Possible Strike Action At Disney

brady961, please forgive me if I am wrong but might you be young, unemcumbered and with a good education? With those qualities you have much more freedom and many more choices than some. True, some people have made choices in their lives that limit their chances but some people have so much tenure that they are locked into their positions and have no choice but to try to improve their situation.

On the other hand I have known many who have wonderful skills but have not the courage to move from one job to another. Life is an interesting game.

I do agree that if you are not earning a living wage you should either get more education, or work your way up in your current situation or something. I believe that it is possible to work your way up at Disney by taking on jobs that require more from you though. I have friends who are CM's who have done so. I also currently have a friend who had a blood clot recently and Disney is paying all her medical expenses so that is a good thing also.

Wish my kids had listened to me when I tried to explain that education gives you more choices and make you a more valuable employee.

In the end most things work out for the best and I hope it does in this situation as well, for both sides.

I respect everyones opinions as well and am just putting the other side of the table out there.

Brady... I signed on with Disney over 9 years ago, I love my job and I love the company, my issues are that when I signed on I was Guaranteed 38 hours a week... that is what I agreed to, in the course of 9 years it is now only 32 so they are not giving me what I agreed to. I however am not at minimum wage, I am toped out and there for make enough money that between Disney and my other part time job I can afford to live.

I understand what you are all saying, but there are other issues being thrown around between the Union and Disney that have not been discussed on the boards. The money and the healthcare are not the only things that are being disputted. Your opinions are welcome but please don't pass judgment on the Union members by saying just go find another job, that is not what this is about, it is about people that Love Disney, Love what they are doing and would not want to work anywhere else asking the company to realize that what they are offering is not competitive in the Orlando market even though they say it is.

With that said THIS JUST IN direct from the Orlando Sentinel:

Report: Disney, union reach agreement

Leaders of Walt Disney World's largest union reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract with the company tonight, a Disney spokeswoman said.

Details were not immediately available.

Contract negotiations between Walt Disney World and the Service Trades Council Union continued today, a day after union leaders temporarily halted talks and, in frustration, said they would ask workers for the authority to call a strike.

The two sides have been working for eight months to reach an agreement on a new three-year contract that would cover more than 20,000 theme park and hotel workers.

Disney spokeswoman Jacquee Polak characterized the talks as productive, She said the company would continue to press for an agreement.

Walt Disney World has not had a strike since a group of musicians stopped work in the early 1980s. The Service Trades Council, with more than 20,000 members, has never gone on strike.

Workers can vote to accept Disney's latest proposal, or vote it down
