iT'S here in Central Virginia. Coming down like crazy. I looked across the pond, and told dh, gee it looks foggy out there. It was the snow, so heavy, you couldn't see more than a couple hundred feet. Stay safe everyone!!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want snow! I want snow!
I want to sit by the fire watching Christmas movies while inches and inches of snow fall. I want to drink hot chocolate while inches and inches of snow fall. I want to wrap presents while inches and inches of snow fall. I want to cuddle up with my honey while inches and inches of snow fall.
I am SO EXCITED!
I hope I don't end up with a disappointment now.![]()
We thought about going on base and hitting the commissary but realized it would be full of psycho people and opted just to head on home. We have bottled water, several steaks, hamburger meat and side dishes, so we're good for the weekend. Oh, and about 10 gallons of various juices, lol.
As someone who's shoveled a LOT of snow in her life, I have one tip that will save your back:it's only 10 am and we have almost 8" on the ground..someone, please shut it off..it would be really pretty IF I wasn't the one who had to go out and shovel it!
As someone who's shoveled a LOT of snow in her life, I have one tip that will save your back:
PUSH the snow. Don't lift it.
I typically make a "push" line down the middle of the length of the driveway (lifting and throwing ONLY when the shovel becomes stuck, then pushing again), then I work my way back up the driveway pushing the snow to either side, lifting only when I have to (with my knees and arms, not my back).
Think of yourself as a human snowplow. And take breaks when you need them - usually after 15 or 20 minutes if the snow is really wet and heavy. If it's up to 8 inches by now, I'd start shoveling even though it's still snowing. It's easier to move 4-8 inches twice than it is to move 16 inches once.
This is how I get through the winter where these kinds of storms are common.
