up getting items far closer to the bottom of their queue more often. It's perception, of course, but perception is everything in a consumer market situation.

Only the main profile has the ability to watch instantly.

This is extremely annoying to me because I would like to set up my kids with a watch instantly queue. As it's set up now if they want to watch something I have to switch over to my profile and then search for a movie/show they want to see rather than just having some of their favorites already selected. (In the secondary profiles you can't even see what movies are available to watch instantly, so I always wind up putting movies on their mail queue and then finding out later that they could have just watched them instantly. :headache:)

I have called to complain, but "that's just the way it is".

Wow, I've learned so much, glad I asked!

Off to add more to both of our queues (and flip for who gets to watch instantly).

Terri

Our queue is so long that when a movie comes in we cannot remember who added it. Sometimes after watching, neither of us wants to own up to it! :)
