(Possibly) Silly Question

So I am a long time Disneyland AP, and I am planning my first trip to The World since they have started this magic band/ fastpass + stuff. For our tickets, my wife and I will be upgrading our DL APs to Premier passes good on both coasts. I will not be staying onsite because we are bringing our 18 year old niece, and getting a two room suite is WAY out of out budget if we stay onsite. My question is this- if I want to get fastpasses and maybe use fastpass +, will I need to get magic bands, of can I just use my AP?

Regular FP doesn't exist in WDW anymore. The only way to get a FP is FP+. Not sure on the rules for AP's, but I am pretty sure you will be able to book FP+ each day in the park. Limit is 3 a day in one park only.

I have an AP and recently received an email that they are going to start inviting some AP holders to participate in testing for FP+ and Magicbands, but at the moment you can only get FP if you are staying onsite.

If you upgrade your DL AP before you leave, you MIGHT be able to schedule FP+ for up to 7 days -- I say might because it depends on when your trip takes place and when the roll-out to all AP holders occurs. But as it stands right now...you don't have WDW tickets nor are you staying onsite, so absolutely no way to reserve in advance. If you so choose, you can wait and reserve your FP+ choices once you enter the park each day -- which is also what you'll need to do for any members of your party who might not have the AP (I'm thinking your niece).

You only get a MagicBand if you stay at an onsite resort.

Well, thanks for the help, everyone! I think that even if I could reserve FP's in advance, I won't do it because there would be no guarantee my niece would get the same ones as us when we go each day. I'll just play it by ear. I'm thinking it won't really be an issue, since are going at a very slow time of year. Heck, a Disney vacation without fastpasses is certainly better than a vacation to and Six Flags or Cedar Fair park!
