Hi, we have never visited Universal Studios or IOA but this September we are thinking about taking a day away from WDW and visiting one or the other. However, I am somewhat concerned that the rides will be too much for me in terms of the thrill factor. I am okay with Expedition Everest (just barely) and the mountains at WDW just for a reference but I do not do well with those simulator rides--would I be okay at Universal Studios? IOA? Would you recommend the Studios or IOA for me? My husband is worried that I will get bored while he is having his brains sloshed around inside his skull on the wild rides!

Welcome to the US/IOA boards. There are plenty of rides and shows which are not thrill rides. The only rides which are more intense than ones you'll find at Disney are the big rollercoasters, Hulk, Dueling Dragons. The Mummy isn't as intense as Everest.

There are some water rides like Splash Mountain and a river rapids ride, but you can get very wet on them! There are only 2 simulator rides (Jimmy Neutron and soon-to-be-open Simpsons ride) in the parks.

Musicmom what is that ills you? Motions sickness or nerves?

If it motion sickness have you tried the scoplamine (sp?) patches?

My wife uses them and it works wonders for her.

There are some minor side effects that you may want to talk to your Doc about but all in all she is happy with them

It would help to know what keeps you from riding to figure out which ones to avoid

Try these

WDWgypsy, it is the motion sickness and then, if my stomach feels even a little queasy, the feeling of being trapped while being sick without any way to get out. Sorry to be graphic! I would really appreciate knowing which attractions I should probably avoid at the Studios. I have that patch from a cruise that my husband and I took but it turned out that I was okay with a product called Seabands instead (no side effects). But I never got to the panic feeling because if I felt a little sick I never felt like I was trapped or confined. Thank you!

I'm a huge ride chicken. I still haven't ridden Space Mountain or Expedition Everest. In US I'll ride everything except Jimmy Neutron (I have simulator issues too). In IOA I'll ride everything except Hulk, Dr. Doom and Dueling Dragons. The Spiderman ride is a simulator but for some reason I do fine as long as I close my eyes on the down part. If your DH is a thrill ride junkie (my kids are) I would go to IOA. If you like parks that are more like MGM/Hollywood Studios I would go to US. If you do go to US make sure you see the Hollywood Horror Make-Up show. Its one of the best shows I've ever seen. I think we managed to see it four times in one day.

I have taken Jimmy Neutron off the list of things to do! No simulators for me! I have a feeling we will wind up in the Studios park rather than IOA because it seems a little milder. I wonder how it will be compared to MGM/Hollywood Studios, which is our least favorite park. Make-Up show sounds cool! Thanks for the info!

You can still do Jimmy Neutron...they have stationary seating in the front.

Really? That's a great idea. How does that work? Do you just go in and ask for the stationary seating? Just curious...how many stationary seats are there? Thanks!

Yes...just tell them you want the stationary seats and they'll show you where to sit. Shrek 4-D has these seats too.

With The Simpsons opening soon, I'll be curious to see if the stationary seating will be in there too.

Does anyone have advise on motion sickness cures? I've used the OTC stuff like dramimine but it can make you sleepy. So the behind-the-ear patches work and are they OTC? Maybe Kishashadow can help, I think I saw her wearing one in a trip report...
Thanks

Behind the ear patches are not OTC they have to be prescribed. They can cause some side effects; dry mouth and slight vision blurring are the most common. My DW has problems reading small print when wearing them but other than that does fine.

Some people swear by ginger tablets or raw ginger. Others have bands that put pressure on your wrist or use accupressure

I think the treatments are numerous. To what degree they work I think depends mainly on you.

We just returned from US/IOA, Sea World and Aquatica. I had two 16 y.o. boys and two 18 y.o. boys with me. They were expecting all these wild rides at IOA and were pretty disappointed. There are only 2 coasters there. However, everyone really liked Sea World. I know that doesn't make much sense because they only have 1 coaster, but we went in expecting just shows and exhibits. That's what made the difference. It is such a nice park. Yes, there are "thrill rides" at IOA, but just make sure your DH understands that there are only two coasters. Just a thought . . .

There are three coasters at IOA...Hulk, Fire and Ice...F & I are different...didn't they ride both sides?

Didn't realize that. I think they only rode one. The lines were pretty long, so they chose to ride the Hulk a couple times as it was "so sweet."

Yeah...Hulk is pretty cool and should always be done first since it's the first thing you see.
