Has anyone ever had any success with booking a standard view at BWV (for 1 bedroom) at 7 months out for a stay in mid June? Is it possible if it's not your home?

Anything is possible.

Not very likely though.

you could get lucky, make sure you have back up reservations at your home resort and give it a try, don't count on it though.

I think the new change of confirming BW views is going to make std view at the seven moth window even more difficult than it alreaddy is.

We just had this happen to us, so I would suggest you call at exactly the 7 month window and get put on the waitlist. We are also going during Dream Season (we're going mid-March). We called at exactly the 7 month window (for a 2 bedroom) and reserved at Beach Club, but waitlisted for a standard view 2 bedroom at BW. Within 2-3 weeks, our waitlist came thru. I was sooo incredible happy. We waitlisted for the entire 5 nites (not day by day).

I do agree with what Rich said about the standard views becoming more difficult to reserve now that members can reserve the Boardwalk views. Our waitlist came thru at about the same timeframe that this new policy was put into place.

Wishing you lots of luck!

Thanks, I am going to give it a try. Interesting, I would think that with the new policy, it would be easier to get a standard view. I thought that, given a choice of preferred views, that more people would opt for it--leaving more standard views available. I must be missing something.

Oh, well. I'll be waitlisting I'm sure.

I am a BWV member who has been booking standard view the past 3 years after booking preferred the first year at 11 months and didn't get the boardwalk view requested. My plan for next year is to try for the bw view at 11 months, if I can't get it I will be booking standard again. So, standard may become more popular with BWV members who could not get the boardwalk view. Why pay additional points on preferred-garden/pool and risk ending up with a view of the back of the pool slide or jellyrolls dumpster?

Okay, I see. So knowing what your actual room view is (and assuming all who pick the preferred want the BW) a lot will then opt for the standard. That's interesting. I guess I didn't realize the popularity of the Boardwalk view.

My first thought was that maybe Disney's goal was to make the "preferred" view more "prefarable" by giving the choice of views. I probably would choose courtyard or pool over Boardwalk view, but I guess it would depend on how many actually want that Boardwalk view. I can see then how the standard would be the backup plan for failed preferences. I wasn't thinking it out completely:rolleyes:

I just booked at standard view one bedroom for Feb!! I know you were asking for mid-June, but just wanted to show that you never know there just might be something available! We own at BWV but only decided recently to use some of our points for a Feb. trip. We wanted to save on points so we have enough for our fall trip so I was sooooo excited when they a standard view left!!!! :)

I can relate to your frustation in getting a standard room at BWV. Last December I could not get a standard room at 10 months. I had to settle for a Premium room overlooking the quiet pool and two fewer days than I had planned.

The two days that I did not get probably saved my family at least $300 to $500 that I did not spend in the parks;) May it was a good thing..... I wonder.

Can someone explain the whole view thing to me. I am really confused. A prefered view would be water or boardwalk? A standard view would be what? Sorry, I just can't get a hold of this.

Preferrred has always meant water (canal, pool. etc.) or Boardwalk. Now they have just taken that category and divided it to guarantee water or boardwalk. Standard is generally, the entrance area (which I happen to find nicely landscaped and enjoyable).

Hope that helps

Perfect! Thank you so much. Will I have a hard time booking a standard view (2 bedroom) at 11 months (renting points)? There is such a price difference you would think everyone would want this view. Just nervous that I won't have any options if it doesn't work out.

Do you think I'd be ok to book the end of August 2004 at the 11 month window but wait till the end of my stay date to call for all the days?? That would be this Monday??? Or should I call today for some of the days and then each day thereafter? I'm nervous now reading this thread that I won't get my week in a studio standard view the end of August??

That's all a matter of personal preference.

I call X months before check-out day, see what they have, and ask them to auto waitlist day by day for any gaps.

Well, I just called for the first 3 days of our trip (August 21 - 27) and she laughed at me. She said there was plenty of time.

Then she proceeded to say that I should call again Friday and then Monday for the last night.

I told her of my waitlist for this December that I've had for 11 months so I didn't want to take any chances and she said it wasn't necessary as December is worse than August.

I'm glad anyway, that I started booking the trip. I never want to have to waitlist again if at all possible!

So, does anything think I will have a hard time booking BWV standard view 2 bedroom for the first or second week in Dec. 2004? That is booking at 11 months by renting points. I know Dec. is a popular time for DVCers and also that the standard is very popular - what do all think?

I think the 11 month window will be just fine to get what you want.

Thanks so much! I actually would to be at OKW again, for the two beds in the 2nd bedroom and the extra space, but I wanted to try something new - and walking to Epcot and MGM seems amazing!!

I would book right at 11 months and day by day...I did this this past January for a one bedroom and got it but within that week we asked my BIL to go with us and when I called back to try and switch to the 2 bedroom standard view for the first week in Dec, I had to be waitlisted for it all and I'm still waiting for 2 nights.

I'm a BWV owner who has stayed during the early part of December for the past 3 years and I will be there again this year. I have been able to get standard view rooms (all sizes) by calling day by day as soon as the 11 month window opens. In my experience, the standard view rooms for early December are usually booked within 1 or 2 days of the window opening. One year, some days were all gone by noon of the first day (I know because I got the last one according to MS and that day I happened to call about 11 a.m. Eastern as I forgot earlier).

To be sure of getting what you want, you will need to find a DVC member who is willing to call day by day for you, right when MS opens (9:00 a.m. Eastern). He/She may spend some time on hold as the lines are very busy when that window opens. If he/she doesn't call right away, you will either not get your dates or find yourself on the waitlist for some or all of them. (Not all Members who rent are willing to tie up their points hoping that the waitlist comes through). If you read this board regularly, you will already know that there are several members who are still on the waitlist for early December 2003 dates.

I don't want to discourage you. Just want you to know what it will take to get what you want. It's probably not too early to start looking for a BWV owner willing to help you. Good luck!

P.S. OKW is a great place, too, and doesn't book nearly as quickly as BWV standard views. I agree that it makes a great back up plan.

Just as a different opinion, I wouldn't necessarily take the standard if I couldn't get BW view. When I go with grandkids, I like to get Main Pool, ground floor so they can get to the pool whenever they want.

Not everyone wants a view of a parking lot either. Some people would prefer the pools over the BoardWalk, too.

I really don't think it will change much at all with the new categories. Just my opinion. No one knows for sure!
