Possibly More info on the Contemporary Rumor...

If you calculated the dimensions from the figures printed along the bearing lines, I think you're misreading these surveys.

The lines from the Point of Commencement to the Point of Beginning are just survey shots to locate the area of construction for the new gates.

I think these drawings show exactly what the permit states, "Enhancements to Cast Parking". It appears to show two new gatehouses for the cast lot, although it could be a set up for a construction lot. :rolleyes1

BTW, these gates are shown to the right of World Drive, where it enters the backstage area.

In searching thru the comptrollers website, I did come across these permits:

New heater for the pool at OKW.

New security camera system for the gatehouses at SSR.

New cedar shingle roofing for the lower roof at VWL.

One other note, all three of these permits were for DVC or DVD, the gate permit was for the Walt Disney World Co. :surfweb:

What?? No new roof tiles for BCV?? :guilty:

I agree, but, the Pizza thing IMHO is more of a risk!

In fact, if you look at the picture I posted below it looks like the opening is less then the length of the Contemporary. So, what is that 200 yards? 300 Yards?

You could also build up the land on that portion between the old River Country and the island and then build a road and disguise it with tree's and landscaping.

Wow the map is incredible. You can practically see people walking around. Now I have a great place to go to see WDW from the air.

You guys have it all wrong. Yes, the next DVC will be a pirate themed Discover Island. But there won't be any big construction costs or maintenance issues.

Basically, one DVC owner gets marooned each night on the island. All that is supplied is your choice of a Johnny Depp or Keira Knightley look-alike CM, a whole bunch of rum and a bonfire. The next morning you get rescued and another DVC'er takes your place.

Points/night have yet to be determined…

Well, I did hear a rumor at the lumberyard today. It seems Certainteed has scheduled a major press event for October. :lmao:

Hope I see some "tell-tale" signs when we stay @ CR next month:magnify:

We stayed at VWL the end of August and took to boat over to CR for dinner. There were no signs of life at the North Wing except for two large birds sitting on top of it. I believe they were buzzards! (can it get any more 'tell-tale' than that?) :lmao:

I just really think it is going to be in October and I think it will be Contemporary and AKL.

Contemporary has pretty much finished rehabbing the resort except for the North Wing, there would be no logical reason to have left it, unless something else is planned for it. They would have ordered all the materials, beddings etc when they did they rest of the resort.

AKL, there are simply too many Savannah rooms at this resort not being booked. It is the Contemporary of the AK area. Both of these resorts are the least popular in bookings of the Disney family, and what better way to promote usage and revenue to restaurants etc. than to put DVC in there. DVC brings revenue to a resort year round.

Also it saves DVC money to connect to an already exisiting resort than to build a new resort from ground up. I was told many times when AKL was being built that infrastructure for an addon DVC resort was laid at the time it was built.

Time will tell.

I hope you're right, Sammie. But even if they are announced simultaneously, it doesn't mean they will be built simultaneously or even sold simultaneously. I'd say VCR first, then AKV.

An "add-on" at AKL isn't going to solve the problem of rooms sitting empty. It would have to be a conversion.

Just saw on another board that the announcement is going to be for a Pirate themed DVC built on Discovery Island with parking over near the Contemporary Resort. Transportation to and from the resort by pirate ship.

I don't think this one is going to happen.

But I would like to see a DVC built in California near DL/CA.
This would be great.

based on information I was given yesterday, I am having doubts about the Contemporary. They are planning on going ahead with the North Wing rehab and I just can't see them putting that kind of money into that area, to tear it down for DVC.

Something happened to change their focus from Contemporary to AKL. What, I have no idea.

Or, teardown of the North Wing was never part of the plan, and the renderings posted online were just a red mouse, er, herring. :confused3

OR... they are trying to distract us by floating a rehab story when it will actually be a demolition.

I do not believe 'They' are passing any rumors, only members and CM's (picking up their own rumors), are passing rumors. :dance3:

As long as they give me enough rum to start my own rescue signal... ;)

"Yes, but why is the rum gone!?" pirate:
