I noticed on the comptrollers site that the Contemporary has contracted to put up new gates. Approximately 1384.9 feet in one drawing, and 1804 feet in another drawing. I'm am by no means an expert in reading these drawings, so I don't know exactly where these are supposed to start/end/encompass. I do know though that it is going on to the North/North east of the CR... and it seems like a lot of gating to me.

Feel free to check it out at the comptrollers website... File #20060573192

I'd imagine it will begin very soon (if not already) as the notice to commence expires in December.

Enjoy! :thumbsup2

no more talk about the "new DVC at the Contempory".

You are going to convince my dh to buy points. :woohoo:

What are you trying to do to me? :rotfl:

I am not sure that we have enough vacation to be at disney & at our marriott timeshares.

If you calculated the dimensions from the figures printed along the bearing lines, I think you're misreading these surveys.

The lines from the Point of Commencement to the Point of Beginning are just survey shots to locate the area of construction for the new gates.

I think these drawings show exactly what the permit states, "Enhancements to Cast Parking". It appears to show two new gatehouses for the cast lot, although it could be a set up for a construction lot. :rolleyes1

BTW, these gates are shown to the right of World Drive, where it enters the backstage area.

In searching thru the comptrollers website, I did come across these permits:

New heater for the pool at OKW.

New security camera system for the gatehouses at SSR.

New cedar shingle roofing for the lower roof at VWL.

One other note, all three of these permits were for DVC or DVD, the gate permit was for the Walt Disney World Co. :surfweb:

Well darn... I guess I need to take a class on reading surveys (and titles of projects). I didn't even see the project name in the upper left.

BTW... we are only 2 days from Oct 1st... wonder if those "new" announcements are really coming!

As a side note...did you see how many leans being placed on BCV owners for not paying their dues!! I was amazed! Dunno what it is with the BCV owners...maybe refusing to pay until they get nicer furniture and replace the ugly carpets? :rotfl2:

***Disclaimer*** I am not an engineer, nor do I play one on the DIS. :stitch2:

As for announcements, in wandereing the web in the last week, I've seen info for "official" anouncements on Oct 4, 5 (at HM in MK) and 18 (In NYC).
Could be a very informational month! :thumbsup2

I just really think it is going to be in October and I think it will be Contemporary and AKL.

Contemporary has pretty much finished rehabbing the resort except for the North Wing, there would be no logical reason to have left it, unless something else is planned for it. They would have ordered all the materials, beddings etc when they did they rest of the resort.

AKL, there are simply too many Savannah rooms at this resort not being booked. It is the Contemporary of the AK area. Both of these resorts are the least popular in bookings of the Disney family, and what better way to promote usage and revenue to restaurants etc. than to put DVC in there. DVC brings revenue to a resort year round.

Also it saves DVC money to connect to an already exisiting resort than to build a new resort from ground up. I was told many times when AKL was being built that infrastructure for an addon DVC resort was laid at the time it was built.

Time will tell.

Just saw on another board that the announcement is going to be for a Pirate themed DVC built on Discovery Island with parking over near the Contemporary Resort. Transportation to and from the resort by pirate ship.

I don't think this one is going to happen.

But I would like to see a DVC built in California near DL/CA.

Asked a couple of CMs this week and they aren't talking - just saying they know and are waiting for the announcements - The Disney Institute Tour leaders for the Innovations In Action tour we took this week said they know but value their jobs too much to tell and added in response to a question about future resorts. -- there are no plans for any future regular WDW resorts at this time but there will be more DVC resorts. This was the tour that was for DVC members only.

Hope I see some "tell-tale" signs when we stay @ CR next month:magnify:

Think AKL mgmt. got tired of upgrading folks as a matter of course; many booked the lowest category assumming they'd benefit from pixie dust.

Surprised that CR is in the "least popular in bookings" designation, with the convention blocks of rooms, we were unable to secure a room late June 6 months ahead of time (checked back shortly before trip there was still no availability).

Anyone else think they'll wait till member cruise to prolong the buzz of Oct. promo?

I had heard rumors a few years back that the Island would be turned in to a Honeymoon suite cottage deal. Which, I would think is cool - but - not planning to get married again soon! So, I like the DVC idea better.

But, how would Pizza delivery work? I guess the dude could give it to the Pirate Ship staff - but - they may pirate it on the way over! Am a bit concerned about that! Also, not sure I want to head out in the AM and have a Gator blocking my path to the pool!

My opinion on the Contemporary is that it is a Done Deal! When your marketing mantra is "Best Kept Secret" I think you would be more then interested to get a resort out there that will be seen by everyone that visits the MK!

Lastly: I am very high on my opinions and theories and have proven to be correct a solid 3.2% of the time!

I don't think this one is going to happen.
I don't expect it to happen either.

Keep in mind that everything would need to be transported over by boat, including construction materials and workers during the construction phase. That would significantly increase construction costs.

The island would need a dedicated fire and emergency services station.

It's a fun idea, but it's not practical.

I agree, but, the Pizza thing IMHO is more of a risk!

In all seriouness, I never thought about Fire/Emergency. Could they not build a Tunnel? Sure, it would be expensive, but, it could be done! If you can tunnel under the English Channel I have to think Bay Lake is a breeze!

I actually do not think they would dig a Tunnel. Rather, they would build temporary barrriers and then build a tunnel like structure on the lake bed. If you look, that Island is no more then 200 yards from dry land!

In fact, if you look at the picture I posted below it looks like the opening is less then the length of the Contemporary. So, what is that 200 yards? 300 Yards?

You could also build up the land on that portion between the old River Country and the island and then build a road and disguise it with tree's and landscaping.

If road access is a requirement - it just does not look impossible to me!

If you look at that map I posted it sure looks like that River Country property is a primo location for a resort! Weather you have some on the island is certainly debatable - but - that is Prime Real Estate I never considered until I looked at it closer.

disney quit using it because of the buzzards - are they all gone?

the little birds are bad enough - but these big things are awful.

I want Disney to finish Pop Century.... so I am hopping they will be working on hotels - at least this one - it needs to be finished....

now if they made it suites or DVC I don't care - just finish it.
