"Possible Opening Date For "Rivers of Light"

I think they will bulldoze it.

We just ate there a few weeks ago, when you were there too.

I'm sad if they have to take away things that many of us love in order to provide a viewing area for this show. That being said...I PRAY that this Rivers Of Light show is up and running by June 2015(our next planned trip).

I love the AK...and absolutely am gaga about it at night!:dance3:

The Flame Tree area is a prime spot for FP+ viewing. Hopefully, they can leave it open for lunch and just rope it off a couple of hours before the show.

March 2016? Almost two years to install a light show? Wow.
Well at least there is still two more years to enjoy that patio area!

Well, not just a light show.

They will have to drain and pave that entire part of the river to put in the water jets a la World of Color. Then they will have to tear out and widen most of the pathways around that area for viewing in addition to adding some plazas for viewing as well. On top of that they have to actually build the boats and costumes, install unobtrusive lighting rigs, choreograph the show, test to make sure all the views will be good of that choreography, shoot any footage they need, edit sound and music, hire the additional cast to put on the show, train that cast, and work out how late night closings will work for a park that hasn't stayed open late on a regular basis since it's inception.

So yeah. Two years sounds fair.

It's gonna change that whole area in front of EE isn't it? Some of the best pictures in all of WDW is the view of the Temple with Everest behind it.

I'm super excited about the show but I'm sad about what will have to be altered to accommodate it.

I was expecting the show to be ready a little earlier. But we'll see. We have to wait for the official announcement.

I just wonder what kind of entertainment they plan to offer in the meantime. Without Jammin' Jungle Parade and no night-time show any time soon, AK will feel even emptier until 2016/2017.

Sounds really long to me. Unless there were no plans for it at all until they announced it.

I think ROL will be at "capacity" every night with a lot of Guests turned away.

I just don't see how they can "create" enough viewing area in such a relatively small space.

I would say 2 years minimum... It could very well take longer. The technology in these shows is very complex and there is a lot of infrastructure work (construction) that will need to be installed prior to and alongside the technology.

Having worked in a zoo, I think it's kind of silly to do a night show with animals that may get irritated with such a thing so close, even if they can't see it. Though I'm sure Disney will take that into account, I hope they have zookeepers in with the animals the first week it goes on to monitor them.

I also think I start singing that brother bear transformation song atop the mountain every time I see the concept artwork for it. I intend to go back in 2017 so maybe I'll see what's up with it then if it's out by then.

Animal Kingdom is gonna be a happening place with this show and Avatar!:hyper:

The show will most likely not contain any pyrotechnics, so the only sound will be from the fountains and the sound track. When World of Color went in at Disney's California Adventure, the SPL decibels had to be restricted, as the park is in a residential neighborhood. There is plenty that can be done to limit the noise and I'm sure Disney has this all planned out and under control.

The water area is actually larger than Paradise Bay at California Adventure where the World of Color Show is currently running and it has capacity for 4000 spectators. There are several spots available where viewing areas could be constructed.

I hope this is as good as World of Color, I don't expect it to be as extravagant, but I'm looking forward to it.

I still think two years is a long time to put in a light show, considering they built all of Magic Kingdom in three or four. Oh well, that's fine. Just not going to get excited for it until it's a bit closer I guess :)

I was thinking in terms of F! crowds (9,500),but maybe the demand will not be that high.:)

But they weren't working around guests and an open park. Plus there are many more inspections, etc that they need to go through.
